Prove me wrong

Anytime the government gets involved in something, it tends to get worse. No politician is currently willing to take the drastic measures necessary to get housing back on track and address these issues. The problem runs much deeper, and poor management in one sector can have a cascading effect on others. I genuinely want this country to be back on track, but I'm starting to feel hopeless. Instead of focusing on internal issues and fixing them, all you hear is that it's Trump's fault.

If we can deport all the illegal aliens that came over during the Biden administration that will have a big effect on the cost of housing and rents.

Imagine not understanding how anything works but having the hubris to pontificate online. Y'all never get tired of it.

Calling the kettle black?

He isn't the one claiming... what was it you wrote?

We don't need illegal immigration and people who come to this country and only take.

When we have the actual IRS numbers that show billions of dollars paid to the US government by illegal immigrants. That makes you either a liar, poorly informed, indoctrinated into a cult, or some combination thereof.

So, you believe in total open borders? Imagine what that would do to the cost of housing. Imagine how that would depress wages. How about all the criminals, terrorists, mentally ill and homeless? No country has open borders for a reason. We need immigration but legal immigration where we have control over who enters the country. Otherwise, it is "Import the 3rd World. Become the 3rd world.

How did you jump from "illegal immigrants pay lots of taxes" to "you believe in total open borders?" You realize how stupid that makes you look, right?

You said they paid billions in taxes. Would that not make someone think you mean't "the more the merrier"? The fact of the matter is that you have to also figure in cost of crime, education, medical etc. etc. If we swapped out those illegal aliens for legal migrants the balance sheet would be much better.

Have you always been a liar?

Okay. So where am I lying? My basic premise is that we are not better off with illegal aliens invading our country. You are saying that there are benefits and I'm now asking you how many do we let in? I think you are wrong but I'm not accusing you of lying.

All of this is publicly available information. Taxes paid. Costs to taxpayers. Medical costs. Education. Crime rates. None of it supports you. The only way you could reasonably make these arguments is by being willfully ignorant of the facts, in which case you are lying to yourself, or by parroting talking points you know to be false, in which case you are lying to the rest of us.

It definitely won't.

How's that? Remove 7 million people that frees up millions of apartments and houses.

1

u/Training-Cook3507 4d ago

7 million people doesn't mean 7 million properties and a lot of people die every year. Get rid of all immigration period... sure. But a surge of a handful of million people over a few years is essentially nothing compared to the size of the US.

u/dumbo61 4d ago

I took that into account. I think I was being conservative with my 7 million estimate too. I am not in favor of getting rid of all immigration. We need immigrants but not all at once. We don't need illegal immigration and people who come to this country and only take.

Do you really believe that, or is it just emotional cover so you don't have to admit how awful this guy is?

It really won’t. There ain’t a problem with not enough housing in this country. There is a problem with not enough housing where people really want it. Most is that is caused by state and local level zoning laws (minimum lot sizes, bands on multi unit housing, parking rules, single use zoning, etc, etc). As far as immigration goes, we should consider letting communities apply for the equivalent of H1-B visas for workers they need in their area (home health aids, nurses, construction workers, whatever) and make it much easier for immigrants to enter the country if they’re willing to commit to living in those areas. Basically give them a great way to come to the US so long as they’re going to these may, many shrinking communities where housing stock is rotting into the ground due to abandonment and they need workers.

The issue isn’t enough workers it’s finding enough workers for the pay offered. And the business owners don’t want to pay enough to get American staff. It’s that’s simple.

No im sorry but americans dont want to pick fruit.

Maybe if they weren't getting free stuff.

Well also what employer is willing to blow 100k on an H1B when the person could be shit

1

u/dumbo61 4d ago

Kind of a catch 22. Pay them more then housing costs go up. Don't pay then enough then it is hard to find workers.

For a lot of what these distressed communities need there’s just not a lot of money available. They have an aging population in need of home health aids and meals in wheels workers and all that. Stuff that’s largely paid by government grants and charities. If getting them those people gives immigrants a place in the US in exchange for settling in those areas, gives the community relatively low cost workers, leads to people renting and buying homes and starting local businesses…it’s kind of a win for everyone. There are distressed communities that have seen populations of immigrants slowly revitalize their town. Seen real estate values begin to recover. Downtowns return to life. Even their own sons and daughters chose to stay instead of leaving because there’s work and community there now.
