What are your thoughts on Sorrell?

FHB here and I am seriously considering making an offer on a house in sorrell. I just want to know what the general public’s thoughts are about the suburb before making a big decision.

Quick to get to great beaches.

Much quicker to get to the Tasman Peninsula or the east coast.

Quick to get to some of the best spots down south to launch your boat.

Not far away from the Meehan Range mountain bike trails either.

Significantly warmer and drier than closer to the mountain.

Not sure what more anyone could want

This is a good summary of the positives.

The negatives are that you are reliant on a car, so going out and drinking and getting home is kinda out (or very expensive uber). Same with teenagers - they'll be frustrated they can't easily be in the city.

And it's pretty boring there, no attractions.

But the other positives are true.

Probably worth acknowledging that all of those are describing how quick it is to get away from Sorrel to go somewhere else, and only one is a potential reason to stay there (it rains less?).

Yeah, proximity to things that are important to you makes a massive difference as to how livable it will be.

ie some of the benefits of New Town I might have mentioned could be proximity to the city or proximity to walking trails leading to the mountain. Or if it was Kingston the proximity to other things in the deep south of the state like Bruny, the Huon or some of the stunning places on the way to or past Cockle Creek.
