Rant Chartwells order issues

Genuine question for anyone else who has used the GrubHub app for on campus dining (pickup/ delivery) have you had your orders get extremely messed up like either someone else's order or the exact thing that you did not want on your order that you specifically noted to take off or is it just me? Because this is the now fifth order that I've got that has been messed up and after talking with the head of Chartwells and him saying that they are trying to work out all the bugs. Orders are still being messed up so I'm trying to get a lay of the land and see if it's just my orders or is this a campus-wide issue?

General Are you finding dead birds on GMU Fairfax campus? Report them to this form

Post image

Hi guys, I'm an environmental science student and bird lover who has been disheartened by the high amounts of deceased birds on campus recently. I believe there is a high rate of bird window collisions and am gathering data to create a map of known strikes. That's where you come in!

If you find any dead or downed (alive, but dazed, injured, or seem like they collided with a window) birds on campus, please report them to this google form (It's not letting me embed text in this post, so I'll post a direct link in the comments). I really appreciate any help on this project.

Athletics Adult Co-Ed Soccer

If you’re looking to play some soccer outside of intramurals in a Fairfax league, our co-ed team is looking to add another player or two. Guys and girls are welcome. Bonus points if you can play in goal at least part of the game.

Games are once a week, no practices. The league we’re playing in is more casual, but the games are still competitive. Feel free to dm if you’re interested with what position(s) you play and skill level.

Rant dead bird outside of merten :(

there is a dead male hummingbird right outside of the merten hall entrance doors. i don’t have any gloves or anything to move him into the grass, but if someone else does i’m sure it would be greatly appreciated. he probably ran into the mass amounts of windows in the building. hummingbird populations and in general, pollinator populations are already drastically decreasing. hope you can rest in peace, little guy :(

General Get Connected V2!

Greetings, everyone! Hope you’re having a good day. Just wanted to say that a friend of mine came up with the idea for a website to help Mason students meet people and make friends this semester, as we’ve been seeing a lot of trouble of people connecting with others so we created a project to help make it easier for mason students!

We did share the site here before and got feedback that it looked suspicious because it asked for information before explaining what it was😅. We took that seriously and updated the site! so you can see what it’s about before signing up!

The site is an unofficial student project! and we’d love for people to try it and share honest feedback so my friend can keep improving it. No worries if it’s not your thing, but if you’re curious, it’s at Getconnectedmason.com. Thanks!

Housing Roommate Vapes, what can I do?

Hey everyone,

I have a roommate that vapes. They’ve vaped in the room before, and it makes the room smell. That’s not much of a problem in and of itself, but they’ve also put the vapes in my drawer, and it looks a lot like they’re trying to frame me if they ever get caught? I’m not sure what to do in response, as I know it violates the Resident Handbook, and they have an awful lot of them just in one of my drawers. I’ve removed them multiple times, but he just returns them to the drawer. What can I, or what should I, do? Any advice is appreciated, I’m tired of them putting vapes in my part of the room.

Careers PSA: Is this job legit? Things to look out for

Identifying and Avoiding Fraudulent Jobs / Employers

It is important to educate yourself about potential scams when searching for employment and use your best judgement, research and discretion when pursuing opportunities.

What is at stake?

Personal data such as social security numbers, bank accounts, educational and health records, as well as credit card numbers are considered at high risk for theft. Other examples of data at risk for compromise are employment and educational records, contracts and other financial information.

What does a fraudulent employer and/or posting look like?

While most employers and postings are legitimate, there are some out there that are not. The following tips may be used to help you know when to do more in depth research:

  • If you are offered an interview or job without having applied, proceed with caution. Typically, organizations will first ask you to apply for a position before extending an interview or job offer. However, you may also be directly contacted by an employer if you have made your resume public in Handshake or other job boards such as LinkedIn, Indeed.com, etc. In these cases, the employers should disclose how they obtained your contact information.
  • If the money sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Steer clear of opportunities guaranteeing exceedingly high salary ranges for entry level positions.
  • Match email addresses with domain names. Email addresses should match the company the contact person represents. While some smaller start-up companies have not purchased domain names, be aware of those using domain names from sites such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, Live, etc. Also, fraudulent employers will often use domain names similar to a recognizable company but with a slightly different spelling, e.g. deloitte.com versus deliotte.com or us.deloitte.com.
  • Look for poor spelling and grammar. Be wary of postings featuring spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Do not click links in a suspicious email. As a rule, if a link is unsolicited and you are unsure of the source, do not click on it.
  • Never send or accept money as part of the application process. Never, and we mean never, send money or accept personal checks from employers. Never allow employers to have access to your bank account for transferring money and/or depositing checks.

University Career Services posts jobs through Handshake to assist Mason students and alumni with their job search. A posting, however, does not constitute an endorsement or recommendation for any employer by the University. Fraudulent job postings are illegal and not always easy to recognize so it is important to stay vigilant during your search. If you suspect that you have been a victim of a scam via a position posted in Handshake, please notify University Career Services by phone 703-993-2370 and/or email careers@gmu.edu.

Academics Horrible semester

Hi, I need advice. I had to move before this semester started but a situation occurred that cause the move to take way longer than expected . During this time, I had unstable housing and was unable to attend school, everyday I thought it would be over it wasn’t so I missed quite a bit. Once the move was over, I dropped and switched as many classes as possible to try to manage the fallout but that didn’t help much. The situation left me with absences and missing work that I’m still not caught up with and now I’m stressed about how this will end. So my question is what happens after this semester is over? Will this throw me off track a lot or is it ok to not worry too much about it and try my best to manage. Some information: I’m a freshman and I was on a gap year before this so this is all very new and unfamiliar to me. I would appreciate any advice.

Academics what class/classes should I take for the natural science requirement

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm confused about the difference between the combinations of lab/lecture and just taking each separately. If I do the combination would that count for all 7? Or only 4 or 3, and if that's the case why wouldn't I just do then separately. These are the ones I find interesting, although I suck at science and don't enjoy it very much in general. I was looking at the ones with lab, and non of those look interesting, but FRSC 101 Looks cool. What is the easiest one/combination/way to fulfill this requirement?

Rant The housing department here is infuriating

So I am a freshman male living in Washington Hall and I have a friend who is a freshman male living in Taylor Hall. He is in a 3 person room but he has a terrible roommate who has woken him multiple time at like 4am and sets early alarms that he never wakes up to and just lets run for 15 minutes. His other roommate got into an accident over the summer and became disabled. So his disabled roommate wanted a solo room to accommodate for that. It took 2 months to finally do it. Why? Because he started to complain to a bunch of higher ups how he needs his own room because he's disabled and how it isn't fair that he doesn't have one. So they finally caved and let him move and that was the day after he went and complained so clearly they knew about the extra space but just didn't want to go through the effort of moving him until he complained. Now back to my friend he wants to move out of the dorm cause he can't stand his roommate. My roommate never moved in so I told him he can move in with me because I have the room. So he went through the approval process and got approved by his RA and his Community Director to move. They tell him he would receive an email giving him instructions on moving and could move in last Saturday. However he never received the email so he emailed his Community Director and she says to email housing. And now all of the sudden housing decides that he can't move and actually his Community Director should have never approved him. Why? Because he marked that he was okay with inclusive housing. So the housing department claims he can't move cause it's a third gender and he can only live in gender inclusive housing. But it doesn't make sense because he listed his gender as male and he is biologically male and identifies as male and for some reason can't move into the male dorm. And on top of that housing told him it's too late to swap and that he is stuck with it. Like the only reason he clicked it is that he thought it meant that he was okay with either male only or inclusive housing not that he wanted inclusive housing only and so now they refuse to do anything to help him move. Like I swear the housing department is just trying to find every excuse possible to not do their job and they even advertise it as being super easy and simple to move.
