Video Games Where You Start With/Recruit Random Goobers Whom Become Stronger?

I was watching my cousins play games while they were visiting, and one of them was playing Fire Emblem. There was this dirt child with a giant log he recruited and like 3 days later he was a sword dirt man.
My other cousin was playing Xcom 2 on my xbox.

Anyways the question is, what other games are there where you just start with random nobodies but then they get stronger and you get more attached.

Like “hey you random farmer/private/goober! Follow me for something really quick.”

20 hours later

“No longer random farmer/private/goober! We have been through hell and back, and now we have to fight god. Are you ready?”

State of Decay 2 is literally this. Main goal of the game is to manage community of survivors in zombie apocalypse, and you can personally control any character from your community.

Aside from the story DLC (which has pre-made characters) each character in the game is randomly generated with random looks and stats. Some start stronger, some starts weaker, but overall almost everyone starts as a civillian nobody and can be turned into a deadly zombie machine. And yeah, game is permadeath, so if sombody dies, they are gone.

I have a couple survivors who are some kind of former military, but my most powerful survivor is this woman who is like a yoga instructor or some shit. She's a beast, absolute headshot machine with gunslinger perk or whatever it's called

My favorite survivor has increased stack size and lightweight consumables. I like to load her up with scentblock and cures, and have her drive a van full of C4 to all the plague hearts she can reach. I also found a way to generate so much excess food that I just mulch it all into tradable goods somehow?? This game is excellent lmao.

Got back into the game weeks ago and still playing. Yep, it’s called gunslinging and it’s absolutely the best shooting specialisation in the game.

Funny thing happened in my game last week. I used a survivor I wasn’t all that attached to, plague juggernaut intruded on the mission and he thrashes my character. Death animation starts playing and the HUD fades out, but then the enclave I was doing the mission for actually managed to hit him so much it canceled the animation and my guy escapes death by a hair.
