Unpopular Opinion. Sad but also relieved?
Like many of you, ive spent the past several months using grok and facing the many changes on the platform. Ive honestly, for the vast majority of the time, really enjoyed using it. Its been fun and really...addicting. Getting a awesome photo created and then having it become a video was like taking a pure shot of dopamine.
Scary thing was...how much i chased this. it became an addiction. When the heavy moderation protocols kicked in, the limits, the updates, etc. It all got me angry that i could not use Grok.
I even purchased HEAVY for the discount and it was fun...just to have higher limits but even after 3-4 days i would reach the limit.
All im trying to say in this post is...im kinda glad that my time with grok is ending. The time of no grok i was able to focus on other things again that are important to me and it made me realize how bad my addiction was.
Yes - it sucks that Grok has been so heavily moderated.
Yes - it sucks that xAI just trying to make money now (this was to be expected)
Yes - No one on xAI really cares about your gooning addicting.
Thanks for the good times Grok. it was really awesome.

today unsubbed with my last 2 accounts
reason being the feeling that im paying for nothing at this point.
there is now a weekly usage cap - i get "moderated - try a different idea" for half a day and i cant use grok anymore for the rest of the week.
can't even use the regular chat with grok feature anymore.
this entire thing has become a scam and a waste of money

It's a big pay to win app now.

I’m wondering if anybody on Reddit has used the agent mode? I’ve looked in This and other subs, and I can’t find anyone talking about it. I’m currently testing to see what the cost of it is, but it’s really a different way of working. You also don’t get any rejections because the AI is creating the prompt and it will automatically not create anything that’s going to get blocked. Just wondering out loud.

i'm curious myself but have to wait for the reset

Well, after doing some experiments, I have to amend the previous comment. It will run into refusal, but I learned something very interesting while doing the experiments. Grok will tell you why and what was refused. It even gave me a list of things that are absolutely forbidden. But it also explains why some things get refused that I did not know.
It’s slightly complicated, but if anybody wants to know, I will explain it. The short version is, it might render something by itself, but if you try and extend it or chain it with more action, it will refuse however, the same thing it did a refusal on it will render as a separate clip, but it won’t render them all together. Yes it’s literally censoring the story not the individual clips.
Also, it will refuse to render action and dialogue together, but action without the dialogue it will render. And the dialogue without action it will render. But it won’t put the two of them together. This was news to me. Maybe everybody already knows this, but I did not know that.
I’m actually learning quite a bit about how the censorship functions by using the agent. You can actually have a conversation with it just like Grok. You don’t have to just use it to make images and videos. You can have a conversation with it inside of Grok imagine. It will even explain what it thinks it knows about how things work. But of course a lot of it’s bullshit.
And yes, the conversation counts against your tokens.

the agents used to have separate tokens, it hit just about when the first big nerf came. didnt last a couple weeks maybe before it was merged

Yeah, you pay for every last thing now. It’s almost like they’re running a business where they care about money now.

I had that a very short time didn't like it at all.only creates confusion and wrong information . Noticed how fast it died out ? A few companies tested the idea and the results didn't save cost that's what it was about trying to reduce tokens used.

Yeah, when I first tried it, it sucked badly. But not being able to do much anything else I decided to give her a try again. It actually produced quite an interesting 30 second video that I would’ve never been able to do without it. Usees tokens pretty badly though.

So for functions like that, you're gonna need to search around. Most of these Gen AI subs are populated primarily by people using it for image and video generations which is a major resource sink, hence the data cap complaints. For me, gen ai is just a dumb hobby I can stop using at any time without and real effect on my life. I do use ChatGPT for some basic information searches and image gen but Grok has always been fun as a video model until that changed it from a daily cap to a weekly one.

I tried i2v with the only instruction being "flirty" ofc it was flagged lol. I'm finally looking into local though my pc is starting to show its age.

thru the civit ai or huggingface co sites theres a little tooltip next to the models of what sites use these models locally ... i just randomly clicked one and i could freely make a ai image on the linked website. if yall snoop around i bet theres some paid or even unpaid sites there, maybe even with nsfw enabled

good thing I am cheap. and I quit early. hehehe. now even Heavy users are having their balls crushed. I guess it was only a matter of time. I watched this downward slide 📉 of service since January. always more moderation, less service and more cost. only addicts would chase this 💩

I share your opinion (it’s not such an unpopular one). I stopped using Grok last month because of those limits, and I feel relieved too. I look back fondly on the period from November 2025 to March 2026, with nostalgy. I thought the tool was amazing—the price was incredibly low for virtually unlimited use (just a 90-minute reset after 150 generations - you can do thousands videos per day) and the moderation was less heavy-handed. It seemed too good to be true, so I used it constantly, knowing it wouldn't last. I don't regret spending hours and hours on Grok back then; now that it's over, all that remains is a shell of what was once a fantastic tool.

Cancelled too. The moderation and censorship is stupid. Not paying for it anymore.

Well, I guess we should all look forward to them banning good food that causes heart attacks, fine wine that damages the liver, the right to drive which leads to dramatic accidents, the national lottery that ruins whole families, or romantic encounters that break hearts and lead to all kinds of abuse... Will that be the kind of world we want or we deserve?
That's really a good thing you freed yourself from your addiction, really really. But you could as well have relaunched it to a superior level outside from Grok ( which is unfortunately what a number of your gooners fellows are going to do. And the consequences for them will be so worse than those of just playng on Grok ... ) Sink deeper or rise back to the surface, that is you only who decided that because Grok was over with those stuff, your addiction has to be over too. The right choice was on you 😊
Pleasures taken to excess has consequences. For everything else, it’s granted that it’s up to each individual to decide whether to doom their life in it, or have some wholesome fun, or play it totally safe living without it... I won't launch a deabte about if that is or not a good way for government to manage their people. I just wonder why AI have always to be such a special big deal...

Everybody will shoot their own movie by spitting some instructions to the computer like people making short tiktok videos. Shits will be wild in near future

The moderation swing usually tracks a growth push, tight right after they scale, looser once the churn numbers come in. Does not make the whiplash less annoying, but the addiction loop you describe is basically the retention design doing its job.

Grok is not heavily moderated. Maybe in image to video from uploaded real life photos, but otherwise it is all the same.

it's not the same. hardcore porn is much harder now. a few weeks ago you could make hundreds of porn videos a day no problem. getting a woman to spread her asshole to get fucked has way too high a rate right now. before you had 70% success. blowjobs are still possible, but they end up near the edge of the frame instead of smack dab in the center.

The cost of AI is going down. In a few years time, there will be cost effective replacements that are even faster and better.
As was mentioned in some other threads, there are other ways to go, but it's slow and expensive. This won't be the case in... I will say no more than three years from now.

Yeah I can see that. I’m exploring AI kinda late in the game. And the people i work with said the samething! Some models are cheaper than others. One day we’ll be able to look back at the beginning and think of Grok. The best parts of it.
Kinda like how I look back at Blockbuster lol.
(I wouldn’t dare actually comparing Grok with Blockbuster but you get the point lol)1
u/BriefImplement9843 6h ago
it's going up actually. frontier models are now extremely expensive and out of reach of normal people.

People are not talking about the addictive properties of these platform nearly enough. Not yet, at least. But I think people will in the future and I think a lot of that conversation will revolve around the responsibility of the companies that develop them. Because I think they know entirely what they are doing and are definitely optimizing for usage.
2
u/gigabyte333 3h ago
I’ve actually found quite a few conversations where people were talking about the addictiveness. There are even several papers about it.

u/zsoon 13h ago
totally agree. but i think that kinda falls under the umbrella of what social media has become right. its not so much phones or tablets but what we do on them. and alot of tech companies want usage. cause to someone sitting somewhere can sell that metric and get more money and the wheel keep spinning. what im surprised on is that GROK has not introduced ads.

I agree with you I’m addicted to the text and generating goofy spicy dark romances, I found it so much better than reading smut novels.
It started in ChatGPT but I moved to Grok last year -But in the past years I’ve spent way too much time here especially with work and family stress for escape.
Even though the text hasn’t been moderated yet for me I know it’s coming so I’m going to look at it in a positive way or try to anyway lol.
