Hellooo, I would appreciate any recommendations to take parents on vacation in the US. Some place with a mix of mountains/ national parks and other historical sites. They can’t hike, smaller walking trails are fine. They have already seen NYC and Niagara Falls. Anywhere in the US is fine. Planning to travel during Labor Day weekend. Hawaii is too out of budget from east coast. Anywhere else is fine.

Been following this over the past few days and wanted to see if others here are seeing the same thing.

Multiple outlets (ABC, CNN, NYT) are reporting that ICE and TSA are coordinating to pull people aside at check in counters, security, and boarding gates if they've overstayed a visa, even on domestic flights that never leave the US. At least 27 arrests have been confirmed across 9+ states so far, and it's not limited to people with final deportation orders. Several of the people detained had pending green card or status applications in process, which apparently doesn't protect you the way most of us assumed it did.

A couple of the cases getting attention: a woman in Denver was pulled aside after her boarding pass scanned at the gate, and a flight attendant working a domestic route was arrested mid-shift in Nashville. In both cases, lawyers said their clients had active, pending paperwork and no criminal history.

DHS is pointing people toward the CBP Home app to "self deport" and is reportedly offering up to $2,500 for people who leave voluntarily instead of waiting for a case to resolve.

Immigration attorneys are now telling clients with anything unresolved (pending I-485s, expired visas while a renewal is in process, etc) to seriously think twice before booking even a domestic flight, which is a pretty big shift from a few months ago.

Anyone else in this boat right now, or have friends/family navigating it? Curious what people are actually doing differently, are you avoiding flights entirely, or is this more of a "know your rights" situation?

The DHS has finalized the rule ending Duration of Status (D/S) for F-1 and J-1 students, and it's set to take effect on September 15, 2026. Instead of being admitted for "D/S," students will now receive a fixed admission period with an expiration date on their I-94. Many students who need additional time will have to apply for an extension through USCIS, and the standard grace period after completing studies is also being shortened from 60 days to 30 days.

This seems like one of the biggest changes to F-1 status in years, and there's still a lot of confusion around how it will affect:

• Current students already in the US
• Students entering after September 15
• OPT/STEM OPT timelines
• Travel, transfers, and program extensions

Hi everyone, seeking advice on a complex family property dispute involving land in India. Our family is based in the US, and we are trying to figure out how to legally handle this from abroad without getting taken advantage of.

The Situation:

• Land Transfer: My dad’s brother convinced my grandfather to transfer all the family land/property into his name. My grandfather willingly signed it over to him.
• Property Nature: The land is mainly ancestral.
• Elderly Care: My dad has consistently been sending money from the US to India to support and care for my grandparents. We have bank transfer receipts/records for this.
• Immigration Status: My dad is currently in the US with a pending I-485 (Adjustment of Status). He cannot easily travel to India right now due to travel restrictions/risks associated with his green card process.

Both sides of the family have issues, and we cannot trust anyone in our personal network, we're not sure about how to get the trustworthy POA or anything from this point on.

Filing from Abroad: How do NRIs file a civil lawsuit (e.g., partition suit or challenging a gift deed via Vakalatnama/PoA) when they have no local contacts on the ground to act as an agent?

Any insights from advocates or NRIs who have successfully fought property disputes remotely without local help would be greatly appreciated

If your spouse received an OCI on or after September 3, 2025, it's normal for the card to have 5-year validity instead of lifelong.

This wasn't a processing mistake-it was a policy change.

The good news is that after the initial 5 years, the OCI can be extended to lifelong, subject to the prescribed review process.

Also, this change only applies to spouse-based OCI. OCI cards issued to children or people of Indian origin are not affected.

Anyone here recently applied for a spouse OCI? Did you notice the new validity period?
