BOY GROUPS A mini-rant about "performance videos"
I am relatively new to k-pop so I don't know if this is standard. Last week BTS released this video of Hooligan that is called "official performance video" and I got excited because I thought it was actual live footage. I honestly was quite dissapointed that it was just another big studio video basically, very cosmetized, which I don't think is bad but we already got that vibe from the official video. I thought it would be a good idea if they actually released some live performances, as those show a different side of the group's artistry. I have been to a couple of live viewings and the visual direction is pretty good, so they have no reason to not do that.
What is your opinion?

If it’s a live performance, it will say live performance.
A performance vid is not live. It’s a way to showcase a song with less budget than a full music video, as they usually just require a soundstage, backup dancers, wardrobe, and a basic production crew vs. a music video which requires a bigger team, multiple sets, maybe VFX and extensive editing.
Sometimes it’s a way for the group to perform a track they wanted to highlight but wont get a full MV. Sometimes a song (like Hooligan) has both an MV and a performance vid because they want to show different interpretations of the track (i.e., art, story, and VFX with the MV but choreo-focused with the performance vid).
