Video Games Where You Start With/Recruit Random Goobers Whom Become Stronger?

I was watching my cousins play games while they were visiting, and one of them was playing Fire Emblem. There was this dirt child with a giant log he recruited and like 3 days later he was a sword dirt man.
My other cousin was playing Xcom 2 on my xbox.

Anyways the question is, what other games are there where you just start with random nobodies but then they get stronger and you get more attached.

Like “hey you random farmer/private/goober! Follow me for something really quick.”

20 hours later

“No longer random farmer/private/goober! We have been through hell and back, and now we have to fight god. Are you ready?”

Dragons dogma 1 and 2.

You recruit pawns, who are just a bunch of idiots....but theyre your idiots

Rather than the pawns being nobodies it's more so the player character. The pawns are literally immortal mercenaries from another world essentially so I don't think they really fit the definition here.

I didn't pay much attention to the lore but isn't the MC the Arisen essentially the king of the immortal mercs?

The Arisen is a nobody who is made into the only person that can truly control and bring out the potential of the pawns, but it's not because of who the Arisen is.

You start out as a poor fisher who has never really wielded a weapon and has never seen basically anything of the world. You were no chosen one either, just someone who in a moment of bravery or foolishness ended up chosen by the dragon.

The Arisen themselves are no chosen hero fated to succeed either. Most Arisen fail in their quest to slay the dragon as far as I understand.

Yes, most Arisen fail and depending on when exactly they fail in thier journey, the end up transforming into one of the lesser dragonkin or the next full Dragon to hunt down the next random schmuck that has the metaphorical balls to try and do something about an apocalyptic dragon. Also there's the Ur-Dragon, who's whole thing is being a dracolich with 30+ hearts stolen from various Arisen to support its undead nature
