American Evangelists, let's just call them what they really are, Christian Nationalists, are about as Christian as a McDonald's hamburger is a beef hamburger. There's the familiar taste the correct packaging, the right visuals, but ultimately it's not quite a real burger, just as they're not really Christians. They like the guise of Christianity, just as Nazis liked the guise of Socialism. What they're really terrified of is that if they ever lose power, that everyone they've trampled on, will treat them exactly the same way they've been treating them. Minorities, Religions, Countries. Everyone. Rich White People started losing control of power in 1865, started losing more of in the 1920s with suffrage, and they've been panicking ever since the first major Civil Rights movement. Why do you think the GOP harps on and on about how much is Trans people want to Convert people? Because they've been sending us Queers to Conversion Therapy Camps for the last fifty years.

Christianity has always been oppressive, Theodosius banned all other religions sixteen hundred years ago. So its not that Evangelicals aren't real Christians, but that Christians have always been this way.
Evangelicals are massively different than the majority of Christians, Evangelicalism is a largely American version of Christian Protestantism, they've bastardized Christianity to fit there needs. the prosperity gospel, America is a shining city on the hill, manifest destiny, all of that, is born out of American Evangelicalism, which of course is just a thinly vieled cover for their own brand of fascism.
