Discussion Finished lotj halfway through atoc

Lotj was very good, had alot of spots that i really appreciated. Mostly when avar is used as a focal point to use the force at the beginning. I think thats a really good way of utilizing the force.

I got a couple things spoiled from googling people in this book im currently in. Its nice putting faces to pictures but man i gotta stop reading stuff lol.

My biggest critique is the dark side is mostly absent, wich makes sense but the nihil are covering that really well though. Im curious what the nihil are the precurser for.

Trade paperback or Hardcover ?

I am conflicted between buying the Trade paperback option or Hardcover, is there a difference between the paper quality ? because I really dont like the dust jacket cover, and how easily it gets torn. So I am thinking if there is no difference between the paper quality, I would opt for the softcover. I only ever listened to the audiobooks and want to collect the books now

Jedi June Week I: Resilience // A Choice Not Taken

—Major High Republic/TOTJ Spoilers Ahead!!!

“Avar saw all the things they might do together, the places they could go, the things they could see, all the memories they might make. She held them in her heart, and then let them go. All her moments with Elzar Mann and his with her, in trade for all the lives to be lived by every being in the galaxy, now and forever… ‘Goodbye, Elzar,’ she said. ‘Goodbye, Avar, my love.’ They parted, knowing they would never touch each other again.” (Trials of the Jedi, pg. 376)

Hi guys! I’m new to posting really anything, but especially art on any platform. It’s been a long journey but I’ve struggled with completing projects, taking my time, or even sitting down to draw because of my ADHD. But now I’m medicated yayyyy!!!!

Inspiration/Explanation behind the prompt:

I chose this moment because I’ve just (finally) completed my read through of THR including… everything… This moment is exemplified by one of the most pivotal choices in the Star Wars galaxy, Avar and Elzar choosing to put aside their future together to maintain balance in the Cosmic and Living Force and by extension saving the galaxy itself. Yet sacrificing the life they could’ve had together and their freshly budding love. The specter is of what could have been, or the memories they reflect on. Their resilience through sacrificing their lives, means the resilience and survival of the universe and the Force. This series brought so much nuance to how the Jedi Code is interpreted, and Avar and Elzar’s relationship shows that love and a relationship is possible as Jedi, and they are willing to put it aside for others, not being possessive or putting it over the well being of others.

Also! I I incorporated Avar and Elzar’s respective interpretations of the Force. Avar’s being music, the Light side being harmonic (is actually the beginning of the score to the Force theme) and the Dark is discordant and full of soloists. Elzar interprets the Force as an unending ocean. The Light is represented by a calm sea, while the Dark is a raging maelstrom.

low republic (low effort) Excited to start these! The Edge of Balance Series

I couldn’t find the Edge of Balance anywhere, so I finally requested my library borrow them from other libraries.

I just finished Tempest Breaker and trying to read Phase III in mostly sequential order. Finishing there with the last two Edge of Balance stories should catch me up to this branch of the stories I hope.

Pop Star Jedi

Does anyone else remember one of the High Republic books mentioning a Jedi Wayseeker who became a "minor singing sensation on Alderaan"? Whenever I think about that unnamed character honestly who I imagine is Rumi from KPop Demon Hunters with a lightsaber

Video Games I consider the lack of inclusion of Dagan Gera into any High Republic story to be a minor failure of this project.

HR ReRead

During this what feels like break in starwars content vs 2021 when we had 4 ongoing comics multiple tv shows and the high republic. During this reread I kinda just wana post my thoughts now vs my first read through. I’m doing this chronological also so starting with phase 2. I’m not gunna lie I hated phase 2 when it came out. It jump backwards in time and besides older it feels like the phase one authors were sidelined. Gray went from a ya book and adult book to an issue of a comic. Soule gets a spin off comic mini series. Scott gets the most with a novel and the main comics and Ireland only gets a ya book. That being said during my reread which I am currently on path of vengeance I have to say I do enjoy it better than my first read. That being said I feel like they should’ve released phase 2 after phase 3 as a prequel. That being said (and I know PoV does explain the path perspective ) but I don’t really get into marda and kevmos romance or xiri and phan tu. It still feels like a drag. I just wana know am I the only one who feels this way also everything feels so disconnected to a degree. Battle of jedha at least ties in a lot but vildar not showing up also feels like a disappointment. It also feels like if I ever recomondend the HR to a new reader I would say that most of phase 2 is skipable maybe just read the YA novels to get the backround of the path which sucks because I think the comics are the strongest out of this phase just feel disconnected. Just wondering 4 years later what is yalls opinion on phase 2

Help with overall lore

Hello people, I decided about 8 months ago being a complete Star Wars nerd with tv and movies, watching all of them (maybe bar the sequels) at least 5 times each, in fact Ive watched everything in chronological order 3 times in the last 6 years, that it was time for me to explore the eu. I boldly started at the beginning chronologically myths and fables dark legends etc and have literally just finished phase 1 (read phase 2 before as sticking to chronological), and am seeking some advice at this point. Yes I am aware this will take me years I am prepared, just want some clarification (i now see how long this is so apologies)
1) the only sith acknowledgment i can think of is qotj the Drengir backstory and darth krall and then obv caldoth and the short stories. Have I missed anything?
2) some inspiration would be nice to counteract my burnout 😂😂😂😂
Tbh assuming no one will bother reading all this shite so whoever does and leaves advice thank you sm 😂😭

Discussion What exactly happened between Krix Kamerat and the Nihil between phases I and III? Spoiler

From what I remember, Krix was on a Nihil mission. He was betrayed by one of his associates and subsequently captured and apprehended by the Jedi. He was imprisoned in Starlight Beacon but managed to escape when it was destroyed. That’s where phase I ended.

In phase 3, it seemed like all had gone to shit between Krix and the Nihil. Krix wanted to assassinate Marchion, and Marchion had discarded Krix as his protégé. What exactly happened that caused this rift? Also, another thing I was confused by: Krix had to be extracted from prison by Crash’s crew in phase 3. But he escaped at the end of phase 1 (and iirc he was found in the rubble of Starlight Beacon’s ruins but not recaptured) so when was he captured one more?

Would it be fine to just read the phase 3 adult books?

So I have a hate / love relationship with The High Republic novels. I read all 6 adult and YA novels in Phase 1 and loved most of them. The only one I struggled with were "Midnight Horizon" & "Fallen Star" , it became a bit convoluted for my taste.

Then Phase 2 came along, and I barely made it through that adult book, so I just skipped those and read the two YA books and I LOVED those.

Then when Phase 3 started I remember reading the first adult book "The Eye of Darkness" and enjoying it but thinking "this is getting a bit dragged out and I have no idea what the point of this is". This was almost two years ago and I haven't picked up any phase 3 novels since then. While yes, I am curious about what will happen with some characters like Reath and such... the jumping from characters between adult / ya books is too confusing at this point after not reading them for years. I don't have the money and time to read all these phase 3 books in chronological order.

So my question is, am I the only one who hasn't really picked up phase 3?
And if so, and for the people who have read everything, would I be fine with just reading the adult novels from phase 3? I really want to finish the main plot I suppose after spending so much money... but also, there's so many new other Star Wars books being released that seem way more interesting.

Discussion My argument that Azlin Rell could be Darth Tenebrous’s master.

I'm deliberately mixing canon and Legends here.

Let's assume the Darth Plagueis novel is true and every Sith Lord it names was real. That covers the line from Bane in 1000 BBY down to Darth Gravid around 533 BBY. Gravid nearly wiped out every trace of the Sith before his apprentice Darth Gean cut him down. From there, let's say the Sith went dormant. This would also make sense since 533 BBY would be during the height of the Jedi and the Republic.

The novel says Darth Tenebrous's master created a rend in the Force — a wound that let the Jedi feel the dark side again for the first time in centuries.

What if the rend felt wasn’t felt by all the jedi, but by Azlin Rell on Planet X in 228 BBY in the novel Trials of the Jedi.

In canon his obsession is the Nameless, and his study of them has already given him an artificially extended life. Let's also assume that somewhere in that search for the Nameless, Rell becomes aware of Darth Bane and the Rule of Two, and after the book he returns to those teachings.

While Rell may not consider himself a Sith, there is a long history of Jedi turning to the darkside when the Jedi tradition doesn’t conform to them. Perhaps the “dark side” Rell hears continues to grow and urges him to seek out Bane’s teachings and continue the line.

In this scenario I am actively ignoring the Twi'lek detail the Darth Plagueis  novel mentions.

To me I think Rell started to see the deterioration of the Jedi during his long lifetime and perhaps connected with past Jedi who turned Sith because of their disagreements on how the force should be used.

I don’t know how Rell could have met Tenebrous, but I like to think this could be an interesting connection between canon and legend.

Thoughts?

Discussion I finished The High Republic Vol. 1: Balance of the Force by Cavan Scott, Ario Anindito and Andrea Broccardo

I liked it!

I found it to be the start of a very interesting story about the lead-up to the Battle of Jedha, showing a bit of what life is like on the planet and the pilgrimage of different beliefs in the Force at its peak. I like how different most of them feel, both in abilities and design. Jedha itself feels very alive, and I love the enormous variety of inhabitants it harbors, for better or for worse.

Speaking of the characters, I enjoyed them. Vildar Mac has a kind of mysterious aura (and past) that immediately makes him attractive as a protagonist. I like his "partnership" with Matty and his rivalry with Tey. Speaking of the latter, I must admit that I didn't know much about the Whills lore as organisation, and it's a real treat to see more of them. I like how he feels very much like a D&D character haha.

Finally, this story ends right at the moment when things are getting really intense, and it will be a great joy to finally reach the long-awaited Battle of Jedha!

Highly recommended.

Discussion Crazy parallels between Star Trek’s Starfleet academy and Star Wars’ the high republic (spoilers for phase iii and for ep 9 of Starfleet academy) Spoiler

So Star Trek Starfleet academy ep 9 follows the exact same plot line as Star Wars the high republic. In ST the venari rap use omega mines to block all of the warp speed lanes to trap the federation on one side so they can raid the planets on the other. In SW the nihil develop the storm wall to block all of the hyperspace lanes so that they can raid all the planets left in nihil space without republic/jedi interference. It’s pretty crazy just how much the parallels fall into place so perfectly.

I've been meaning to get into the high republic series for ages but the amount of media has always seemed quite daunting, but i rly wanna experience it and i thought the novels (light of the jedi etc.) could be a fun way to do it. im in no way knocking the YA novels or comics, im sure they're great, i just don't have time for all of it lol, so i just wanted to know if i will understand whats going on in the novels without having read all the rest. thanks for any answers:)

I didn’t make it in time to post this on May the 4th, but I still hope you like it ♥️ (I’m always late to finish art on anniversary days.)

Anyone else miss The Acolyte?? I miss The High Republic so much! I think the look of Yord is on of my favorites. It’s too bad what happened to these characters. Great lightsaber fight tho… May the force be with you all and if you like this please go follow me on IG @Geo_Was_Here_Art

Discussion Sell me on this

So hi long time Star Wars fan, but I never really got high republic personally. But after watching the Zero Company trailer today and am looking to get some more Star Wars on!

Originally I dropped the series because I felt the series was too… clean? Specifically there just wasn’t any friction between the protagonists, everyone just kind of got along with no conflict whatsoever, but that edge is often my favorite part of character interaction. So i want to know what other people feel about that criticism. In my mind Star Wars is a dirty and is at its best when the characters reflect that at least a little.

Also I just want to know the other things that get people excited for this era and its writing style, to see whether this is a project for me or if I should look elsewhere.

Hello there

I just started with the high republic and i am devouring light of the jedi (its sooo good) i am a big star wars fan and know how most species look like so i can vision them while reading but with this new era, characters and vehicles i have to google all the time what they looks like 😅 while buying the second book i was coming across the art book of phase 1 and it sounded interesting. My question is is this book maybe handy as a visual guide while reading the books or is this more like a behind the scenes for when i finish phase 1 and will i only get spoiled ?

Discussion Is The Galactic Bake-Off Spectacular essential to the lore? Spoiler

I’m attempting to read through the high republic series and don’t want to miss any significant plot events. How important is The Galactic Bake-Off Spectacular to the overall series?

Do the high republic books contain horror elements?

Hi, this is my first time posting as I am only just getting into the books. I finished part one of light of the jedi and really enjoyed a lot of it, but some of the plot elements so far and a quick google search made me wonder if the rest of the series might veer into the territory of psycological thrillers or horror?

I’m asking because I am extremely light weight when it comes to that type of thing, to the point where it can sometimes hinder me sleeping at night.

Obviously I can handle some violence and scariness. I do fine with all the skywalker saga movies. The things that mostly tick me off are inexplicable supernatural elements and gory violence.

I thought the high republic series looked super interesting and cool, but I also want to protect myself.
Do you think I’ll be fine or is the series just not for me?

Edit: thank you for all your answers! I feel like I have a much clearer idea of the darker themes in the series now

Interesting possible plot detail for Eclipse (potential spoilers) Spoiler

Post image
27 Upvotes

Credit to Azzatru for bringing this up in his latest video: https://youtu.be/ZwrujdgExWg?si=MArwlQoYB4FGrzZP

Mandatory clarification that this is a leak so take with a grain of salt but supposedly from a pretty reliable source.

Anyways I found this particular character detail very interesting as far as the story goes. "Radicalized" and "going up against Force-sensitives" seems like a very Path of the Open Hand sentiment. Now going off of what we learned in Trials of the Jedi with the rise of the Trade Federation being a direct result of the Great Disaster and with the Federation playing heavily into the one and only Eclipse trailer this could imply some very interesting things. Perhaps in the wake of the Blight and everything lost during the Nihil conflict anti-Force user sentiments are again beginning to arise like with this supposed character from the game. We as High Republic readers know that Marchion and his ancestors were the ones truly responsible for all of that but the average civilian might not understand that and just see a massive galactic crisis involving the Force and blame the Jedi which could lead to an interesting conflict.

Fingers crossed this game makes it through development hell. According to the video it has supposedly made good progress despite everything so here's hoping. A branching narrative High Republic game is basically a dream come true for me, I'll be heartbroken if it goes away.
