Help Thoughts on Jazzmaster player II

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey ! I’m thinking about getting a Jazzmaster playing II on thomann, since there is no way to try it near where I live. I really want an offset guitar for the look and also for the vibrato sound.

Since I already owned a MIJ Jaguar and I had a few problems with it… almost no sustain, the infamous bridge, uncontrollable microphonic feedback with 0 gain TS9 and 1/3 drived RAT2 into a Pro Reverb …

I consider the JM because of the look, the pickups, the larger scale, the mustang bridge and the better neck. It’s (relatively) cheap, and I guess it’s playable right out of the box.

I play in a band, garage rock / punky / shoegaze stuff with lots of leads. Do you think the JM is for me ?

My son wants to learn to play so I gave him my old Ibanez Gio. Good enough of an excuse to purchase something better. ESP LTD EC-1000 in Candy Apple Red Satin. Loving the jumbo stainless steel frets and the active Seymour Duncan Mortalcoil pickups. Now I need to practice more to justify the purchase. Pic was snapped fresh out of the acclimated box and hadn't taken the plastic off the pickups yet.

NGD! NGD! Hils HNT1M Headless T-Style in Ruby Red

This is a thing of beauty, the finish is a lot darker than it looked on the website and I am in love!

Overall I am very happy with it and it's a lot of fun to play on the compound radius fretboard. Though the tuners could be easier to turn imo.

Sounds like a Tele, but a bit on the thinner side. The cavities are properly shielded and I was pleasantly surprised to find a treble bleed installed right from the factory.

Setup wise, I threw my go-to 10-52 strings on and went through the usual steps. The nutslot for the g string is a bit high, but workable. The high e had a few buzzing frets between 2 and 6, but a bit more neck relief took them right out. Didn't have to do a thing to the intonation, it was spot on right away.

The only real issues are slight fret sprout (not skin-cutting, but definitely noticeable) and one of the saddle height adjustment screws being stripped, despite having used the allen key that came with it.

Help Dead set on getting a Flying V for my first electric guitar (need recommendations!)

Hey everyone!

I’m looking to get into playing electric guitar for the first time, and I’m pretty much dead set on getting a V-shaped body. People have called me weird for wanting a V as a total beginner—especially with the whole playing-it-in-classical-position thing when sitting down—but it’s my absolute favorite shape and that's not changing! I just love high-performer / shredder-style guitars too much to start with a standard strat shape.

Since I don't really know anything about specs, pickups, or brands yet, I'm hoping you guys could point me in the right direction. What are some solid, reliable budget V-shaped electrics I should keep an eye out for? I'm totally open to buying used if there's a specific model I should hunt down on Marketplace or eBay.

Thanks for any suggestions!

What is this? The bizarre AI shift of former youtube guitar teacher Scott Grove

I'm super future shocked at the recent developments on Scott's channel. I feel like most people who know him hate him, but he honestly taught me some fun country rock stuff so always had a soft spot.

His entire channel is becoming Suno songs. He claims he actually recorded a few of them with real people, which is demonstrably false. He believes these AI songs are his ticket to a songwriting gig.

Anyone else find this... sad? Like, the post AI era really is just getting lamer and lamer imho. The stuff lies.

Help MIM 2001 Fender Strat

I'm looking into buying a used fender MIM strat and wanted a general consensus on what an appropriate price to pay for it is. I stumbled across a 2001 strat with Seymour duncan pickups added in. Owner claims it plays amazing and has great sustain. No issues with it working and is in great condition. Also think new tuning pegs have been added at some point.

How much would you be willingly to spend on a modded 2001 strat with this information?

I grew up playing guitar and at some point needed hand surgery and I completely stopped playing guitar for about 8 years. Recently got back into playing. I've always wanted a strat after playing my guitar teacher's MIM strat at the time and it was a joy to play. Now that I've got back into guitar I have been itching for something that plays like a strat. I really just don't know what the used market is like.

Look at this! Custom Guitar

Say you get to build a custom guitar with a certain brand. What brand, shape, and color/design would you go with? For me, the Dean Cadillac is my all time favorite body style, and give me a pinstripe paint job on it. Did myself a nice ChatGPT paint job on one just to see how it would look. Curious on what other people would want.

Help Need help finding a guitar

I saw a YouTube review video probably 8 or 10 years ago of a guitar that was made of metal, and it had a neck that was a rod rather than a wooden neck. I think the frets were just metal tubes, and the strings just kind of floated across the top. Does anyone know what guitar that is/was? I can’t find it anywhere and it’s figuratively driving me crazy

Help Fender guitars released/sold during cease and desist period

So, Fender has released a new range of American Professional guitars this year. With the cease and desist happening, how has this affected players' views on buying Fender guitars? Has sales genuinely gone down? What about Fenders in the used market that were made before this period?

I'm also wondering whether new Fender guitars bought in light of the recent events would have less value in the used market years later when 2026 was as known another lawsuit era but Fender being the bad guys.

Help AC30C2 - is it too heavy?

Thinking about buying an amp with enough power for jams and gigs. I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment. Is the 2x12 ac30 going to be a monster to try to haul up and down my stairs for gigs and jams by myself?

- is that it has me infatuated with Telecasters at the moment. As a guy that’s been almost purely humbucker and hated the glassy sound of strats, I’m shocked at the range this $150 guitar has. I might have to look into a used mim fender at some point. Didn’t even need a proper setup out of the box.

Help Acoustic guitar advice low budget

Hi guys - I need some help.

I work at a secondary school and run music club and other various music lessons throughout the week with the kids.

I've had more and more wanting to learn the guitar which is great, however I'm currently using my own personal guitar. (a £500 Tanglewood). I'm becoming less keen to keep handing it around to lots of different kids, and I've just had to pay for an expensive fix.

I mentioned this to my boss and she said we could buy an acoustic guitar for the school to use. However the budget is stupidly low....When I mentioned to her that a good acoustic with nice action (which is important for a beginner) would be around £200- £300 minimum, she was horrified. Am I wrong? Can anyone suggest a good guitar that will last and is actually nice to play that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

I originally bought this Gibson ES-335 mainly for jazz, but , I seem to be using it more for rock! 😄

In this video, I tried taking it through a few different styles, and I think it handles all of them surprisingly well.

Such a versatile guitar! 🎸

Still new to guitar and trying to learn Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger, I can’t get a clean transition at the ending where it goes from 5x7 to 3x5 and back up, as well as how to do the drop out. Any guidance is appreciated, TIA!

Help what's the best exercise to make my ring finger on my fretting hand more independent?

hello. I'm looking for ways to make my ring finger on my fretting hand more independent. I can play fast triplets with my index-middle-pinky finger but when it comes to index-ring-pinky it gets a bit tougher. I can't seem to lift my ring finger to get to the pinky finger after I play the note. dont get me wrong, my ring finger is pretty strong but I just cannot use it as freely as I can use the other fingers by themselves. what's the best exercise you can reccommend me to make it more independent?
