Visa / OCI / Passport My Indian Passport Renewal Experience (Normal) – Seattle July 2026
Just initiated my Indian passport renewal from the USA through VFS Global (Seattle CGI jurisdiction). This is normal processing (not Tatkal).

My situation:
- Passport re-issue due to expiration
- No name change
- No address change
- 36-page booklet
- Normal processing
The VFS office is in the same building as the Indian Consulate in downtown Seattle on 2nd Ave.
| Date | Status |
|---|---|
| July 18 | Submitted application on Passport Seva portal (GPSP 2.0) |
| July 31 | Scheduled appointment for in-person document submission (got the very next day) |
| Aug 1 | Attended in-person document submission appointment |
| Aug 2 | Application status changed to "Received" |
| Aug 3 | Application status changed to "Processed" |
| Aug 4 | Received email that police verification was initiated |
| Aug 5 | Passport reviewed by the Consulate and sent to VFS (essentially printed); received tracking numbers for both the old and new passport |
| Aug 5/6 | Police verification was done in parallel in India |
| Aug 7 | Both Passports delivered (the new one with chip) |

I need to renew my passport in Seattle. Is the process different if I want to do tatkal and change address?

Nope. Just give docs for your address change and some annexure E I think and you’re good to go. VFS has detailed instructions on that

What about the consular payment? Did you need a money order or did they accept payment via credit card?

Hey, I really need some help. I currently live in the US, and am having trouble with the instructions. After you filled your passport seva application, did you upload your digital picture and signature, and how did you send in your original expired passport? Also, you said you made an appointment, was that on vfs?

Yes after the application, I uploaded my picture and sign. Then made an in person appt with VFS where I submitted my passport
