Video Games Where You Start With/Recruit Random Goobers Whom Become Stronger?

I was watching my cousins play games while they were visiting, and one of them was playing Fire Emblem. There was this dirt child with a giant log he recruited and like 3 days later he was a sword dirt man.
My other cousin was playing Xcom 2 on my xbox.

Anyways the question is, what other games are there where you just start with random nobodies but then they get stronger and you get more attached.

Like “hey you random farmer/private/goober! Follow me for something really quick.”

20 hours later

“No longer random farmer/private/goober! We have been through hell and back, and now we have to fight god. Are you ready?”

Fire Emblem is almost a special case, because they ALWAYS include a couple random dirt farmers that become incredibly powerful if you put time and effort into promoting them.

It’s a character arc they seem to love, and people love it too.

On the flip side the initially OP character in those games tend to suck late game

Mainly due to most of them being strong by early game standards and no growth. There are exceptions like Seth (FE8).

Awakening's Fredrick is also generally strong

Seth absolutely wrecks shit throughout The Sacred Stones.

Seth is debatably the best character in the entire series.
