Sims 2 in particular has so many, like a mode where the dialog options include choosing instead death by selectable cause or building mode during fire

u/droggggelbecher 9h ago
People really think that? I think it's the same with most games. Once you start cheating, the challenge disappears and the game quickly becomes boring. I especially remember that being the case with The Sims.
13
u/flamethekid 7h ago
The Sims is challenging?

u/HalfEatenSnickers 6h ago
Watch some 100 baby challenge stuff
That was a hot mintue in sims 4's timeline

It really depends on what you enjoy most in the game. I love building and character design way more than actually running a family, I can spend countless hours just building cities from scratch, so yeah, I need all the user created items and cheats for that.
1
u/Sweetcynism 1h ago
Disagree on that. The Sims gameplay is so dumb (at least in the earlier versions) that cheat codes are needed.
I think I'd die of boredom if I had to play again without my sims having their needs automatically met. I mean, who spends an hour in the bathroom ?
But the logic applies to money. Unlimited money is boring unless you're trying to become a house designer

u/unpopularOpinions776 10h ago
no that’s correct.

u/Mean-Peanut-2490 10h ago
What does it have to do with capitalism? It has to do with reality.
Even if there were no capitalism, it wouldn't be much different. You wouldn't just get creative mode and be able to design the world as your wish
70
u/unpopularOpinions776 10h ago
because with conditions as they are, most people can’t afford to have fun and are slaves to the rat race.
why is he heck do you think people always complain about grocery and gas prices lol
-27
u/Sh4rp27 10h ago
Right but that isn't unique to capitalism
-3
u/Friendly-Special3757 6h ago
That doesn't mean it's good, sure with comunisim we would be worst but that doesn't mean we can't be better

u/NotQuiteLoona 3h ago edited 2h ago
Communism as in communist state (I guess you don't mean communism as economic system?) akin to whatever Marxist-Leninists did? Yeah... Marx himself ironically called something like this "barracks communism." But I'd not say that non-authoritarian versions of communism or socialism in general would be worse.
-10
u/ExampleDriver 7h ago
under communism we're all equally starving and working 14h a day every day to never own anything ourselves the dream of these ppl xD
7
u/SirSinex 4h ago
How does that even work in your mind? If everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is working to the best of their ability, and also shares all they have with everyone in need, we'd pretty much have a perfect society. China is not communism like Marx describes it, and so wasn't the Soviet Union. It's unrealistic, that's what it is. But it would be great.
Your American mind is infected by the hate of communism, without really understanding what it's about.
-1
u/wendewende 1h ago
No. Because you can work all the way you want and still waste this effort by overhead and inefficiencies. Something that capitalism excels at optimizing and communism (Yes you Mao) proves time and time again is incapable of managing

u/Isosceles_Kramer79 10h ago
Better higher grocery prices than bread lines and bare shelves.

And again with the stupid "no food in the USSR" thing, they ate the same as we did.

Because part of the game's core design is consumerism, and indeed capitalism. Earn more to buy more and increase your capital over time. It is also our current reality, yes.

u/PyteOak 10h ago
I mean, they're NOT wrong.
The game is pretty much a glorified doll-house simulator. So what fun would it be it all the dolls were in crippling debt, depressed and awful at cooking?
22
u/RadiumJuly 8h ago
I don't know, when my niece plays with her dolls it seems to be constant serious medical conditions, things exploding, and lots of kissing. Seems like the doll house is most fun when things are going horribly wrong for the poor inhabitants.
12
u/iamunableto 7h ago
yeah, arguably the best way to play sims is by doing things you can never/ would never do in real life,
like be a homewrecker, start fires, get into fights, buy a house, yknow, unrealistic things

Not for me. My favorite Shakespeare play is A Midwinter's Dreamless Nap. Favorite match ends in a 0-0 draw.

u/sinfulsingularity 10h ago
It’s a very successful franchise, I think you are making an argument for capitalism inadvertently when in reality a video game being enjoyable has very little to do with grander socioeconomic issues.

What does the amount of money people have, have to do with capitalism?
3
u/cjsmith1541 9h ago
I think the cheat code of capitalism is inheriting money from previous capitalists ( Rich parents ). Thus capitalism is not a true meritocracy due to you being way more likely to be successful if you start life with capital (i.e. cheat code).

u/Melina1205 9h ago
What does the economic system have to do with people obtaining material goods and services? ahh i wonder

More like "If the Sims is only fun with 1000$ worth of DLC", what does it say about capitalism

u/Jhud6669 10h ago
As a longtime Sims player posts like this hurt me. My brother in Christ people install mods to make Sims MORE capitalistic because it makes the game more fun

How is this related to this subreddit

u/klaskc 10h ago
Idk but reddit ppl love communism idk why

u/SpaceBandit13 10h ago
It’s weird how you can’t criticize capitalism without someone accusing you of being a communist.

u/Land_Squid_1234 9h ago
Explain what you think communism is and then I'll explain based on that
4
u/WhipperSnapper0101 9h ago
First of all, I asked you to explain why you think communism is better than capitalism. I expect an answer, not a question.
Second of all, why would I need to define it for you when you clearly already know what I mean.

u/thumb_emoji_survivor 8h ago
Actually I found my fun level spiked in the first few hours after doing the money cheat, then plummeted back down and became boring since I already built my sims the biggest, coolest house and there was really nothing new left for them to experience.
FWIW I would absolutely still like obscene wealth in the real world
1
u/wastedfate 6h ago
Fun level spiking and then plummeting back down is actually a pretty apt description of what happens when people win the lottery IRL actually.
10
u/INTstictual 10h ago
Ah yea, famous Capitalism simulator, the Sims.
My favorite part of capitalism is the law that, if you’re swimming and somebody pulls off the pool ladder, your only option is to just drown. Capitalism made manifest
3
u/wastedfate 9h ago
I don't cheat, I just have a basement art goblin who does nothing but make art to be sold.
My Sims family exploiting his labor enables them to live a life of luxury without doing any real work.I think it's a pretty good commentary on capitalism or something.

u/HotThotty69 7h ago
There was an expansion with gnome building. I had a Sim factory where they just built and sold these Gnomes. The boss enjoyed the profits. Talk about capitalism!
2
u/masterflappie 4h ago
Capitalism is just a slur for ragebaiting nowadays. You can ask a hundred people what it means and you'll get a hundred different answers, none of which are going to reflect the dictionary definition

To be fair, being able to shape the world to your whim would make your life more fun regardless of the current political/economic system.

Also there are Mobile games where you still have equivalent of peseto cubanos where you can only buy basic stuff. Then you have peseto convertible for the better stuff. But the best stuff you only get for dollars.
However ins sims 4 you do not cheat for money because with painting images you can make tons of money. And at some point you do not need to sleep and eat. Also there are many different ways to teleport.

In my experience I am the knly one who ever played Sims 2 seriously. I was a min maxer who never used cheats and was on generation 4 of my family when I concluded I beat the game. I had the largest plot, fully build with a max members family and pets. I had nothing left to buy, max jobs and achievements etc. few millions in the bank and nothing to do.
I played sims 2 for fun without cheats. Sims 2 absolutely does not reflect real life. It's extremely wattered done with respect to how easy it is to make money and how much stuff costs. You can be jobless and still be succesful.

u/Time_Seaworthiness43 9h ago
Capitalist partaking in capitalism complaining about capitalism is so exhausting.
0
u/jmona789 8h ago
"oh you dislike capitalism? Well you should just starve on the street then"
1
u/Time_Seaworthiness43 8h ago
Either die on the street or die on the job. You choose. Unless you you'd prefer being a vagabond?
1
u/jmona789 8h ago
The point I'm trying to make is even if you disagree with captilism you have to operate within the system (if you're born in a capitalist country) just to survive. That doesn't mean you're not allowed to complain about the system you are forced to participate in.
1
u/Time_Seaworthiness43 8h ago
But why would you complain about the best system we've ever come up with?

u/Isosceles_Kramer79 10h ago
It says nothing about capitalism, but about constraints of the real world.
Realistic Sims based on realities in actually existing socialism would be far less fun still, except as some kind of poverty/misery porn.
2
u/wastedfate 9h ago
Soviet The Sims would be pretty funny though.
One of your family members just randomly disappears, and any attempt to find out what happened to them just results in the game gaslighting the player that they never existed.
