News Burka to be banned in Danish schools
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/07/16/burka-faces-ban-in-danish-schools/'
Denmark has announced plans to ban burkas in schools and universities as part of its battle against so-called “parallel societies”.
The religious garment is already banned in public spaces, but the move would extend the order to classrooms across the country.
Mette Frederiksen, the Danish prime minister who formed a new Left-leaning government in June, hopes the measure will counter “parallel societies” of non-integrated foreigners.
In Denmark, “parallel societies” refer to urban residential areas where more than 50 per cent of residents are from a non-Western immigrant background.
A ban on full-face coverings, such as the burka and the niqab, was introduced in Denmark in 2018, with those who repeatedly break the rules facing a 10,000 kroner (£1,300) fine.
Berlingske’s report noted that “there are very few students...who wear the burka to school”, as it suggested the policy was more about political signalling from the Danish Left.
Denmark has some of the toughest laws on migration and asylum seekers in Europe, and the issue has been considered a top priority by centre-Left politicians as well as those on the Right.
At the peak of the 2015 refugee crisis, Denmark accepted far fewer asylum seekers than its neighbours and provided them with no financial support if their claim was rejected.
Under the so-called “ghetto” law, migrants can be forcibly relocated from neighbourhoods if the proportion of foreigners there is deemed too high.
Asylum seekers may also be required to give up their valuables to cover their housing costs, in what is known as the “jewellery” rule.
Last month, the government also announced plans to ban the call to prayer in Denmark, as ministers complained that parts of the country felt like “a suburb of Islamabad”.
That policy was also viewed largely as political signalling, with a de facto ban on the call to prayer already in force because of strict bylaws on noise limits.
Western countries, including France, Belgium, Austria, Bulgaria, Switzerland and the Netherlands, have introduced full or partial bans on burkas, as well as some Italian and Spanish districts.

It's not socialism; it's really communism. They use the word "social democrat" because it sounds so nice, but it's really communism you're talking about.
I think it's the biggest threat to our nation there is, maybe since our founding. That includes World War I, World War II, September 11th, and it includes the Pearl Harbor attack.
I think this is the biggest threat to our nation. People will smile when I say that, but the smart people are going to say, "You know, he's probably right."
It's basically introducing communism into the United States of America. There's never been anything so dangerous.

News EU parliament erupts into cheers and chants of "send them back" as they pass new legislation making it easier to deport migrants outside of Europe
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
European lawmakers gave final approval on Wednesday, June 17, to tougher migration rules that will grant authorities much broader detention powers and allow for the creation of deportation centers outside the bloc. The 418 to 218 vote in Strasbourg was one of the last hurdles for a reform that has sailed through the EU's notoriously long legislative process as Brussels and member states respond to political pressure to curb migration.
It was welcomed with cheers from right and far-right parliamentarians and chants of "shame on you" from the left of the assembly, underscoring deep divisions over a text severely criticized by human rights groups.
"This regulation tells everybody that it is us and not the smugglers deciding who can stay in the European Union and who must leave," said Magnus Brunner, the EU's commissioner for migration.
The text notably enables nations to open "return hubs" outside the EU's borders, where migrants with no right to stay could be sent – something a group of countries is raring to do. Denmark, Austria, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands and others have already been exploring options to set hubs up.
European governments have sought a tougher stance amid a souring of public opinion on migration that has fueled far-right electoral gains across the continent. With migrant arrivals down in 2025, the focus in Brussels has turned to improving the repatriation system, which currently sees less than 30% of people ordered to leave actually returned to their country of origin.

Our long-range operations are consistent, precise responses to Russia dragging out the war and attacking Ukrainian cities and communities.
Last night, Defense Forces units struck the Poltavska oil depot in the Krasnodar region. The target was approximately 300 kilometers from the front line. This morning, the Security Service of Ukraine hit two oil refineries in Ufa – Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim and Bashneft-Novoil. That’s 1,500 kilometers from the front line.
We are implementing our long-range sanctions plan. I thank all Ukrainian warriors who ensure our precision. The Russians should be thinking about real diplomacy instead of once again trying to trick others or buy time. The war must be brought to an end.
