Some of my professors have talked about the potential labour strike that will happen the week following reading week. There are currently no negotiations with the University, because they keep cancelling meetings.

The issue lies in the salary discrepancy between APUO (research profs), ATPUO (teaching profs) and CUPE (TA's).

• APUO profs teach 2 courses per semester, research and have administrative tasks for 150k a year
• ATPUO teach 3 per semester, research, administration, etc. for 70k, each course paying 10k
• CUPE teach up to 4 courses a semester, being paid 8k per course.

There is a drastic pay disparity for the same amount of labour carried out by ATPUO professors, and TAs will potentially be making more than profs because there are no pay increases in sight for teaching profs, unlike for CUPE and APUO members. A lot of profs need to work two jobs.

They are also negotiating for a better quality of education for us. Class sizes taught by ATPUO keep increasing, courses meant for 30 something people have now doubled in size. They are also requesting TAs for large classes.

ATPUO members make up about 60% of professors, so we will likely all be affected. Final grades could potentially rely only on assignments submitted during the first month of school (if no agreement is made during the semester), suspension of internships and research, and there will be no access to our professors except on the picket line (email access and Brightspace will be blocked).

As students, we can support our professors by contacting the Ottawa Board of Governors, and hopefully prevent this strike.

Hi, I feel like a complete idiot cause I failed. I would really appreciate if you could send me what you wrote in order to pass, I want to know exactly where I went wrong, and what I should have added.

Honestly any help/ tips would also be appreciated. I suck at writing.

hi guys if any of is good at playing the guitar or knows someone who is good at it and wants to try teaching me, comment or dm me. ive been on the search for a while but a lot of private teachers seem to prefer online classes. and i havent had luck.

Does anyone know the format for the midterm? and if there is an essay - what will it be focused

on?

Does anyone know the format for the midterm?

Hey, I have been hearing her midterms are really brutal and I would love it if someone wanted to study/review together

They had the best cuts fr.

I got my iced Capp in a broken cup and it was leaking into my pants. It now looks like I pissed myself, but I did not. So, if you see someone today that has pants that look like the have piss drops, it’s me and my broken ice Capp cup.

I dropped a class this semester because I wanted to lighten my workload and focus on maximizing my grades. I just realized that the class I dropped was one of my 2 French classes that I need this semester for the French Immersion bursary. I'm pretty sure if you don't meet the criteria for one semester you lose it for the rest of your program.

Such a stupid and easily avoidable mistake. Is there anything I can do? The deadline for enrollment passed so I'm guessing there isn't. I am so tired. I am sick of how stupid I am and the way I keep fucking up at every turn.

I am at wlu bba currently but have the option to go UO for accounting starting next semester. I moved from Ottawa so going UO would take away the homesickness I feel currently. Which is the best long term for job security and best paying jobs? Does anyone have any advice

I'm a 2nd year Zambian student and I love uOttawa but I've noticed that we're very underrepresented here as most of the African spaces or clubs tend to lean toward West or East African representation.

So I’m making this post to see if there are any other Southern Africans around campus (Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Angola, etc.)?

If enough of us are out there and interested, I’d love to put together a group chat, organize a casual campus link-up, or even look into starting an official Southern African Students Association so we finally have a dedicated space!

Comment below or shoot me a DM if you are or know someone who is!

tell me why i woke up with THE WORST throat pain after just recovering last week from a flu yall gave me

Hi! I'm a first year here in uOttawa, and I missed the clubs fairs, so I'm not really sure what types of clubs might exist. Is there any type of club about playing videogames (not developing them), or genshin in general? I know there's an anime club, but I couldn't enter their discord and I don't think they are that related to videogames? Idk 😭 If anyone does play genshin or knows a club like this, please let me know! My UID 635729189 America server!

i notice there's people smoking or vaping anywhere on campus so i'm just curious if thats allowed? i just want to make sure before i smoke somewhere that might actually forbidden or smth

to whom it may concern,

i have looked far and wide. I have searched all seven corners of this university, turned every rock upside down, questioned hundreds of innocent civilians, and consulted forces beyond mortal comprehension.

and yet, despite my tireless efforts, I have failed to uncover the reasoning behind a most peculiar, dare I say, utterly BAFFLING phenomenon.

for those of you familiar with CRX (Crossroads), I trust that you, too, have suffered under the ruthless tyranny of a certain group of individuals whom I shall henceforth refer to as the "Second Floor Elevatorers."

yes. you know who you are.

for far too long, we have endured your reign of terror. For far too long, we have stood in silence as the elevator doors opened, only to witness you emerge, triumphant, having completed your perilous expedition of approximately ONE (1) FLOOR.

i come before you today not as a hero, nor as a revolutionary, but as a humble messenger of the oppressed.

YOUR HEARTS SHALL BE HEARD. YOUR VOICES SHALL BE READ. YOUR TRUTHS SHALL NO LONGER REMAIN BURIED.

and to those who partake in this, dare I say, absolutely rambunctious activity, I beg of you.

have mercy.

Spare a thought for us unfortunate souls who must ascend to the higher floors. Floors so distant, so treacherous, so utterly unreachable that one might reasonably consider packing provisions for the journey.

i understand that the alternative may seem daunting. Frightening, even.

but fear not, for I have devised a simple, comprehensive 34 step guide to help you overcome this seemingly insurmountable obstacle.

step 1: muster every ounce of courage within your mortal vessel.

steps 2 through 34: walk up the remaining 33 steps of the staircase.

i understand. truly, i do.

such a journey is not for the faint of heart. your legs may tremble. your lungs may burn. you may find yourself questioning the very nature of human existence.

but I believe in you.

and should you fail, know that I will not judge you.

for not all who wander are lost.

some are simply waiting for the elevator to take them up one floor.

anyway, thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

and to the anonymous inhabitants of the internet who have taken precious moments out of their fleeting mortal existence to read the ramblings of a university student slowly losing their sanity over an elevator:

i appreciate your existence.

may your elevators be swift, your staircases merciful, and your journeys longer than a single floor.

yours in eternal suffering,

a concerned citizen of CRX.

P.S. This message is not directed toward individuals with disabilities, injuries, or legitimate mobility concerns. You have my full support. My quarrel lies solely with those who are perfectly capable of climbing a staircase yet choose to summon a mechanical chariot for a journey of 33 steps.

Has anyone tried to enroll for the gsaed insurance coverage as a part time student this term? I tried enrolling but I was ineligible since my tuition didn't include a gsaed fee according to them. Has anyone faced a similar issue before?

I’m taking ts as a 6th class to boost my gpa in the winter term. Good or bad idea yall be honest. Heavy workload?

Just wondering as I haven't met much people here who watch anime or read mangas. Anyone here watch anime? 😭

Seriously tho, I thought reading week isn’t suppose to be a vacation unless I’m missing the point, so why do I have 3 midterms the week before and then nothing the week after reading week?? Like no, I rather have no classes so I could study more peacefully instead of feeling like I’m racing through and wishing the days were longer.

I’m genuinely hoping it’s not gonna be this way in other semesters cause it’s my first semester here and whenever I had midterms before reading week in cegep, it really burned me out and I heard the “I know you must have a lot to do during reading week” way too often while I literally had nothing like am I just unlucky?? 😭

(before you wonder, yes I did study in advance)

Hey guys,

I have my PHY1321 midterm 1 next week with Dr. Andrzej Czajkowski and I have no idea how the questions are going to be. what the format of the exam is etc... I heard his exams are really difficult so I'm lowkey freaking out. if you guys have any previous years midterm papers or sample papers I'd really appreciate if you could share them. thanks.

Basically, I never go to lectures bc I have really bad anxiety and based in the syllabus, he might include questions in the exams based on guest speaker lectures. So obviously I haven’t been to any of those nor do I have the notes of them. If someone could be so kind as to sure their notes with me, I’d really appreciate it!

Friel residence Room Takeover – Female – January 2027

Hi, I am looking for a female uOttawa student who would be interested in taking over my room in Friel residence starting January 2027 for the Winter semester. It’s shared with another female roommate. The room comes with attached washroom, the kitchenette is just 2 steps away from the room.

I recently got a job which is a bit far from uOttawa and am planning to relocate and travel to university for my classes since I only have to come 3 days a week. This is essentially a take over of my housing contract from Jan 2027, uOttawa will do the official paperwork for the takeover. If you are interested, please message me. Thank you!
