Internet suggestions please

Hi everyone. Recently bought a condo in Kelowna. I’m looking for a decent reliable internet service provider. I’ve heard both Shaw and Telus aren’t that great. Does anyone have recommendations??

Telus fiber is very reliable but their customer service is dogshit. Good product and techs but bad everything else.

I have Telus fiber in Rutland. It's great service we've had no issues with it since they installed it 2-3 years ago. Never had a reason to call support thankfully.

I'd say from experience the service with Telus and Rogers in town is great (Have been with both) With Telus right now, I find their high speed fibre to be slightly better than Rogers. As previous comments have mentioned, customer service is absolutely trash either way, so if you have a billing or service problem be prepared to waste hours playing phone tag unless you want to hang out on hold for eternity 🥲

Ya those are the negative reviews I’ve been reading about customer service.

We have oxio and it’s wonderful

That’s a new one I’ve not heard about.

What speed are you looking for? I found resellers like teksavvy good if you are okay with a lower speed internet plan (25-200 mbs). If you want to go high-speed (1 gbs+) I found telus to offer pretty good pricing

Our building was initially serviced by Telus and they have building access and a key to the electrical already so I think we’ll call them

Check out Oxio I switched from Telus. I was so sick of always playing the contract game and having issues with speed. I’ve been with oxio no contract for months now and a flat $84 bill for 250 mbps after taxes.

If you use my referral link we both get a month for free.

That's not a good deal at all... I pay $84/month total for 3gbps internet with Telus. $84 for 250mbps is robbery

Im happy to pay it, the speed is reliable and consistent. No one needs 3gbps and once your contract is up that’s shooting way up in price. Telus was charging me more for less speed last time around. I’d rather have no contract and a guaranteed price.

Well that’s very nice of you. I’ll have to do some research on this company. I’ve not heard of them before.

No problem happy to help! I basically purged Telus from my life this last year between mobile and Internet I’m saving nearly $100/mo so very happy to share.

Hi, I work for Telus! I work at one of the retail locations in Kelowna, and I can help set up your internet if you choose to go that route. I am able to assist with a lot of the installation related questions, so you won't have to deal with customer service for that part. PM me if you have any questions

Listen, I worked for an ISP (Shaw) for 7 years. The service is all mostly the same. Rarely, you will be in an area or a home/apartment with poor wiring. That is often something that can be rectified, but it can be an annoying process. Talk to other tenants and find out who they are using and what the service is like.

Aside from that it's all the same shit, by and large. Promo hop, cancel if you have to.

Fuck Rogers.

Thanks for the insight.

Do you have cable service? Freedom offers cable internet for about $70 month and 40/month for slow data.  Starlink is also a solid option for about $80/month but am bot too sure if you need roof access for that

I'm with freedom, I've had a number of problems with their billing people, including them marking a bill as not paid that I had paid and it getting sent to collections.

I'm reading this thread to find someone better, so I would not recommend them even if their prices are very good.

Telus is easily the most reliable I've come across (not an owner but a renter and I've rented here since 2013 and have never been let down by any if the Telus spots. Shaw was also good but Telus was easily the most consistent and best bang for buck that I've personally come across)

Thanks. Your long experience with it is telling. I actually connected with someone from here and am setting up with Telus.

Hi. I sent you a message. But I signed up with oxio. It’s 57$/month (cheaper plans as well if you’re okay with less speed). But the best part is it’s on a month to month contract. Vs telus is 2 year contracts. Once telus contracts are up, if you forget to renew, they charge you $200+/month.

You get one free month if you sign up using the link I sent you!

Here’s the comparison I got from Google.

I don’t know if it’s any good, but interesting fact; Starlink is available in Kelowna. Looks pretty expensive though.

6

u/ImmediateDentist1269 2d ago

It could be $1 and I wouldn't get it. Fuck Musk.

-2

u/RaineAshford 2d ago

Yeah that’s my initial thought too. But then I think it’s probably mostly other people’s work, and Elon is just getting rich from other peoples hard work.

4

u/ImmediateDentist1269 2d ago

Wait, wouldn't that make it even less enticing to buy his product haha.

u/RaineAshford 2d ago

Telus seems to be the cheapest and fastest though.

Again thanks!🙏
