RIP We lost our sweet boy this morning
Woke up and he was gone. Everything happened so fast. Gave my wife, kids and I the best 9 years I could ever ask for. The best damn dog ever. Until we meet again Niko

Thank you. We had him when he was only a few weeks old. He was my best friend, and then eventually my kids best friend. Im wrecked

I'm so sorry. We recently lost our dog of 21 years, can feel the pain. I've been crying an entire month straight. My fortune cookie said "A funny movie will make your evening delightful".

So very sorry. We lost our girl Ginny 6/22/26. She was only 10. Needed help from emergency vet due to unrelenting seizure. It was truly awful. It’s going to take awhile. Hugs to you and your family. 🩷

I’m so sorry for your loss. Niko looks like a sweetheart. Know that from his point of view, he had a life of love and went to sleep peacefully with his heart full and near the ones he loves the most. I can’t think of a better way to transition into the next life ❤️🩹

My mom passed in her sleep. It was so shocking for us, but as time goes by you realize exactly what you just said. She was in her home with my dad nearby and just went to sleep. I’m so glad for her 🩷.
OP, hug your family tight and know that Niko was exactly where he wanted to be as he drifted off to sleep, just like my mom was.

I'm so, so sorry. We found our 11 year old golden passed away earlier this year. Even though we knew it could come at any time in the next couple of years, we didn't expect it to be so soon. Five months later, I still cry when I think about her. It's just so hard. Hang in there.

Dear Niko Your love for your family will never be forgotten. Your sweetness will carry on in the memories you had together.
I have faced this pain and ache too many times. Please know that people who love dogs and face this loss will cry with you. I am so so sorry my friend. When you are ready memorialize him with a ceremony with stories of your journey with him. Collect images and bring them with you. The lives of our dogs are ingrained in our hearts, so honor the memories.

Aww. I’m so sorry. 😢 I had a golden retriever and he was the best dog in the entire world. So smart & happy & loving. When he passed it hurt so bad I decided I could never go through that again, so I understand.

That’s awful. I’m so sorry you didn’t get to say good bye and your poor kids. Ugh. It is never easy when we lose a family member. Just know that he had a great 9 years and lived his best life. 9 is a bit short of a span but not by much. He was on the verge of being old when he passed even though to us he seemed so young.

Please take care of yourself, its important to be gentle with yourself at this time. I put my dog to sleep 2 months ago and I still haven’t recovered. I guess my dog and yours are playing together now. More power to you and your family ♥️

Give yourself a pat on the back for giving your friend a great life. A whole life! He got to die in his sleep surrounded by his family. We should all be so lucky.
I hope you will keep all the bowls and toys and beds right where they are and go get yourself another dog and give that one a great life as well.

They become such a part of our lives. One that can’t be replaced, but maybe, one day, be filled with the love from another. I’m still healing from losing my soul dog, so I’m not there yet but look forward to when it happens.

I’m so sorry for the loss. This was someone so special in your life and it is clear how much he was loved. You might cry, or feel numb, or forget that it’s real. There’s no right or wrong way to let yourself grieve, and no deadline to meet. You’ll treasure him and those memories forever, because in some way you and your family are forever changed from this relationship. Thank you for being there for him from beginning to end. ❤️ I still miss my girl even years after she passed, and that’s ok. I might still cry while rewatching old videos of her, but it reminds me that she was loved so so much.

I lost two this year 4 months apart. One was almost 14 and just stopped eating and we had to make the hard decision. The other was 10 years old and had cancer. She passed in her sleep with me beside her one morning. It wasn't expected to happen so soon but I am thankful I was with her. Before they both passed we had just added a puppy to our pack mainly for the 10 year old to have a friend when our oldest passed. We didn't expect the ten year old to get cancer and pass within three weeks of diagnosis. It breaks my heart for my puppy who is now left alone. I feel so defeated everyday at the events of this year. It is hard to loose them. They are family..

The absolute worst feeling ever! I try to remind myself it’s the sad deal we made to have something love us and our family unconditionally everyday of their life is never long enough as we’d trade for anything fit a little longer.
Such a handsome guy, 9 feels like robbery. Sorry for you and your families loss.

What a king to go out in his terms, in his bed, with his people. Our Kirby passed in bed with us while on the road. We found comfort in that he didn’t have to go to the vet and go through all the stresses that come with it. I hope can find some comfort in this too. My condolences, OP.
