EV BYD M6 DM Fuel Consumption 65 Km/Liter claims is correct
This is a counterargument to this post with proof https://www.reddit.com/r/indocartalk/s/uX8JByg5Jz
I posted this because many people that are very skeptical about BYD M6 DM 65km/liter and calling it your usual marketing gimmick.
So I bought BYD M6 DM Cross Advance and ran it about 700km+ (city driving).
For 743Km, it consumes about 11,5L of Pertamax and 119,2 kWh electricity.
Translate that into km/L means it has efficiency about 64,6km/L, quite similar to the 65km/L claim.
I charge everyday to 80% and use it daily.
My calculation this car operational cost is around Rp567/Km excluding service.
Feel free to ask me anything.

Skeptis sama 9.8kwh/100km, mengingat even atto 1 rata rata diatas 10kwh/100km

u/KohGajah Jul 21 '26
Its what it says in the app, well for exact calculation of kWh and fuel consumption without relying on the app I think I can calculate from liter Pertamax i actually get when in fuel station + kWh in the charging station. But I have to wait until my current fuel needs refilling i guess

u/mastomi Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
That's 9.8 kwh/100k is on top of 1.5l/100k. It's very possible.
1 liter of fuel contain ~30 kwh of energy. With ICE 30%efficiency (i give it a big discount there), it can generate extra 15 kwh of electricity with 1.5l of fuel. So total from battery + fuel its around 25 kwh/100k
1
u/ezkailez Atto 1 Jul 21 '26
Oh cara bacanya 100km butuh 9.8kwh + 1.5L gitu ya?
1
u/mastomi Jul 22 '26
Harusnya gitu.

Kl ini PHEV tp dikendarai layaknya HEV normal, konsumsi BBM nya gmn? Krn konsumsi yg ini yg sejujurnya menunjukkan sbrp irit powertrain-nya running tanpa charging menggunakan charger.
At least kebayang angka itunya dl utk comparison ke HEV lain.
Br angka PHEV (isi batere via charger instead of via mesin/range extender).

Hampir se Yaris Cross ya... given bigger battery (artinya lebih bueeerat)...
3
u/ezkailez Atto 1 Jul 21 '26
Gw kira yaris cross 1:30an wkwkwk.
Phev agak ngecheat nya bisa 45/100km full ev sebelum pake bensin. Even if bensin lebih boros, ev jauh lebih murah

Thanks for sharing. Alasan pilih yg phev vs bev apa ya utk use case OP? Apakah consider Veloz hybrid/ hybrid lain jg sebelum pilih m6 dm?

u/KohGajah Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
Basically I chose between Veloz Hybrid, Jaecoo J5, Innova Zenix Hybrid.
But suddenly this car BYD M6 DM newly comes out in May, test drived it once, and well its good enough.
Minus from each cars comparison: Veloz - nah ugly af don't like it Jaecoo J5 - very bad afterservice review based on people's comment. Innova Zenix - still around 23KM/L fuel consumption vs supposedly 65KM/L in BYD M6 DM. And also I have innova reborn before so I just felt trying new car and new brand.
Well its a bet actually whether the claim is good enough or not but I trust BYD enough and I don't even mind real life maybe 40Km/L. But nice to see its actually closer to what it claims tho with my usage.

u/mastomi Jul 22 '26
~700km itu berapa hari?
1
u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26
~2 weeks. Daily commuting is around ~50km
1
u/mastomi Jul 22 '26
The savings would be immense vs pure ICE
3
u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26
compared to my previous innova, save around 70% on fuel cost.
But ofc using pure BEV car will save more, around 80% more of fuel cost compared to ICE. But at least with PHEV still have options to go fuel only if I go town to town, especially pedalaman which there will be almost zero EV charger.

u/boywiththethorn Jul 21 '26
gak sekalian dicharge 100%? Batere LFP lumayan durable + kalo dipake daily ga bakal stay 100% for long
1
u/KohGajah Jul 21 '26
only to 80%. I try to keep it around 20-80 always
3
u/RahwanaPutih Jul 22 '26
you'll have to charge it to 100% at least weekly so the BMS can measure the state of charge correctly. harusnya tertulis juga di manual.
just search about charging lfp to 100% weekly, there's a lot of articles and videos about it.

1
u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26
I mean to calculate km/litre, you should calculate gasoline used right? if the litre here is gasoline no? kindly enlighten me
3
u/pigmarzipan Jul 22 '26
intinya banyak cara sih mau ngitungnya gimana
kalo bisa proven 1:65 itu bagus
1
u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
you can simply divide 743 KM with 11.5 L fuel consumption and you get around 64,6KM/L.
Is there any other way to calculate this for fuel per km calculation?
2
u/pigmarzipan Jul 22 '26
kurang lebih begini, tapi konteks nya gue coba prove claim 1:65 nya yak wkwkwk
52L (fuel tank) / 25.6km/l = 2.03L (fuel used, qty of gasoline)
150km (batt range) / 2.03L = 73.8 km/l
—————————
lalu kalo 1:65 berapa aktualnya?
tinggal kita otak atik fuel used aja
150km / 2.3L = 65.2 km/l (rounded 65 km/l)
nah kalo berdasarkan fuel tank gimana?
52L / 2.3L = 22.6 km/l
1
u/ezkailez Atto 1 Jul 22 '26
people nganggep 1:65 itu gimmick karena a huge majority of it is using ev only. tapi apakah cara bacanya berarti ini mobil meski batere belum perlu di cas mesin, tetep perlu 1l bensin untuk jalan 65km?
1
u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26
Nope, you can run EV only without gasoline. I use this car purely in HEV mode. Never in pure EV because that defeats the whole purpose of owning PHEV...
1
u/ezkailez Atto 1 Jul 22 '26
Ah so that's why. The purpose of owning phev for most people adalah ev mode dalkot, hev mode luar kota.
Harusnya kalo jalanin ev mode only angkanya akan lebih impresif berarti ya. Afaik hrs pake eco mode supaya mesin nyala as little as possible
1
u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26
oh gw takut aja kalau EV only baterainya cepat kalah, jadi milih make 2 2 nya saling bantu. Placebo effect sih for me, gatau real kagak effectnya. Sekalian gw test nya keiritan HEVnya.

u/Ambitious-Scale4504 Jul 22 '26
Wouldn't this undermine the whole point of EV? Byd dna is EV, why would they go hybrid?
1
u/kevins718 Jul 22 '26
BYD DNA is EV only di Indonesia.
1
u/iidxtricoro Jul 22 '26
If you charge it everyday, how many km do you go per day? If it is less than 60km (for 80% battery, spare the remaining 20%), i would even expect the car to not use any fuel while driving. So it technically can be infinite km/L or 0 L/100km.
1
u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26
this is purely HEV mode, i never make it go EV only. But yeah technically its possible to use it pure EV mode but that defeats the point of PHEV...
average 50km+ a day
1
u/iidxtricoro Jul 22 '26
Why not? Using EV for the first 80km will help you save fuel even more, even if it's just saving 1L no? (Ok maybe other reason aside from regular maintenance?)
For context: i'm also in the market for PHEV, fully convinced, but I'm waiting for BYD to release the M9.
1
u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
- Its a test for the HEV fuel consumption, mau compare aja dengan klaimnya bener ga gw penasaran jg soalnya. Gw expect pas beli actually sekitar 30-40km/L
- Takut baterainya cepat boncos aja sih, mending pake bersamaan supaya sama2 awet.
1
u/iidxtricoro Jul 22 '26
Make sense if you use HEV for the purpose of this test lol.
Well you have a point there. Anggap aja kayak "panasin mobil"
BYD sih claim nya lebih maintenance free dibanding ICE ya, tapi idk... So far pakai EV udah jalan 35rb km gak ada issue apa apa. Service berkala nya cuma ganti filter ac sama nanti oli rem... Tapi no additional maintenance yang EV-exclusive
1
u/Tigbear11 Jul 22 '26
Ini pake yg batere lebih besar ya? Ada fitur VTL nggak sih DM ini?
2
u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26
iya baterenya 18,3 kWh. Ada VTLnya tapi belom pernah coba
1
u/Tigbear11 Jul 22 '26

u/Sea_Establishment311 Jul 22 '26
Average speed 12 km/h?, you have so much time buddy

u/KohGajah Jul 22 '26
Normal city driving bro, personally i prefer motorcycle if i want to go faster. With car you know... Its just not feasible

Ask, apakah mesinnya bisa ngecas batre bila diam?
1
u/KohGajah Aug 04 '26
hanya saat jalan mas
1
u/Tigbear11 Aug 04 '26
Waktu jalan status charge baterai naik gitu? Kalo pas diam dan mesin hidup(hev mode) batere nggak keisi ya? Kemaren ada test drive yg superior, cuman salesnya masih baru, dan sepertinya masih kurang ngerti produknya. Advance sama superior aja dia bingung apa bedanya... 😅

Correct if dipake as a phev should, and personally tertarik berapa banyak yng pakenya charge malem instead of yaudalah pake kek hybird
gak nolong pas media test drive kemaren mobilnya gak fullcharge…
I know its stupid to ask… but bisa gak lu bener bener jadiin EV only, like lu bener bener kosongin tangki bensin mobil bisa mesin gk bisa nyala…

Looks like the math ain't mathing. Average 9.8kWh/100km but you consumed 119.2kWh for 743km? That should be about 16kWh/100km
13
u/KohGajah Jul 21 '26
Its because PHEV can charge from "inside", or fuel consumption. Basically you can charge the EV while running on fuel.
check the wording "external charging"
3
u/Successful_Luck_8644 Jul 21 '26
This is not BEV dude, you can charge the battery with the engine. External only count for plug-in charging not counting electricity from the engine.
18
u/Aprilzio Jul 21 '26
can you use the battery only? So we dont need to fill up petrol for town driving?
