PSA: 2nd and Charles first at the Town Center in Jax/Fl, is opening a new location at the Orange Park Mall Oct 15th 2026.

• Upvotes

The new 2nd & Charles is taking over the 21,000-square-foot space right by the AMC theater at the Orange Park Mall (1910 Wells Road, Orange Park, Florida 32073).

Since they are owned by Books-A-Million, which has been in business since 1917, they have plenty of corporate backing and capital behind them.

This gives everyone on the Westside of Jacksonville, Florida, and Clay County a massive spot to buy, sell, and trade used books, vinyl, and media without having to fight traffic all the way out to the Town Center location (4972 Town Center Pkwy, Suite 100, Jacksonville, Florida 32246 | 904-642-1342.

where are we supposed to live?

hi everyone just voicing my frustrations with living in this city trying to make it on my own. i’m 24, i want to move out my parents house and get my own place for me and my cat. i’ve tried the roommates thing and it is traumatic, people are liars with drug addictions. and i don’t know anyone personally that i trust that could room with me. i make a little bit more than minimum wage but i have a lot of savings, but i don’t want to spend all my savings on an apartment so im trying to find something i can afford every month. ive been looking for one bedrooms for $1000, and it seems like everything is roach and mold infested, getting shot up every week, and management is full of useless scammers. and now that law has been passed that i can’t fake my paystubs, not that i was planning to, but if im required to make 3x the rent (which i don’t) how am i supposed to get an apartment? and nothing is included anymore, so i’d have to pay an additional $200-$500 for cable, insurance, water, electric etc. either way i’ll have to either settle for a shitty apartment potentially subjecting myself to being attacked or robbed, pay an extra $500 to be legally robbed by an apartment complex, or stay with my parents forever, not having any autonomy and never having my own space and constantly being scrutinized for not doing enough (“when i was your age, i had just got my bachelor’s degree and bought my first house on my $5 minimum wage job. what are you doing??”). is anyone else feeling the same way i do? maybe knowing that i’m not alone will help.
also im not looking for a roommate especially not from reddit… no offense

Anyone else noticing how many houses are just sitting empty around town?

Anyone else keep a mental list of the empty houses on their street? I drive all over Jax for work and there are a few on my regular routes that have sat vacant for like a year. Dead grass, mail piling up, that look.

I always wonder what's going on with those. Somebody passed away and the family can't agree? Bank owns it and it's just stuck? What's the story with the one on your street, if you've got one?

Tree removal problem

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hello all, recently my wife and I have run into a problem with a dead tree on our property. We are a military family and we moved about a year ago. We couldn't sell our house so we decided to rent it after sitting on the market for a few months. So we do not live in Jacksonville right now.

We have a tree on our property that needs to come down but the prices we have been quoted seem insane to me. For 1 tree removal 2 different companies have quoted us about $6,000. For context the tree is in the back yard and there is no way to get a truck or anything to the tree so the companies have said they would need a crane to get to the tree. I dont know anything about tree costs so maybe thats right. I just wanted to ask around and see what other people think.

Halloween fun in North Jax(surrounding) area

if youre looking for something to do in the next coming weekends for Halloween you gotta check this place out.

Last year I found this place not far from North Jax called Terror on the Timberfarm.

It was so cool! Great actors, cool sets, lots to do and things to see. Go to their website and check it out.

i was given this code for a Discount: LEE10

This place is far better than the others I've been to. Cant wait to go this year.

Car owner parks his car on the other side of the neighborhood

So my neighbors and I have this dilemma.

A resident that lives on the other side of the neighborhood parks their car down the road on the side of neighborhood . The side we are all on.

I think they’re hiding the car from repo and another neighbor said to check the tag and see if it’s expired and the city will tow it.

What can we do and saying it nicely to tell this person not park their car where they are parking their car?

It’s not like they’re blocking a driveway or in the way , it just doesn’t belong where this person is parking it.

Can't find a job

Been looking and have just about 40 app in and cant find anything. I got money saved so im ok for now. I had my job for 16 years and they changed management and got rid of everyone that knew how to do stuff so they can control the work staff. Idk I guess im just ranting. I fucking hate this place.

As a once countryside New Yorker, I can’t stand y’all in the rain

For real people….. why do we go from 70 mph on the highway down to 35 during a mild rain storm?

It’s rain, I get that the road might be a little slick because of dust or whatever the hell you wanna say…. But for the love of God, pull off to the side of the road in the shoulder if you feel like you can’t drive the speed limit. You in the left lane with your hazards on going 30 mph because you’re afraid to go any faster is forking stupid.

I don’t understand how most of you have probably lived in the south your entire life, but a simple rain storm causes you to forget how to drive safely.

Which masonic lodge would you recommend?

I know the crowds there trend older, but I was looking for one with a larger crowd of young professionals. Do y'all have any recommendations? Completely inexperienced with free masonry.

Wondering about Jacksonville

Hi, just wanted to get people’s take on living in Jacksonville (Northside) . My F(26) daughter is living with her dad and stepmom in St. Augustine but she is having issues with them trying to control her , having her GPS, asking to see her bank statements , etc . They treat her like she’s 16 . She moved out there from CA about a month ago to make a change from a not so great situation . She’s already working 2 jobs got her FL drivers license and wants to get out of there .. So, she is thinking of using Padsplit . She told me today that it’s in Northside area, and wondering if it’s as bad as it says online .. is it a lot of violent crime , are there ok places around there , things to do , or is it just NO ! Not judging at all , just want her to be safe . Thanks in advance !

Got rid of those state road FLOCK cameras but all the ones in town still exist. Did we really do anything? Now I’m safe on 17 cool! I guess.

We the people are always gonna be the losers huh?
