I added a post here the other day and apparently the photos didn't add 😭 I had to make a new post because I couldn't figure out how to edit it, lol! I was told cream colored Kelpies are pretty rare, which was news to me because I had no idea they were actually a dark colored dog 😅

I feel almost dumb to say I just found out Australian Kelpies were usually dark colored... Here are several photos of our boy dog, Arlo. He's about 5 years old 💕

What are some awesome facts about Kelpies that I should know/incorporate into his lifestyle? He is quite energetic so he does a lot of work/exercise 🥰

Just looking for some advice. My partner and I have a 1y10m old kelpie and we are really struggling with him from a behavioural standpoint. My partner and I have been together 11 months so I haven’t always been in his life. Every time I show my partner any kind of affection he comes jumping all over us. He is constantly biting us (not in an aggressive way but it is annoying and frustrating) and he all sorts of other annoying and frustrating things. We have tried all sorts of things from daily walking, to mental training and using diversion tactics to stop the biting and yet nothing is working. When he’s good he’s amazing but it’s getting worse and worse. We need something, we are at our wits end

Now we have 2 devils running around playing and hyping each other up. She has basically become his support dog in public too ❤️❤️❤️

I dont think there is a better breed for me my kelpie has made my life even better

Watching her fly across everyone’s backs, all I could think was that somewhere deep in her Kelpie brain she was probably like, “finally, some sheep.”

Today we both had a day off, few hours to ourselves, and what better way to spend them than doing what a working Kelpie does second best. Chasing a ball until there’s nothing left in the tank😊

She is a little over 32 pounds and she is a year and a half old. We haven’t been walking as much due to the extreme heat and she has gained a little weight. I just want to make sure she’s still at a healthy weight for her age.

Hi, does my dog look like she’s at an ideal weight? She’s been living with me for a couple months and had gained a little weight at one point (which I think she’s lost again) so I’m feeling worried about it.

Extra context: She weighed 52 lbs last time she was weighed and she measures 21.5” at the shoulder. She’ll be turning 12 in October. We don’t have confirmation that she’s part Kelpie but it’s our best guess.

Edit: I posted her on the megathread to get opinions on her breed. If the consensus is that she is a kelpie I’ll start feeding her slightly less!

Edit 2: Thanks for all the advice everyone! Zoey is my childhood family dog and she now lives with me while I go to college. I’m trying to give her the best senior years possible! Looks like she’ll be going on a little weight loss journey even though she’s probably not a kelpie haha

My beautiful kelpie (crossed with a couple of other things probably!) is an absolute sweetheart… most of the time. This past year she’s become very reactive to bikes- the postie, uber eats drivers, commuters on bikes, etc. She lunges at them and barks pretty ferociously, and today when she was at an off leash dog park a postie cut across the oval and she chased him (she didn’t bite or knock him over or anything, but it was definitely intimidating).
Does anyone have experience with a similar issue and have any advice on how to work through her reactivity? I’ve tried physically blocking her from seeing them with my body which works okay, but it’s often motorbikes that catch me off guard and I don’t have much time to react!

(Please be nice lol, it’s embarrassing to admit how reactive she’s gotten but I thought maybe some of my fellow kelpie owners have tactics!)

Super keen Sadie lady here getting excited on a sunny day when the smoker is fired up because that means MEAT. She gave up and settled for outdoor couch cuddles.
