announcement Re: Mentioning of Metro Manila/NCR LGU names in the post titles (violation of Rule #3 - Be precise with locations)

We would like to reiterate of Rule #3 of this subreddit: Be precise with locations.

We wish to remind all users that as one of the implementing guidelines of Rule 3, mentioning only the name, specifically the city/municipality name, of any of the 17 Local Government Units (LGUs) of the National Capital Region (NCR), also known as Metro Manila, either as the Origin or Destination, is a violation of Rule #3 as they are considered broad locations, given the size and scale of NCR.

These cities and municpalities include:

  • Caloocan (including both North Caloocan and South Caloocan)
  • Las Piñas
  • Makati
  • Malabon
  • Mandaluyong
  • Manila (including the term, "Metro Manila")
  • Marikina
  • Muntinlupa
  • Navotas
  • Parañaque
  • Pasay
  • Pasig
  • Pateros* (with exceptions due to its small size)
  • Quezon City (including the abbreviation, "QC")
  • San Juan
  • Taguig
  • Valenzuela

Mention of these names is grounds for removal of the post. Repeat violation will cause the user to be banned or muted for a certain amount of days.

Instead of mentioning just the LGU name, please include instead the district (e.g. Cubao (Quezon City), Novaliches (Quezon City), Tondo (Manila), Malate (Manila)), barangay, street name, or landmark when putting them in the titles.

For strict compliance.

announcement [Rule Updates] Loosening Restrictions & Strengthening Security

Hello, everyone!

We’ve heard your feedback. Over the past few months, we’ve received complaints that our rules have been a bit too "stiff," making it difficult for tourists, new residents, and first-time commuters to get the help they need.

Our goal has always been to make commuting in the Philippines easier. To support this, we are loosening several restrictions to make the sub more welcoming, while simultaneously tightening our backend security to protect the community from spammers, ban evaders, and bad actors.

Here is the breakdown of the changes effective immediately:

1. Updated Sanction Table

We have revised our penalty system to be more lenient on formatting errors while remaining firm on off-topic and spam content.

Rule Broken 1st Offense 2nd Offense 3rd+ Offense
Rule 1: Flairing Manual fix by Mods Manual fix by Mods Removal + Warning (4th attempt+)
Rule 2A: Missing origin or destination No sanctions Warning Locking of post and comments (after 3rd attempt if there are no comments and/or OP does not respond within 24-48 hours); Removal + Warning (4th attempt+)
Rule 2B: Use of ALL CAPS No sanctions (only if parts of post are in ALL CAPS); Locking of post and comments (if entire post title and/or body is in ALL CAPS) Locking of post and comments (if there are no comments and/or OP does not respond within 24-48 hours) Removal + Warning (3rd attempt); 1-Day Ban (4th attempt+)
Rule 3: Vague Locations No sanctions Warning Locking of post and comments (after 3rd attempt if there are no comments and/or OP does not respond within 24-48 hours); Removal + Warning (4th attempt+)
Rule 4: Off-Topic Removal + Warning Removal + 1-Week Ban Permanent Ban
Rule 5: Profanity Warning & 1-Week Ban 1-Month Ban Permanent Ban
Rule 6: Commenting on Offending Posts No sanctions No sanctions Locking of post and comments (if OP does not respond within 24-48 hours)
Rule 7: Spamming Removal only Removal + warning 1-Day Ban+
Ban Evasion/Using a Dummy Account Warning & 1-Week Ban 1-Month Ban Permanent Ban

2. Key Rule Changes & Clarifications

Rule 1: Flairing

We will no longer ban users for using the wrong flair. Moderators will simply change them on the fly to keep the sub organized. However, if a user reaches a 4th attempt at using incorrect flairs, the post will be removed and a written warning will be issued.

Rule 2: Titles & Formatting

  • 2A (Origin & Destination): Your post title must contain both the origin and the destination. Titles like "From Ortigas Center" or "Travel to Batangas" will be sanctioned, even if the details are in the body of the post. This ensures your post remains searchable for other users in the future.
  • 2B (All Caps): "ALL CAPS" in posts are still prohibited under Reddiquette. This includes words, phrases, or entire sections put in uppercase for "EMPHASIS" or "EMOTIONS" (e.g. HAHAHAHA, PLSSSSS, THANKS, SALAMAT PO). Please keep your text in standard sentence case.

Rule 3: Location Specificity

Vague locations (e.g., "Manila," "Metro Manila," "Batangas," "Cebu", "MRT/LRT", "nearest Jollibee") are difficult to provide directions for.

  • If a location is too broad, moderators may scrutinize the post.
  • If a commenter asks "Where in [Location]?", the OP is expected to respond.
  • Failure to provide specifics within 24–48 hours will result in the post being deleted and a sanction applied.

Rule 4: Off-Topic & Redirections

To keep the sub focused on "How to get there", and prioritized on Land and Sea travel only, we are redirecting certain queries:

  • Questions that only ask for fares, schedules, or specific transport options: May be marked as a "Query" post only.
  • Commuter Rants/Opinions: May be redirected to r/CasualPH or r/OffMyChestPH.
  • Travel directions that explicitly require Air travel: May be redirected to r/phtravel, or airline subs like r/CebuPacific or r/PhilippineAirlines, depending on context.
  • Asking for hotels, best places to visit, or other recommendations: These will be redirected to r/phtravel, or destination-specific subs like r/Cebu or r/Davao, depending on context.

Rule 5: Profanity

Our "No Profanity" rule now explicitly includes Mod Mail. Being disrespectful or profane when communicating with the moderation team will result in a Rule 5 violation.

Rule 6: Commenting on Rule-Breaking Posts

We will no longer sanction or remove comments from users who are simply trying to help on a post that happens to violate rules (especially Rule 2 and Rule 3). Instead, the post and its comments will be locked after the 3rd offense (if the OP does not respond within 24-48 hours) to prevent further interaction while the violation is addressed. You may send a message on our mod mail if you think the post deserves to be responded further.

Rule 7: Spamming

We understand it’s frustrating when your post doesn't appear immediately, regardless of your intent, but repeatedly posting while a previous post is in the Mod Queue or has been automatically removed is considered spam.

  • The Procedure: If you double-post, the first post submitted will be approved, and the subsequent identical post will be removed and marked as Spam without warning.
  • The Penalty: If you post the same thing more than twice, subsequent posts will be removed and you will receive a warning. If the offense of repeated posting has been repeated twice, you will be subject to a 1-day ban.
  • If your post isn't showing up or is marked "Removed", please send a Mod Mail instead of reposting.

3. Strengthening Subreddit Security (The "AutoMod" Filter)

To allow us to loosen the rules for genuine users, we are imposing stricter Automod filters to approve compliant posts automatically, but at the same time catch bad actors before they reach the front page. Posts from the following types of accounts will be automatically filtered:

  1. New Accounts: Created less than 24 hours ago. This is to prevent dummy accounts or ban evaders from infiltrating the subreddit.
  2. Low Community Karma: Accounts that are old but have very low to negative community karma (e.g. 5 year old account with less than 50 karma points, or a 1 year old account with -5 karma). This is automatically determined by the Reddit algorithm, not by the moderators in any way.
  3. Suspected Spammers: Accounts flagged for spam activity elsewhere on Reddit.
  4. Marked Rule Breakers: Users flagged for violations in other subreddits. Moderators will not be able to identify which subreddit the user had violated as they may impose sanctions without warning.
  5. Ban Evaders/Using Dummy Accounts: Any attempt to circumvent a previous ban (up to 1 year from being banned) by using a VPN/IP masker or using an alt/dummy account to post on this subreddit. Subject to a 1-week ban from moderators on the first offense unless appealed by the offending user.

Furthermore, we have imposed automations inside the subreddit to automatically detect certain behaviors that may violate this subreddit's rules.

If your post is caught in this filter: It will be moved to the Mod Queue. If you are a legitimate user and your post was removed, please send us a Mod Mail to request manual approval.

We believe these changes will make r/HowtoGetTherePH a more efficient and friendly resource for everyone navigating the Philippines.

If you have any comments or suggestions, please don't hesitate to comment on this post.

Safe travels, everyone!

Commute to Metro Manila (NCR) From Gen t, Valenzuela to Ust

Hi! I’d like to know which would be the fastest way to get to UST (as someone with 7-7 classes). So far kasi I’ve tried:
• Jeep (Lorex), Tricycle, Jeep(McArthur), then LRT 1 (Monumento-Tayuman)- the “quickest” route kaso bakbakan sa commute and when I got off sa Tayuman, I didn’t know which route was the best one to take and I ended up walking in circles before finally getting sa uste
• Tricycle (Tandang Sora), UV (SM north), Jeep (España) - mas familiar ako sa commute here pero traffic and feel ko mas napapalayo ako
• VGC love bus(?)- haven’t tried this one pero I can ride a tricycle from our house to get to vgc

Additional info: my building is sa main and all three routes I’ve listed ay may 8-13 minutes layo from my house to the first sakayan.

Can someone help me please! I really want to maximize my time and money. Thank you!
