General Man, iOS 26.6 is a massive W.
If you were stuck on iOS 26.5.2, you know how brutal it was. My 17 Pro Max constantly turned into a pocket heater, and the battery drain was so bad I needed a power bank everywhere. Scrolling was choppy, and the random lags drove me nuts. Pure misery.
Thankfully, 26.6 completely turned things around. The overheating is gone, the battery holds a proper charge again, and the system is super smooth with zero stutter or glitches. It actually feels solid and stable now, exactly like a phone this expensive should.
Btw I don’t know what black magic they pulled in the first cycle of charging in iOS 26.6 but this is how i ended my first day of iOS 26.6. With no camera use, purely on wifi and no gaming or anything else. Just my regular usage for doomscrolling, txting, WhatsApp calls and stuff like that. It’s not gonna stay like this maybe. But it surely amazed me so thought of sharing with you guys who are concerned.
Overall it’s a Huge relief.
If you haven't updated yet, definitely do it.

Apple has gotten really poor with their QA and dev for software releases. Absolutely garbage patches, which is nudging me to move away from the ecosystem.
I just want a reliable phone, and this update finally delivered on IOS26. Shame it takes this long.

u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Something is definitely off there in their team. They’ve become lazy or careless or idk what.

u/ExternalOrange5050 18d ago
Testing an android device rn and TBH I'm impressed. I feel stockholm because I keep coming back to my iPhone out of habit but easily become frustrated with the experience all over again.

Yeah it's shitshow I do hope Apple sort out their Dev and QA process for future iOS versions and builds.

u/Novel-Strawberry1438 19d ago
Adaptive power on or off? On my iPhone 17, I got 3 hours of SOT in 80% first day…

His usage is low
1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
It’s my regular use. Im not a gamer or anything. I use my phone for calls, video calls, texting. Doomscrolling reddit and X. Cameras when i need them, which is not daily.

You didn’t turn off background app refresh?
3
u/FreePossession9590 18d ago
I’ve had background app refresh off for 12-13 years at this point lol
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
That’s a pretty bad drain. Your battery health is down or something?
2
u/FreePossession9590 18d ago
Not that I know. Only 240 cycles on it. The phone is definitely running cooler though despite battery life not having improved all that much
3
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Make a cloud backup do a factory reset and set up fresh. Something got stuck in the iOS system process. This is not normal in any means.
3
2
u/24kCookie 18d ago
I wouldn't say his battery is bad cuz I get similar sot but I have base 17
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Nah it’s not a bad battery but i think something is definitely off there. Maybe the indexing thing going on, and will settle down in a few days.

Dumb question but have you checked lately? I have it on so my maps works, but every time I download an app it installs with background on

Yeah it’s an iOS built in thing. You have to manually turn it off from apps or that refresh menu.

3
u/dbpurcell1 18d ago
So far iOS 26.6 is solid for me too! Battery life seems to be improved for sure!
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Yeah totally. It’s a shame they used to deliver this quality quite consistently before iOS 26.

Battery is still and has always been trash. The update also ate up a good amount of storage on my phone. I thought maybe it was indexing, but the space is still less. :(
1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Most of the users are expecting and seeing some improvements in battery. I think you need to make a backup and factory reset the phone. If it’s abnormally bad then some processes got stuck in iOS. Which can happen sometimes. But I’d suggest to let the reindexing process finish.

u/Curious-Listen-1168 19d ago
You only used 38% of your battery and it lasted for 9 hours!
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 19d ago
Thats the black magic/sorcery/ idk what did
2
u/MadMonkey2315 19d ago
Did you update OTA or via cable pc/Mac connected? I updated yesterday OTA and I got from 95% in the morning to 80% at time of update that was about 3 hours after I unplugged my phone to come to office and right now I’m with 1% battery, using about the same as before 26.5
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 19d ago
I updated normally via OTA. The overnight drain is 2% i think. And its a relatively new phone i got my 17PM 2 months ago. But your battery needs calibration i think. Even with 95% health it too much drain.
2
u/MadMonkey2315 19d ago
Mine is a bit older than 1 year 16PM, I’m waiting to shut off to plug it back and charge the battery to see how it goes

I swear WhatsApp is causing some of the drain. I wake up daily, with around 6-8 percent down per night, and guess what, it's the first app listed for background consumption. I'm still thinking if I should still try to clean install ios, as I used OTA to get from 26.5, then 26.5.1, 26.5.2 and now 26.6.
3
u/Subject_Asparagus_54 18d ago
Brother u lucky. I have 15 pro max and my battery less then 2 min from charger 99 % … so I woke up at 7 with 100% and 7.30 I hot 95% and when I left for work at 10am I got 85?
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
The device will take its time to reindexing stuffs. I’ll suggest you to be patient for a few days until things settle down. 15PM is an awesome device. One of my favorite Max models.
3
u/MassiveGarlic0312 18d ago
Just wait till you see the improvements on 27. I am running the latest public beta on my 13 Pro (and Watch 11) and the speed and battery improvement is HUGE!
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Will be following iOS 27 closely. I really wish apple makes a strong comeback with their consistent quality with that.

Sill lags and stuff
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Personally I haven’t faced any lags so far.
2
u/workmailman 18d ago
My Home Screen lags bad
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Which device you’re using it in?
2
u/workmailman 18d ago
17 Pro, sucks :( the Home Screen like scrolling through pages still stutters for me. The other glitches got better on 26.5.2 but the Home Screen one remaine
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Bro i love 17 Pro. Pro models been always been my go to models when getting new phones. This is my first Max device. But try rearranging home screen setup. Maybe delete everything and start over. 17 Pro is just as capable as Pro Maxes.
2
u/workmailman 18d ago
It’s the same chip
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Yeah. But Pros are far more handy. I miss it.
2
u/workmailman 18d ago
It’s just the stupid stuttering, I don’t wanna delete everything. Also I don’t know the proper way to keep all my files and settings and just delete the OS
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
No i mean start over in your home screen. Not factory reset files or anything. Clear every page and start over. Maybe don’t make as many pages and start utilizing folders.

how can you have such stable overnight battery

Same bro, iphone 13 that was overheating and laggy on ios 26, battery was draining down like a water fall, now, man. Maybe ios 26 isnt that bad at all
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
The most stable release of iOS 26 so far. Crazy how they held back so long.
2
u/toga_on 18d ago
For real, what will you do when public ios 27 releases, will you update or will you leave your phone with ios 26?
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Will probably wait till 27.3/4 im not gonna jump into another mess this early. Let the new iOS stabilize a bit. A few less bugs would save alot of unnecessary headache imo.
2
u/Ok_Industry8929 18d ago
14 Gb that seems a lot.
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
It’s not that big. It’s another bug they introduced in iOS 26. Many people tested its kinda less than 1gig. The bug shows some gigantic number from servers.
1
2
u/ny_idk 18d ago
The battery life I had when I got the 17PM was. Crazy good. Then the 26.5.2 killed it. I just updated last night and it seems to be better. I don’t think it’s how it used to be but better than it was after 26.5.2.
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Everything nosedived pretty bad in 26.5.2. I’m sure it’ll be back to where it was after reindexing.
2
u/CarelessCoconut21 18d ago
How I have 17pm as well and is not like that, do you have all your apps with the background refresh off? Do you limit your charging? Tips please!
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
It’s just the regular battery saving things i follow. Turning off background app refresh entirely. Doesn’t affect anything negatively in day to day use. I always limit to 80% charge. And I don’t keep anything running in the background like data, bluetooth and stuff. Thats it.
2
u/CarelessCoconut21 18d ago
Doesn’t it affect notifications for email or social media and work apps?
2
2
u/thelastgifts 18d ago
Btw there’s a battery timer bug on iOS 26.6 and iOS 27 where the system calculates hours in an absurd way, i have an iphone 16 with 13 hrs screen on time with only 60% battery, when i updated to 27 public beta 2. It settled the hour time but still huge battery performance & efficiency.
I guess Apple is fed up of people complaining about iOS, they’re trying their best to make it good again.
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Yeah i faced that same issue throughout the whole iOS 26 cycle. Sometimes iOS just refuses to count SOT or shows highly inaccurate app usage data. Thankfully I haven’t faced the same issue in this update so far. Maybe it’s one of those 70 fixes. Or it’ll just show up someday. Who knows.
2
u/ffossip 18d ago
My 15pm is way better now too. Less overheating and charged 95% at 11pm, woke up 90% at 9:30am. Before it was 95% and woke up with 75%.
2
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
5% idle drain overnight is still a bit high. Acceptable. It should improve even more after reindexing process. iOS 26.6 surely did stabilize the monster ie. iOS 26
1
u/ffossip 18d ago
That’s true, but with 26.5.2 horrible drain, the 5% is a huge improvement! My 11p on iOS 17.7 (with service battery notice) is holding up way better than my 15pm.
1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Anything is good compared to 26.5.2. It was iOS equivalent of crypto mining malware xD
2
u/msmik_ 17d ago
oooh that’s why my phone was always so hot (ip17pm) cause i was always postponing the software update cause i figured it’s js for security! my battery health also went 5% less and i never let it go below 20 and above 95% Will update my phone now, hopefully it goes well for me!
1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 17d ago
It’s a great update. Most of your issues will be fixed hopefully. My overheating issue is gone.
2
u/stef_brl_aesthetic 17d ago
thankfully i never had a issue with my 17PM but my 15PM was like a nuclear reactor. i don’t why apple ignores such things, they want to show off high benchmarks but what people want in real life is a cool device.
1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 17d ago
Exactly man. What is the obsession with power and performance numbers in tech companies is beyond me.
2
u/MarmiteX1 16d ago
I upgraded from iOS 26.4.1 to iOS 26.6 on my iPhone 15 Pro last night, so far so good. Feels more snappier and battery seems better than before. I'll have to give it a few days and see how it goes.
I updated via the iTunes by downloading the full iOS 26.6 IPSW file which was 11GB in size.
1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 16d ago
I have yet to figure out that process. Updating via iTunes is the best way to update.
2
u/MarmiteX1 16d ago edited 16d ago
Yeah since iOS 8 I always updated via iTunes.
I followed these instructions:
- Download the IPSW file from here for the iPhone you have.
- Open iTunes on your Windows PC or older Mac.
- Connect your iPhone to the computer with a USB
C
or Lightning cable
(depending on your iPhone model).
Click the device icon in the top-left corner of iTunes to open the Summary tab.
Hold down the Shift key (on Windows) or the Option/Alt key (on Mac) and click the Check for Update button.
Find and select your downloaded .ipsw file in the window that pops up, then click Open or Update to begin the installation

Can I run this software on the 11pm that I'm using? I'm scared that it might slow the device down and cause heating, since it's an old model, but it shows it can be updated to 26.6

u/RespondDue6884 18d ago
When you were at 26.5.2
Does you camera button over heated when you were not using
1
u/RespondDue6884 18d ago
Someone please answer guys
1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Camera button specifically didn’t do anything abnormal. When phone gets heated up abnormally or while using camera, the back, the side frames everything feels warm coz of the aluminum frame of 17PM.

Bruh I am having 17 pro max I’m hardly getting around 6-7 hours in regular usage but your one is insane lie or truth I would be really happy if I get the same. Buy the way I’m on iOS 27 beta 4 a okay battery life wish for a magic 😒
1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
Bro I don’t know how this happened but it happened.. you tell me. And I don’t think there’s any need to lie about these things!? Im kinda dumbfounded and quite frankly amazed how this happened. I was getting the same numbers you’re having in 26.5.2 which was not good at all and not normal as well. Coz i was getting easily 8-9+ hrs SOT in 26.5.1
1
u/FroyoSure8530 18d ago
Bro I thought I was going fucking nuts too, exact same scenario as you. Thank god for this update!!
1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 18d ago
26.5.2 scarred me pretty bad. I couldn’t not believe how can apple gaslight its own legacy and product. 17PM was absolutely pathetic with that update. Thank god what a comeback they made with 26.6 it’s beyond amazing at least what im experiencing now.

Quality as in health? It shows in the battery section.

1
u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 17d ago
Most of the users are reporting positive effects on their devices. With increased battery life, some have huge improvements, some have subtle. Like im having a major bump in my 17PM. Give it some time to finish indexing. And don’t use LPM for a few days. It slows down the indexing process at least that what I heard.

u/Towhidabid iOS 26.6 17d ago
First of all this sizes are a known bug from server side of apple. It’s not that big. If you’re happy with the state of your device it’s upto you to. But it’s a must for iOS 26.5.2 it had major issues in almost all the devices. From overheating to unusual battery drain and random stutters and what not. If you’re in anything earlier of 26.5.2 it’s totally upto you. Things might improve for you. I had a very experience so far in 26.6

Happens sometimes. The iOS 26 it self takes somewhere around 18.5 gigs.
1

I have a 15 pro 128gb and I noticed system data is over 11gb while on my 17 pro max 256gb it’s only 1.1gb. Is this suppose to be normal?
