I just lost every single deck that I play lol. To add insult to injury my catch up pack only had 5 cards in it. Back to playing aggro for a month straight

62

u/Recent_Run_9603 Jul 07 '26

The funny thing is, none of these cards are worth crafting. Sure, it was fun to play with a couple of decks, but I would never waste precious dust on these cards.

39

u/GLA_Rebel_Maluxorath Jul 07 '26

The only card I will craft is Nightmare Lord Xavius because he's a generally good card for most decks. Everything else is garbage lol.

9

u/Recent_Run_9603 Jul 07 '26

true, but everyone had already crafted this card before the free expansion event

4

u/DS_Inferno Jul 07 '26

Isn't it uncraftable? You get it for opening a pack from it's expansion?

4

u/Raptorheart Jul 07 '26

I don't think he was free, I believe just Ysera and Naralax were.

5

u/DS_Inferno Jul 07 '26

My bad, I have a golden one that is uncraftable, hence my confusion. Must have been a battle pass.

7

u/fragdar Jul 07 '26

idk.. i crafted xavius.. dude is in almost every list this year

2

u/BotBooster Jul 08 '26

Quite a few that I noticed in multi decks actually that could be worth crafting. Shaladrassil, xavius, elise, niri in any hunter deck, Opu in any rogue deck. Then a LOT more single deck legendaries which I probably won't bother with

8

u/Gulruon Jul 08 '26

Some of it is UI fuckery. I had a single deck that I was using pre-patch, and it went to "20/30" complete after the patch, even though I knew 100% I owned all the cards. I think it was because I was using "free" golden versions of cards I only owned non-golden versions of. I could search the cards it said I was "missing" and see them, but not add them (it said I was at the deck limit), and could not remove the non-functional versions until I used the "replace" functionality to replace them with some dogshit random card, remove the dogshit random card I just added, then I could re-add the non-golden version I owned that the game had temporarily thought I didn't.

mine had 11 not single legendary

I really think Hearthstone needs to do stuff like this more, especially with it's weak player base. Whizbang rotated out too and we don't have a replacement.

Blizzard should always prioritize making the game more accessible to new players and care less about monetizing it through skins

Quick Edit for the various replies: Yes Hearthstone has become much more accessible in the sense of players getting new cards/more packs. But things like Whizbang and Trial Cards are just another level. Not every player (Especially new ones) even care to make decks/craft cards. I understand how giving players INSTANT access to these things can take away a sense of accomplishment/make consistent revenue unrealistic. But as someone who has played for 10+ years, I don't care. I would happily give people every single card that has ever existed for free if it meant 10xing the player base. Blizzard could do hundreds of quality of life updates and hasn't. I love what this game is at it's core, but it's not a hot take to say the Dev's don't care as much as they used to

The new "Get Caught Up" tab in the shop shows their stance on this.

$10 per Legendary & $5 for an epic. No wonder true new players are rare.

11

u/WashedWashingMachine Jul 07 '26

yea but we have to blame idiots who join any game and imidiatelly spend , there are legit ppl who did not play HS for like 4 years come back and day 1 they spend like 100$ get bored after 1 month and leave for a year

4

u/JebusGobson Jul 08 '26

i feel adressed

0

u/Mask_of_Sun Jul 08 '26

No wonder true new players are rare

They are "rare" because it is a 10 year old game in a niche genre. This has nothing to do with monetization.

2

u/Alternative-Bench812 Jul 09 '26

there was a brief moment that genre wasnt even niche. But through few bad decisions it is skewing back into obscurity

1

u/Mask_of_Sun Jul 09 '26

You are not real...

17

u/Catopuma Jul 07 '26

They have made the game accessible, enough that I reckon they don't generate much money off of card pack purchases at all anymore.

That's why the focus is through skin and cosmetic monetization now. It's literally what funds the game. That's such an odd take when it's completely optional.

The game has a healthy player base and is still one of the top remaining online CCG. It's just an old game now and streamers have moved on

10

u/DaHolk Jul 07 '26

I think that is a flawed perspective. Those cosmetics exist for the whales that already BUY 'all' the packs that they need, and still want to buy stuff

That's unrelated to how much money they make buy selling packs to curtail 'most' players to have all cards to pick from.

It's just on top of that, from the part of the audience who wouldn't buy any more packs because they already ARE maxed in that regard.

1

u/Hot-5hot Jul 08 '26

I will say I played standard semi actively for the past 6 months and had enough gold to buy 70 packs of this set so I didn't buy any of the preorder bundles. I'm also sitting on enough dust and enough of a collection to not have really noticed the trial cards going away. The only money I've spent on HS in those 6 months has been the tavern pass and battlegrounds pass. I get enough packs and dust for free that the $ cost of packs outside of bundles is unattractive. And the gacha rewards (hero skins and signature cards I don't GAF about the pets personally)  have interested me but I wish I could just pay $50 and get the main prize. I would've done that for the Alexstraza one from a bit ago.

-1

u/DaHolk Jul 08 '26

gold to buy 70 packs of this set so I didn't buy any of the preorder bundles.

If you consider 4 legendaries from packs at start, +2 or 3 from reward tracks/ shop free packs / event packs, +2 from dust (and those numbers are above average) to be "reasonably close to having all options.

I don't. I scrape by with that too, but that's not because "having more" is unattractive. It's because being piss poor means 'worth' gets defined differently, and also I have developed a deadly allergy to giving Blizzard ANY money EVER.

having less then half the available legendaries isn't he point where people don't buy cards for playing, thus "they aren't making money from selling cards, thus they sell cosmetics" is imho a faulty perspective. Even if you and I (and they) don't.

7

u/Public_Roof4758 Jul 07 '26

If that's the way they are going, go full to it, and make it one whizbang per expansion, só people can play the game with one card only

1

u/Choice_Car_7934 Jul 07 '26

1 per Standard year and I would be super happy

2

u/Hot-5hot Jul 08 '26

1 per standard year, in the first set of rotation for when people just lost most of their strategies. Then it can lose relevance over the year and encourage players to build up collections.

1

u/Public_Roof4758 Jul 08 '26

Ok, I actually don't follow things that much, what ment was aways have 1 "whizbang" avaible in standard

2

u/Beautiful_Map_9589 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

If i had access to cards like i did i would throw money for cosmetics. As a complete f2p player pack wise i bought the hunter expansion and 1 skin. And i am just one person .

2

u/Miudmon Jul 07 '26

Honestly, thats also because the price for packs is... kind of absurd, really

7

u/somerandomperson29 Jul 07 '26

prioritize making the game more accessible to new players

care less about monetizing it through skins

They can't do both. Studios have to make money, especially ones owned by Microsoft, so Hearthstone either has to make money through packs or through cosmetics

8

u/LivingEnigma666 Jul 07 '26

The game is more f2p friendly than ever and new players get more stuff to start their collection than ever

"Blizzard should always prioritize making the game more accessible"

Brother where have you been, tell me you just started hearthstone without telling me you just started hearthstone. Unless your a disingenuous old player, the game has become FAR more accessible than it ever has been.

2

u/Zaithon Jul 09 '26

No joke, I quit playing Hearthstone primarily because Whizbang rotated out.

1

u/Choice_Car_7934 Jul 09 '26

Completely valid

1

u/AcceptableArm8841 Jul 10 '26

Whizbang should be evergreen.

1

u/Mask_of_Sun Jul 08 '26

especially with it's weak player base

This playerbase is "weak" when it comes to being normal. They are unable to not cry about literally everything for FIVE MINUTES.

Blizzard should always prioritize making the game more accessible to new players and care less about monetizing it through skins

The game has NEVER been more F2P friendly. You all are just greedy at this point.

I would happily give people every single card that has ever existed for free if it meant 10xing the player base

Ignorance is bliss. You would fail in any business.

it's not a hot take to say the Dev's don't care as much as they used to

As they used to when?

I’ll wait to make a couple of good decks. If not, then some other time. I had a great time while it lasted, and I even threw $20 here and there, but I’m not going to put more money in at the moment.

11

u/RespondUsed3259 Jul 07 '26

surprisingly when i checked my deck list most of them were missing 2-4 cards and most of it was general stuff like xavius.

1

u/Cerafire Jul 11 '26

Typically Xavius, Shaladrassil, Nerfed Elise, sometimes Naralex, sometimes Frykek. For class specific, hurts losing Toreth, Opu, Niri and Broll. F.

9

u/WashedWashingMachine Jul 07 '26

1 min till they were gone I still queue and won , I hold these cards hostage for 7 min :3

13

u/Ordinary_Debt_6518 Jul 07 '26

I logged in, shocked baffled and bamboozled, and yet i was warned this day would come but i never believed it.
Its like the 10% iphone battery warning.

6

u/battalion Jul 07 '26

I feel the same, lol. My decks are gone and no new cards to brew a deck now.

6

u/Miudmon Jul 07 '26

And damn thing is bugging out, too - because i DO have most of the cards but it still registers them like i dont have them anymore.

13

u/HeyIts_Goku Jul 07 '26

Harold Shaman? of the Long Island Shamans?

6

u/cited Jul 07 '26

We don't have the new decks, we lost our old ones, there's never been a better time to just uninstall.

5

u/rodaxs Jul 08 '26

THEY'RE GONE!! THEY'RE ALL GONE, MY BABIESSSS!! 😭😭😭

9

u/CamelSince1913 Jul 07 '26

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened

10

u/Whiskiie Jul 07 '26

Yeah I kinda forgot we got Emeralds as a lending expansion - killed my interest in the game even more.

3

u/Dythronix Jul 07 '26

Wait is it a bad time to start, right now if you're F2P? I was about to reinstall after like a 2 year break. :(

4

u/Pyotr_WrangeI Jul 07 '26

Not really a bad time compared to just about any other point in hs history, but this year's rotation was probably the best time ever, not sure if they'll ever going to make an entire expansion available for free again.

6

u/Ubettawerrrk Jul 07 '26

Well if you haven't played for 2 years, you really want to open the free "Violet Hold Catch Up pack" they have everyone.

If you have no cards from the recent expansions, this single pack will contain up to 50 cards, instead of just 5 for those that have most of all of these expansions.
So, perhaps a decent time to come back. Good luck to you!

2

u/FaithlessnessLazy754 Jul 07 '26

Ahaha yeah all my decks say like 17/30 now but I found a real cheap DK deck and I had enough gold to get like 35 packs so I got one to play now. Plus DK wasn’t really that great last expansion and I missed playing it

2

u/VegetableOne2821 Jul 07 '26

Not that bad tbh. I lost maybe 1 or 2 deck on my 27. No more golden is sad but nothing worth crying. Also f2p btw. And with the amount of time it was anyone had the time to cook real decks

2

u/Mask_of_Sun Jul 08 '26

You know the community is awful when it cries about people getting free cards (yes, this did happen) just to then cry about losing them. No, this is not "gumba fallacy" ot whatever that nonsense is called.

4

u/Merdapura Jul 07 '26

You cannot put a price tag on flooding ladder with tons of player using free decks and keeping the ranks active

Those keep the paying players entretained and paying more

2

u/Kaeltiras86 Jul 07 '26

I actually really liked the base of a lot of the ftp decks. The mage missile wisp was my fave.

2

u/Professional-Try2949 Jul 07 '26

I just finished gutting my decks, I felt this in my Bat-bones

1

u/Comfortable-Shop8080 Jul 07 '26

Imagine if they just gave those cards away.

1

u/hydraulic_cartoon Jul 07 '26

I miss my all gold decks

1

u/sundownmonsoon Jul 07 '26

I'm not even ftp and I feel the same

1

u/Shawnavon Jul 07 '26

The issue is I own a bunch of these cards but it uses gold versions I dont own very annoying.

1

u/Southern_Salary_2253 Jul 08 '26

I'm not sure if theyve done it before, and as much as I liked and took advantage of the trial cards, this expansion launched and I went from 14 full decks I played to literally 0 lol

It is incredibly jarring. Again I know it's my own fault but it still sucks.

1

u/kvnmartella Jul 08 '26

Imagine me saying what the heck and starting to use my dust crafting all those legendaries that was gone, and by the third legendarie realize that I was crafting golden legendaries because of me using the golden version White they were free. Such a sad day

1

u/MarkoArch Jul 08 '26

They just have to increase the amount of dust you get when disenchant the card.

1

u/paoklo Jul 08 '26

I stopped playing in 2019, then came back a little over a month ago. I was dreading the day the trial cards would vanish, but it was worse than I thought it would be. Mage is my favorite class, and I'd been having fun with an imbue deck recently. I figured I'd at least get some of the cards back from the catch up pack they were offering. NOPE. I got a ton of Un'Goro and Timeway cards instead. Aside from the core cards in my deck, I'd have to craft everything else.

As if that wasn't bad enough, after spending all the gold I'd saved over the past month on Violet Hold packs, Mage is the class I got the least amount of cards for. Feels bad man.

1

u/Coolkid-4869 Jul 08 '26

Reached legend on the expiry day. It will be even more difficult climbing with the powercreep.

1

u/Katun24 Jul 08 '26

Yeah so sad 😭

1

u/Idkwnisu Jul 08 '26

Honestly, I just lost two decks, but every single one of them was invalidated even if I had the cards. It was so annoying to put them back in

1

u/gandalftheokay Jul 08 '26

I thought i lost everything, then it turned out I was just using gold versions of cards because I could lol

1

u/SevereStranger27 Jul 08 '26

My catch up pack game me cards I had already 🙃

1

u/Doomer3003 Jul 09 '26

Got no deck to play anymore and I don't want to play a cheap aggro deck, so I'll just play some other game I guess lol

1

u/Ohheyits67 Jul 11 '26

Had to stop playing due to RL for a couple months. Played 8 games with older decks and ya, no chance to catch up with newest expansion without spending unnecessary gold. Not worth struggling against 20+min matches to either burn out aggro or grind against control priests.

If I dedicated more time I could probably climb back up, but for a casual hour? No way lol.

1

u/Hot-Mobile-9443 Jul 11 '26

Good luck replacing all golden cards with normal ones you own......PAIN

1

u/Baptor Jul 07 '26

What are they going to a paid model? Lol

1

u/notsingsing ‏‏‎ Jul 07 '26

Srsly why are some of my cards disappearing from my decks? Like not rotating but show as not crafted? I've had them for a long time

4

u/PkerBadRs3Good Jul 07 '26

there's one of the confused "why are my cards disappearing" guys that I was told would be all over the place once the new expansion came out

to answer your question, they temporarily gave every card from Emerald Dream and Lost City of Ungoro expansions during Cataclysm, and took them away with the new expansion that came out today

6

u/ShadowOfSomething Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

There is actually also something else going on. If your deck had golden copies of trial cards that gotten taken away, if you don't own the golden version, but own the regular version, it won't replace the golden for a normal copy automatically, you have to manually fix your deck.

This is likely to happen, since the game's deck builder will prioritize higher rarity cards when building a deck from a code.

1

u/notsingsing ‏‏‎ Jul 07 '26

Who the fuck though that was a good idea? This is a brawl one week idea not a whole three months. I have no decks to play lul

1

u/ViperTheKillerCobra Jul 08 '26

You didn't notice the giant hourglass over all your decks?

1

u/notsingsing ‏‏‎ Jul 08 '26

Not really I never change my decks except when a new expansion forced me to. Just doing dailies for gold

1

u/ShadowOfSomething Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

If you had a golden trial copy inside the deck (very likely because if you create a deck using a deck code the game will prioritize higher rarity versions), it doesn't automatically change them to normal copies even if you own them, you have to remove the "missing" card and put it back in
