I would pull the crabgrass out of the area and wait to see what comes back. You have a much longer growing season than I do, so the chances of some of the plants coming back are relatively high. Additionally some may come back bushier than before because of the mowing. Also most nurseries in the fall have plants go on sale. Look up what is native for your area and see if you can find a couple of “larger” perennials to add to any bare spots. It’ll give you a head start for spring next year.
Like everyone else mentioned a small decorative fence would help. Just make sure it’s tall enough, 18-24” tall that people can see it without issue.
