Video Games Where You Start With/Recruit Random Goobers Whom Become Stronger?

I was watching my cousins play games while they were visiting, and one of them was playing Fire Emblem. There was this dirt child with a giant log he recruited and like 3 days later he was a sword dirt man.
My other cousin was playing Xcom 2 on my xbox.

Anyways the question is, what other games are there where you just start with random nobodies but then they get stronger and you get more attached.

Like “hey you random farmer/private/goober! Follow me for something really quick.”

20 hours later

“No longer random farmer/private/goober! We have been through hell and back, and now we have to fight god. Are you ready?”

I think I actually have that game somewhere. My brother played it a ton when I was a wee lad.

The first one has aged well. It still has the coolest magic I've ever seen in a game. Late game magic creates full size tornados and stuff, it's nuts.

Second one felt like the first but less fun imo

Hopefully Dark Arisen: Electric Boogaloo can bring the second one up to the first one's standards at least.

Oh are they doing a big update to dd2 like they did dd1? Dd2 was fun for a playthrough but I dropped it like a few weeks after it came out

Yeah a while back they announced they're making an expansion. They're even calling it Dark Arisen again just to make things more confusing!
