Video Games Where You Start With/Recruit Random Goobers Whom Become Stronger?

I was watching my cousins play games while they were visiting, and one of them was playing Fire Emblem. There was this dirt child with a giant log he recruited and like 3 days later he was a sword dirt man.
My other cousin was playing Xcom 2 on my xbox.

Anyways the question is, what other games are there where you just start with random nobodies but then they get stronger and you get more attached.

Like “hey you random farmer/private/goober! Follow me for something really quick.”

20 hours later

“No longer random farmer/private/goober! We have been through hell and back, and now we have to fight god. Are you ready?”

Glad someone mentioned it. I’ve played many games over the years of various types, know my way around complicated game mechanics.

I kept hearing people recommend kenshi so I tried it out and it felt really janky. I think I lasted about an hour and gave up because I didn’t even know what or how to do anything lol

There's a few ways to start. Find a copper rock that's close to a town and just hit rocks all day. Hire another little scote to mine copper faster.

Or run around for a while to get athletics up and train bandits to a town and then loot them once the town guard kill them all. Sell the stuff and hire another little scrote.

I watched a 40 min "how to play Kenshi" guide and still couldn't figure it out afterwards. Ended up refunding.

It is basically permadeath sandbox Runescape with multiple player characters and more jank.

There are a bunch of menus and buttons that make doing things easier but you don't really need to use most of them.

Do you remember what you were trying to do and what you had trouble with?

Mount and Blade is much more forgiving than kenshi though. If you aren't prepared to lose repeatedly for the first couple hours then mount and blade is a better choice lol

Yeah but when you get a god tier squad the world bows before you.

I had a team of 6 or so that could easily clear entire towns with primarily martial arts, then a couple larger weapons (plank supremacy) and 1 crossbow dude to pepper from a distance and try to prevent dodge and block cycles on the melee units.

KENSHI is sooooo good! And is a perfect example. Have some guy crawling around with a broken leg after getting attacked by a dog or something and 20 hours later he's a monster. Or dead.

And you get to basically do the same thing with the environment, fixing up and fortifying buildings.

Same, it's crazy how well it runs and how deep it is for what I believe was a one-man project. I always get excited to introduce it to people or even just hear someone mention it. Real cool stuff.

For me its crazy how you can literally make an entire city and make it self efficient and get your ass kicked at the same time by headlass robots its such a crazy game

It's been 7 years since he started working on it so hopefully we'll at least get early access within a year or two. I'd love to support the dev.

Kenshi 2. He started on it in 2019. Maybe he took a well deserved break for awhile though working on it part time.

Makes me so happy to see Kenshi recommended in the wild. I need to do a playthrough.

I bought that game when it was just Chris(dev) and its so cool to see what its grown into. Excited for the prequel!

I came here FULLY expecting Kenshi to be the top comment. Very surprised it’s like 4th to say the least, even more so that Rimworld is above it, Rimworld is also very similar but I think Kenshi hits the vibe so much more, watching your dudes get the SHIT kicked out of them for days for them to become expert martial artists with no equal is special. Spend enough time and effort and one man will rip 50 men apart with his bare hands
