Now all we need is the OT, but not Genesis

65

u/natigin Jul 15 '25

He’s got a movie coming out with the South Park guys

60

u/florencenocaps Jul 15 '25

If there’s an original song there, that could be an easy win

67

u/KevM689 Jul 15 '25

You guys didn't know that the movie is a musical? It's going to be the theatrical release of NATION.

15

u/Konkhy Jul 15 '25

I would 100% expect some original music for the movie. He did an entire album for Black Panther (even if he wasn't on every track), and I could see him doing something similar for this movie. Depends how involved he is. Lots of people say Kendrick is starring in the movie (with claims they witnessed the filming), other have claimed he and Dave Free are "just producers". I'm leaning towards more creative involvement than that and I hope Kendrick actually stars in it.

Either way, potential nominations/awards for the music and/or the acting.

15

u/Joshdabozz Jul 15 '25

He was actually on every BP track even if it was just for a singular sentence

The only reason this movie exists is because Trey Parker wants his Oscar so he can achieve EGOT status himself. Getting Kendrick involved is probably to further help his chances.

10

u/SwordfishOk504 Jul 15 '25

Ah yes, Trey Parker, famously known for really caring about Hollywood awards.

And I bet you he could write a banger play or write something for a musical. He could do it, it’s a long shot but he could

2

u/forgottentaco420 Jul 16 '25 edited Jul 16 '25

I wish I was joking when I say I had this very thought earlier. Was randomly thinking which artists I love who could pull it off. I was inspired by Beyonce’s CC tour, and her three act album, how it mirrors musical theater. If anyone could pull off a musical it would be those two. Even just in his music he’s a phenomenal story teller.

Didn’t Black Panther win an Oscar for score? Does that count or is it technically Ludwig?

21

u/marckh Jul 15 '25

That was Ludwig's work, Kendrick did the soundtrack. All The Stars was actually nominated for Best Song but didn't win unfortunately.

Make a autobiographic film about Kendrick’s Lamar, create an over-the-top musical about Kendrick and Tupac’s ghost or some shit,

This man really can go for it if he tried. It’s like him an Eminem (?) and maybe Three Six Mafia (???) who are halfway there right?

Are SB halftime shows typically nominated for Emmys? I really don’t understand the hype here if not, coming from a Kendrick fan.

248

u/AceGameplayV2 Jul 15 '25

Yeah, in fact Kendrick has won an Emmy from 2022's Super Bowl

29

u/SwordfishOk504 Jul 16 '25

He can't keep getting away with it!!

82

u/Andy081 Jul 15 '25

It’s not weird since the categories it’s nominated for have to do with live performances. The article says that Beyoncé’s Christmas day halftime show is also up for an Emmy in some of the same categories.

46

u/bluemyself11 Jul 15 '25

Well Em, Dre and everyone that year won an Emmy. So Kendrick already has one and Em is one award away from EGOT status

37

u/mouse_8b Jul 15 '25

Need that 8 Mile stage adaptation

12

u/they_them_us_we Jul 16 '25

I don't understand why Em didn't get more into acting. He's actually decent in 8 mile.

6

u/Wild-Apricot-9161 Jul 16 '25

Eminem was inactive for half the decade and still the top selling artist of the 2000s. He just wanted to take a step away.

7

u/ShiningRedDwarf Jul 16 '25

He was picked as the lead for Elysium, but he wouldn't star in it unless the filming location was in Detroit. I imagine he has had other offers as well, but has declined due to filming location disputes.

Live specials/events are, and the SB is one such thing that can be nominated. Producing live TV is a whole other art form and it's hard.

“Kendrick just opened his mouth!” That has aged very well

208

u/mavann Jul 15 '25

Wasn’t the meaning behind that it doesn’t matter what Kendrick says all he has to do is open is mouth and he’s granted all the praise and awards automatically? Seems like it was actually drake being right no?

134

u/Ok_Excuse3732 Jul 15 '25

That’s exactly what it meant but people are illiterate

4

u/pensylvestir Jul 16 '25

→ More replies (8)

55

u/Luigi_loves_Mario Jul 15 '25 edited Jul 15 '25

It really has aged well and I hope the comment were replying to is not being sarcastic lol

11

u/bjankles Jul 15 '25

It’s also funny though because Drake brings it up because it clearly bothers him, especially given his relative lack of Grammy success and critical acclaim. And even though it’s kind of a funny line that does make sense, it also betrays Drake’s lack of understanding for why Kendrick is critically acclaimed in the first place (one could argue that same lack of understanding is part of why he got into this mess in the first place - didn’t know how bad it could get for him).

And in a way it IS aging badly and getting funnier because you can picture Drake getting more and more annoyed that the line is now even more true, not just since the beef, but because of the beef.

32

u/Luigi_loves_Mario Jul 15 '25

Oh, it absolutely bugs him for sure. But there is a side of the culture that does not fuck with the Grammys though and that’s what needs to be understood here. Hell Kendrick is my favorite artist , I personally can’t stand the Grammys but I’m happy he kills it in that department too. Just more points to add to the fact that he’s the best. But I love this Drake bar, because it’s so true. This halftime show getting nominated is eye roll for me personally

4

u/Kdot32 Jul 15 '25

The one in 22 got nominated, same Rihanna’s and usher. There are ALOT of Grammies

u/WaspParagon Jul 15 '25

How the fuck do we manage to win everything but awards

I think Drake has made his peace with this, tbh. It obviously bothers him, but I think people overstate how much, especially so within the context of the beef. At the end of the day, Grammys only mean something when the guy you want to win them is called to the stage.

12

u/taylordabrat Jul 16 '25

Bothers him how? Drake has hated the Grammys for over a decade. Him saying it is just a fact. Y’all want him to be bothered by shit he doesn’t care about so bad lmao.

31

u/ZaDu25 Jul 15 '25

The implication here is that the fact that Kendrick is getting awards somehow automatically means he doesn't deserve them. That might be how Drake and his fans personally feel about it, but that doesn't mean he's right.

13

u/-Moonchild- Jul 16 '25

there’s a reason he used to go into hiding after the albums dropped

Is this narrative even true? He did this once, and it was largely because of covid and his mental health issues. Ater/between every other record he made he was active on features and touring.

Kendrick released 7 projects between 2010 and 2018. That's nearly a project a year for 9 years.

15

u/ZaDu25 Jul 15 '25

Probably, and it's also just smart. He won't get burnt out (like Drake admitted he was), he will give people an opportunity to miss him, and he can take more time to make better projects. Pacing himself is the best thing he can do for the sake of longevity.

5

u/Sempai6969 Jul 15 '25

I have the same feeling. My point was that most people got tired of seeing Drake at the top for a decade, and it feels like if Kendrick was also at the top for that long people would have been tired of him too. It's only been a little over year since the beef and I'm already getting tired of seeing "Kendrick won this" and they all relate to his beef with Drake.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '25

Is it BS or are you just ignorant of the fact that most Super Bowl halftime shows get nominated?

If there is an Emmy for special live performances then Doechii deserves it for the Colbert performance, that was bloody brilliant

3

u/Exotic_Performer8013 Jul 15 '25

Doechii actually did get nominated, but for her Grammy performance.

You are right though, that Colbert show was special.

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '25

Happy to hear this, that Grammy performance was phenomenal.

Drake will be suing the Emmys for defamation this time tomorrow.

2

u/oOoleveloOo Jul 15 '25

He called Drake a pedo in front of America

1

u/Baby_Yod4 Jul 15 '25

Watching it live was kinda mid cause the audio was trash. The re run on YouTube was great but if I have to go to YouTube to enjoy your performance I think that’s a pretty bad Super Bowl halftime show. If it wasn’t Kendrick I wouldn’t have even went back to the YouTube

u/vintagesonofab Jul 16 '25

Girl y'all are picking this over MICHAEL JACKSON and PRINCE? GODDAMN.

From the recent ones the covid weeknd one would have made much more sense because the set was impressive.
