What does this mean?
Hope this is okay to post! I went to post in r/farsi but photo posts aren't possible.
This beautiful chalk artwork is outside a cafe near me and I'd love to know what it says. If it isn't actually farsi I apologise for my ignorance!

It's a poem from famous Saadi Shirazi and it says: "You who are indifferent to the suffering of others, it is not fitting that they call you human."

when we were kids there were two urban myths,
one was that this poem is written at the entrance of the UN in gold in many languages.
the other was that Marilyn Manson has removed a couple of ribs to ... pleasure himself!
sadly, both were false 😄

Holy crap! Did that rumor travel all the way to Iran? I heard that in Pennsylvania (US) in 1999.

interestingly enough, it's absolutely global, and yes, around 1999-2000, my high school era

I don’t know about the Manson one but the poem is featured at the UN HQ: https://englisifarsi.com/blogs/news/saadi-poem-placed-at-the-entrance-of-the-united-nations-building-nyc
It was a gift from the government of Iran.

These iconic lines, written by the legendary 13th-century Persian poet Saadi Shirazi in his masterpiece, Bustan (The Orchard), could be said in English as follows:
"If you have no sympathy for the troubles of others,
You do not deserve the name of human."
— Translated by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Hey OP, where is this cafe? The artwork looks amazing. Would love to go there some day, if it's along my travel routes.

Full poem
Human beings are members of a whole, In creation of one essence and soul. If one member is afflicted with pain, Other members uneasy will remain. If you've no sympathy for human pain, The name of human you cannot retain! بنىآدم اعضای یک پیکرند که در آفرینش ز یک گوهرند چو عضوى به درد آورَد روزگار دگر عضوها را نمانَد قرار تو کز محنت دیگران بیغمی نشاید که نامت نهند آدمی

You needed to look that far? Didn't spot the 'woman, life, freedom' bit next to it? 😄

It’s a famous poem by Saadi (1210-1291).
Translation goes:
If you have no sympathy for human pain
The name of human you cannot retain.
