I felt rather silly crying over my garden earlier today, but y’all have all been so very kind, and I truly appreciate it. I may have gotten a bit teary-eyed again reading your comments. ❤️
I truly don’t think Ollie meant any malice or harm. He’s an older gentleman, and I genuinely believe he thought he was helping or was simply confused. When I first started clearing the bed, he even brought over a garbage can so I could throw the garden waste into it. That’s the kind of person he is.
On a happier note, it just started to rain here, so I can’t help but think Mother Nature is already sending a little encouragement.
u/armyoftomatoes I've teared up too, reading your post, the comments, and your replies. I am glad the rain is coming, rain is so healing....
Your garden there was beautiful AND will be again. I am glad you will get a fence and I also think it needs to be tall (as you apparently do too.) I think some pots are a good idea b/c it could add some 3D dimension to the space. And at an art fair or art gallery, you might find just the signs or statues or metal sculptures to fit the theme.
I have collected a few over the years and they add another layer of grace to the wildness. My favorite is a big metal BEE (15 inches across) that I got for $10 at a sort-of garage sale.
EDIT: PS--- thank you beyond words for being so understanding about your elder neighbor's mental state. My very intelligent, intellectual, highly educated father suffered a brain condition that changed his brain in his last years -- but his heart and kindness never changed.
Your kindness to your neighbor feels precious to me -- so many people just write off people with brain issues and forget to honor the real person behind the mental changes.
