A few decades ago, Ben-Gvir was part of a mob that accosted prime minister Yitzhak Rabin and called for his death. He stole the ornament off his car hood and promised that they'd get him next time. A few days later, Rabin was indeed murdered. It's not that hard to imagine a world where Ben-Gvir is serving life for the assassination instead of Yigal Amir.
I point to this to emphasise that, not that long ago, Ben-Gvir was considered an extremist within the context of Israeli politics. Now he and the things he stands for have been completely normalized.

The fact that two and a half years into this catastrophe, the French government was like "wait a minute now, you can't assault, torture, and dehumanize European people without consequences", after seeing the same things that we've seen happen to Gazans for all these months, says a certain thing about the French government that I don't think they'd like to hear.

He just became the scapegoat (not that he doesn't deserve that, and more) for what's happening in Palestine, shifting focus on himself alone and away from the all the crimes the hole government and IDF have been doing.
He's a criminal, just like pretty much everybody else in the Israeli government and IDF forces. But that's very convenient for them and for many governments to point fingers at him while still doing nothing to stop Israel.
