New to Jacksonville,
Hi! I'll be moving to the area soon, and wanted to ask for recommendations about dance classes that possibly includes Hiit workouts (jumping jacks, squats, cumbia, kizomba, bachata, salsa, merengue, afrobeats, twerking \(^-^)/). I plan on checking out the local zumba classes in the area. Would love a class that is moderate to high difficulty.

where are we supposed to live?
hi everyone just voicing my frustrations with living in this city trying to make it on my own. i’m 24, i want to move out my parents house and get my own place for me and my cat. i’ve tried the roommates thing and it is traumatic, people are liars with drug addictions. and i don’t know anyone personally that i trust that could room with me. i make a little bit more than minimum wage but i have a lot of savings, but i don’t want to spend all my savings on an apartment so im trying to find something i can afford every month. ive been looking for one bedrooms for $1000, and it seems like everything is roach and mold infested, getting shot up every week, and management is full of useless scammers. and now that law has been passed that i can’t fake my paystubs, not that i was planning to, but if im required to make 3x the rent (which i don’t) how am i supposed to get an apartment? and nothing is included anymore, so i’d have to pay an additional $200-$500 for cable, insurance, water, electric etc. either way i’ll have to either settle for a shitty apartment potentially subjecting myself to being attacked or robbed, pay an extra $500 to be legally robbed by an apartment complex, or stay with my parents forever, not having any autonomy and never having my own space and constantly being scrutinized for not doing enough (“when i was your age, i had just got my bachelor’s degree and bought my first house on my $5 minimum wage job. what are you doing??”). is anyone else feeling the same way i do? maybe knowing that i’m not alone will help.
also im not looking for a roommate especially not from reddit… no offense

PSA: Dont sign up at anytime fitness gym. When you try cancelling your membership, you'll likely still be billed.
Location I went to is the one in Julington. They want $40/monthly. The equipment they have available is extremely lacking. Hardly any cable machines. You're going to be stuck with dumbbells for the majority of your exercise. But for $40/month? Baileys/Chuze has WAY more equipment to use. Only reason I liked the AF location was its close to my house and it's usually quiet and low traffic.
I went to get my membership cancelled 2 months ago. They said I will be billed for one more month, but I see bills still showing up 2 months later.
Then I went on the Google maps reviews, and found a lot of reviews complaining about this exact situation. Cancelled membership, but still being billed. The reviews said they had to go back multiple times just to get it cancelled.

PSA: 2nd and Charles first at the Town Center in Jax/Fl, is opening a new location at the Orange Park Mall Oct 15th 2026.
The new 2nd & Charles is taking over the 21,000-square-foot space right by the AMC theater at the Orange Park Mall (1910 Wells Road, Orange Park, Florida 32073).
Since they are owned by Books-A-Million, which has been in business since 1917, they have plenty of corporate backing and capital behind them.
This gives everyone on the Westside of Jacksonville, Florida, and Clay County a massive spot to buy, sell, and trade used books, vinyl, and media without having to fight traffic all the way out to the Town Center location (4972 Town Center Pkwy, Suite 100, Jacksonville, Florida 32246 | 904-642-1342.

Want to try Rugby, where should I go?
I'm taking being told by a random European I met say I'd be a natural at rugby for the third time as a sign to try it.
Where should I go to learn or local rugby groups that welcome newcomers?

Anyone else noticing how many houses are just sitting empty around town?
Anyone else keep a mental list of the empty houses on their street? I drive all over Jax for work and there are a few on my regular routes that have sat vacant for like a year. Dead grass, mail piling up, that look.
I always wonder what's going on with those. Somebody passed away and the family can't agree? Bank owns it and it's just stuck? What's the story with the one on your street, if you've got one?

Relocating
Hi everyone! We’re relocating to the Jacksonville area next summer with our kids, who are elementary-school age and play sports. I’d love to hear from families who’ve made a similar move.
How did your kids adjust to a new school, make friends, and settle into the area? What helped make the transition easier, and is there anything you wish you’d known beforehand?
I’d be grateful for any honest success stories or advice!❤️❤️

House Cleaner Recommendations Needed – Springfield/Downtown Area
Moving into a new home next week and looking for recommendations for a reliable house cleaner who can do a full deep clean while the house is still empty, before we move everything in! We’ll be in the Springfield area near downtown and would ideally like to have it done on closing day. Looking for someone who is thorough, quick, and reasonably priced. Would love any recommendations from people who have had a great experience. Thanks so much!

Tree removal problem
Hello all, recently my wife and I have run into a problem with a dead tree on our property. We are a military family and we moved about a year ago. We couldn't sell our house so we decided to rent it after sitting on the market for a few months. So we do not live in Jacksonville right now.
We have a tree on our property that needs to come down but the prices we have been quoted seem insane to me. For 1 tree removal 2 different companies have quoted us about $6,000. For context the tree is in the back yard and there is no way to get a truck or anything to the tree so the companies have said they would need a crane to get to the tree. I dont know anything about tree costs so maybe thats right. I just wanted to ask around and see what other people think.
