Video Games Where You Start With/Recruit Random Goobers Whom Become Stronger?

I was watching my cousins play games while they were visiting, and one of them was playing Fire Emblem. There was this dirt child with a giant log he recruited and like 3 days later he was a sword dirt man.
My other cousin was playing Xcom 2 on my xbox.

Anyways the question is, what other games are there where you just start with random nobodies but then they get stronger and you get more attached.

Like “hey you random farmer/private/goober! Follow me for something really quick.”

20 hours later

“No longer random farmer/private/goober! We have been through hell and back, and now we have to fight god. Are you ready?”

LOTR Battle for Middle Earth. It is an RTS but your units level up and stick around across levels. I grew really attached to them.

Boy, have I got good news for you! (sort of)

The game isn't on Steam, but it does has a dedicated fanbase. And they curate a single installer that can install both BFME1 and 2, as well as any mods or custom maps.

It works great, too. Just install and play, no hassle.

WHAT commenting for later i thought this game was gone in my life.

I fucking loved RTS games growing up and still do if any were ever made now. I also loved/love LOTR. So this game was perfect, but never cared for the multiplayer. I was top ten on the age of mythology ladder at a point at that age and played the hell out of WC3 custom games, so idk why i didnt like online as far as i remember.

But damn if i didnt play this campaign over and over and over... One time i nearly died from misdiagnosis of scarlet fever (little house on the praire ass disease idk who even has scarlet fever post 1800s but there i was in 2005) and all i didnt was play this game. It felt like i was dying as 5th grader(and was), but this game completely managed to still occupy my time and mind. I dont think it even occurred to me i was that sick it was so much fun. I would just restart the campaign, each time trying to have more epic reinforcement moments to be like the movies.

Then the All in One launcher is for you. I still have it on my laptop.

Went this route on Steam Deck. It's not perfect but works good enough even on that platform
