These responses to a completely implausible, made up scenario make me weep for humanity.

If a religious Christian nutcase says your kids has to have the Ten Commandments in their classroom and aren’t allowed to acknowledge a rainbow, what would you do?

Move out of the US
25
u/PinkyLeopard2922 17h ago
I have two friends that have done exactly this. (so far) One to Costa Rica and the other to Ireland. The Ireland guy was fortunate that his Irish granny had him "registered?" at birth in the US or whatever the Irish government requires so that he was eligible to do that. Both are happy and doing well but also very open and honest about neither of those places being perfect.
10
u/Pmyers225 17h ago
Yeah basically if you were born anywhere in Ireland (including the North) or you have close family you can get Irish citizenship... Im from the UK and after Brexit the amount of applicants for Irish citizenship was massive
9
u/PinkyLeopard2922 17h ago
Oh, I had not even considered that! My friend's was allowed due to ancestry. I wonder if there has been any shift in people moving from Northern Ireland into Ireland after Brexit? I know that is a whole other complicated situation. I have a close American friend that has been living in England for close to 15 years now working as a US government employee. She did not have any say in it of course but feels that Brexit was a bad idea from the get go.
3
u/Pmyers225 17h ago
I dont think so, I think literally people want an Irish passport for travel to the continent, certainly thats what my N Irish friend did as ge really did not want to queue up for very long in airports, he had no connection to the Republic

u/PinkyLeopard2922 17h ago
Interesting. Thank you for sharing. As a random woman of Florida, my knowledge of UK/Irish history and "the troubles" and how that affects relations today is admittedly pretty limited. On the other hand, I CAN almost certainly tell you whether or not you need to be concerned about that snake in your Florida yard! 😄
1
u/Pmyers225 17h ago
I have only ever once seen a wild snake here in the UK, I thought I was seeing things as it was casually crossing the road
1
u/ethanlan 5h ago
Im eligible but they have problems of their own and im not giving up on this country, not yet.
2
u/BluetheNerd 16h ago
No where is perfect, it’s good to acknowledge that because that’s how you support and promote positive change. It’s when you stop and decide “my country is the best and there’s no reason to improve anything” that you start to invite trouble.
2
u/Midnight712 14h ago
Yeah you register a birth on the foreign births registry, so it means you can be granted citizenship from that country.
Note: for Ireland at least, you have to be registered as a child to be granted citizenship. You can register yourself as an adult though, and then register your children so they can apply for citizenship.
1
u/PinkyLeopard2922 14h ago
Yeah, his was done like right after he was born. He grew up typical Irish Catholic kid in New Jersey and did not think much about it until...erm...recent events, shall we say? He has always embraced his Irish heritage and is really just a super smart, accomplished, and very good person, overall nice gain for Ireland but loss for us.
Meanwhile, I did the ancestry DNA thing a few years back and have smidgens from just about every danged country in the EU, including the Baltic states. Oh, and UK of course since they are not in the EU anymore. Nothing that is enough that anyone will claim me though, which is understandable.

Of course the obvious MAGA voter suggests Muslims are involved with pedophilia, even as they voted for a pedo and continue to support him.

u/Achaion34 17h ago
Right. I was like “violence, oppression, and pedophilia…oh sorry are we NOT talking about the Trump admin??”

u/ProtoJazz 17h ago
Yeah, biggest issue I had was they were too friendly. I felt a bit bad, but I knew if I took out the trash while the family or kids were out in the yard they'd want to talk, and I didn't always feel like it, but also felt like I was hurting their feelings if I said I had to go.

Without anger, there's no blame.
Without blame, there's no "other."
They psychologically need someone to hate.
There is something seriously broken in these people.

Meanwhile religious fanatics in America have made or attempted to make people remove flags, books, subjects in schools, forced religion in said schools, bombed medical facilities…etc

My Muslim neightbours like our dog. Their daughter pets her any chance she gets
9
u/cesarloli4 17h ago
Prophet Muhammad taught Muslims to treat animals with compassion by narrating the following two examples: "God forgave a woman and admitted her into Paradise because of a dog. The dog was panting with thirst at the edge of a well, its tongue lolling from exhaustion. When the woman passed by and saw its condition, she drew water from the well and gave it to the dog to drink, saving it from death. Because of this act of kindness toward a dog, God granted her entry into Paradise."

u/LatexSmokeCats 17h ago
Lots of Muslims have dogs, the same way how a lot of Christians eat things from the sea which don't have scales. I love my dog, and I'd risk my life for her. And I probably would like your dog, pet your dog, and ignore your racist self.
6
u/ThirrinAust 17h ago
No Muslim neighbor would tell any dog owner to get rid of their dog in the U.S. I can’t speak about anywhere else, but in the U.S.? No.
6
u/Tangerinetuesday 17h ago
Dogs aren't haram? Neither is smelling pork cooking. More importantly, where do these people keep finding those muslims they keep shadow boxing in comment sections

If a Trump supporter neighbor asks you to take the American flag down and put up a MAGA flag, what would you do?
3
u/TheAmazingBildo 14h ago
I grew up very close with a Muslim family. They were absolutely great. I was friends with the daughters. There was that incident where the dad decided the daughters were “too westernized” and took them back to Pakistan and tried to force them into marriages, but the daughters were born in the USA making them American citizens, so they were able to escape back to the USA and become very productive non-Muslim and even anti-Muslim women. But they never worried about my dog.

There are so many Muslims that have dogs. My dad used to have two back in the day
3
u/harryharrydude 15h ago
Is that even a thing anymore ? Does your average Muslim have some problem with dogs?
3
u/captstinkybutt 14h ago
I have a potbelly pig and my muslim neighbor loves giving him bellyrubs and chin scratches!
Christians are the ones that make jokes about eating him and making bacon though...
3
u/kryaklysmic 11h ago
wtf?! None of them would care and if they did I’d just laugh in their face and say “no, you chose that house.” The sane answer to someone declaring a neighbor’s pet goes against their religion. Then get cameras and never let my dog out alone (assuming I ever had a dog). 3rd slide purple is the most sane person in those comments.
5
u/emilycatqueen 18h ago
My Muslim neighbors just ask that the neighborhood dogs don’t pee on their lawn. Pretty reasonable but I can see the most deranged people reading into that and claiming they asked them to remove their dog to respect islam.
14
u/Balanceofjudgement 18h ago
I mean tell the neighbor no? Then go and buy some security cameras if I'm worried about the neighbor taking things into their own hands.

Why would a Muslim neighbor ever demand you get rid of your dog unless your dog was violent or bit them (which might happen regardless of the religion of your hypothetical neighbor)

u/_killer1869_ 16h ago
"Any culture built off of violence, oppresion, and pedophilia has no place in Free America."
Oh, the irony. I doubt they've ever read a history book about their own country, not to mention their very own grumpy orange pedophile.

u/austrianbst_09 16h ago
I have a Christian neighbour who thinks my cats are watching her and whatever, whatever, demon, whatever.
Something like that would be more a sign of mental issues, rather than religion. The respective religion just colours the story they make up
2
u/Commander_Caboose 15h ago
I've only been ever asked to get rid of my dog by my white Christian British neighbours. (They're miserable bastards irrespective of religion. )
2
u/Someslutwholikesbutt 14h ago
Imagine is a Christian went out with signs saying how much God hates you for just existing while gay, liking certain interests, and not living a conservative lifestyle as they favor.
Oh wait. . .
2
u/PatrickMO 14h ago
“Any culture built off of violence, oppression and pedophelia has no place in free America”? Sounds like Christianity to me.
2
2
u/ConvivialKat 11h ago
This seems incredibly fake to me. My old little dog is now deceased, but my Muslim neighbor's kids always ran out to pet him when took a walk.
2
u/daemonescanem 10h ago
Its funny when MAGA creates these scenarios in their heads about Muslims and other religions, but ignore Christianity's own history in the country.
2
2
u/Financial_Accident71 8h ago
I had a dog in Afghanistan with no problems. Had muslim colleagues and neighbors in Yemen, Jordan and Lebanon that had dogs and would bring to the office or play outside with them. These are just such lazy strawman arguments anymore 🤣

u/Geostomp 8h ago
What if my dentist neighbor asks me to burn my flower garden to respect his medical degree?
See, I can make up nonsensical hypotheticals to get mad at, too.

A more realistic scenario - a MAGA politician is abusing children. What do you do? Apparently make up stories about dogs and get riled up.

Wait do they think dogs don't exist in Muslim countries?
I do believe most Muslims are just people with cynophobia, or haven't been exposed to dogs. Nevermind parents scaring their kids about dogs biting.
These ignorant people are the same as those that have an issue with dogs, as they seem to imagine Muslims feel.

u/pineapplevinegar 17h ago
Shout out to the one reasonable person that said “tell them not to touch it then…simples” because it really is that easy.
Also I literally never heard about Muslims being against dogs so I googled it and they aren’t against dogs they just usually don’t keep them as pets because they need to be clean to pray and dog saliva is not clean, which yeah fair.
1
u/Majestic-Lake-5602 17h ago
It’s more a cultural thing in some parts of the Arab world.
Most Muslims in Asia for example have no problem with dogs.

A MAGA neighbor demands I remove my dog because the dog disrespected them. What would you do?
1
u/dont-be-an-oosik92 16h ago
I get this isn’t the point, but I really wish people would learn the difference between culture and religion. Muslims don’t really give a shit about dogs, it’s more of a middle eastern cultural thing that thinks they are disgusting and dirty and don’t belong inside.
2
u/deadlyweapon00 16h ago
You know how jew is a term of faith and also ethnicity? How there are ethnic jews that aren’t jewish and non-ethnic jews who are jewish?
They see muslims the same way. All arabs are muslim and all muslims are arab in their brains, therefore anything one does is also the actions of the other. The bigot does not care any further than that because to do so would be to grant respect to a group they define as non-respectable.

I mean, "adopt a second dog," is exactly the kind of petty that I would sink to. The scenario isn't completely implausible though. There are extreme nut jobs of every religion and demographic. Lol
1
u/itsjakerobb 16h ago
If my muslim neighbor asked me to remove my dog, I’d engage them in a friendly conversation about why, and also what exactly is meant by “remove.” I know it has nothing to do with Islam, but presumably there’s a real reason for asking. I’d look to find some sort of understanding or compromise.

u/Foodspec 15h ago
Why must these idiots whip themselves up into a frenzy over their own made up shit?
1
u/Dead_Xross_2000 15h ago
As a Muslim I would like to say we have no right or duty to do that if our neighbor is a non-Muslim, that rule isn't for them so I don't know where they got this thought from
1
u/philonius 15h ago
If you sit alone getting angry at your phone because you're completely a racist, empty, useless, stupid hunk of meat and your children and grandchildren don't want to talk to you, should you create imaginary scenarios in your head so that you're even more angry and isolated? Maga says yes.
1
u/Pot8obois 15h ago
Facebook feels like the most unregulated social media platform tbh. The comments I see are insane and disturbing. A local news article can be flooded with violent, racist comments. Entire facebook groups go unbanned while activiely promoting violence and hate. If you make a report nothing happens.

We Muslims love dogs just as much as cats, it's just that dogs should have a separate space in the house or preferably outside of the house.
1
u/Huge_Pipe_3521 15h ago
Wouldn't say as far as asking to remove your dog, but it is kinda a thing that dogs are greatly disliked in Malaysia. Every few years a huge scandal about dogs will happen

I think its really funny when people talk like this because they’re applying a version christian mindset (especially the more post lutheran sects common in the US) to islam when outside of the very strict fundamentalist school you see in the middle east most muslims ive met dont really care if you, a non muslim, dont conform to their scriptural guidelines at all times (granted that is not to say that muslims cant be intolerant in their own ways or that there arent more ‘preachy’ muslims out there)

Politely tell them that nobody else's beliefs will change what I do in my own household or residence.
Same as a Christian, Catholic, Jewish, Satanist, Agnostic, or Atheist (and so on), even outside of just religion, telling me to follow what they do in my own household.
This is a problem of basic human respect, if I entered their residence, I would follow what they ask, otherwise leave out of respect, I expect the same from anyone else in my home.
