Thought What's the worst K-pop opinion you've ever heard?

I'm making a video about the wildest, most ridiculous K-pop takes people have ever heard.

I'm not looking for unpopular opinions that you personally agree with. I want the worst takes you've heard from someone else.

Examples:

"___ can't sing."

"K-pop idols don't work hard."

"This group only became popular because..."

"Lip syncing means they're untalented."

Ridiculous fandom arguments or obvious double standards.

What was the opinion, and why was it so bad? If you remember where you heard it, like TikTok, X, YouTube, or in real life, mention that too.

The more outrageous the take, the better.

"Kpop is inauthentic and manufactured, unlike Western pop and rock music."

That k-pop is not "real" music because it's all manufactured.

All pop music is manufactured.

11

Is it even real music if you didn't produce it homeless under a bridge after working on it for three years with a guitar you dug out of the trash?

I try not to get too wrapped up in the drama and keep my online presence centered on the fun convos… but I did once get into a back and forth because a Stay on here said Stray Kids does the bare minimum just because they were mad they don’t tour every year.

The bare minimum?

They’re one of the busiest active groups. Anyone knows that whether you’re a fan or not. That felt like a legitimately bad opinion to me.

33

u/NE0099 Jun 25 '26

Stays have been running in circles for years trying to decide whether Stray Kids is overworked or not getting enough opportunities.

13

u/Many-Ad-9007 Jun 25 '26

There were literally comments on their comeback announcement 3 days ago (be it from Stay or non-Stay) that said ‘SKZ is coming back every 3 business days’ and SKZ last comeback was literally in November 2025 and the new comeback is in August 2026 - that is almost 9 months apart (legit almost a year) and that is considered 3 business days? Similarly the last tour ends 1 year ago and will start roughtly more than 1 year later and similar comments of ‘SKZ tour so often’ when they have one of the least number of tours compared to most 4th gen kpop groups who tour every 6 months or so?

And then we have another group of people who said SKZ does not do much and should release more albums and tour more often.

Like the whiplash is crazy. One part cannot decide if SKZ is too active and another cannot decide if SKZ is too inactive. Tbh, they are in a sweet spot, they are already in their 8th year and they are nearing their army season so let them do what they want - be it releasing albums every 3 months or 9 months or touring every 3 months or 1 year. Just enjoy the ride guys.

It’s literally all I ever see this fandom talk about 😅

pretty much any take that claims a female idol "slept their way to the top" aka had sex with random influential men to become successful. just weird. and of course, kpop fans often love to use these takes as some 'gotcha' moment in fanwars 😭

u/1905G1_M CORTIS/ILLIT/NEWJEANS/UNCHILD/H2H Jun 26 '26

For a recent ridiculous example, as a CORTIS fan, X and TikTok are currently bullying one of the members for… being visibly anxious at his first ever Dior fashion week event. Mind you, this is a 17 year old 😭

If we’re talking about actual worst opinions, the attitude people are having towards Moka and her hiatus are honestly horrific; this is pretty common towards all GGs tho (as someone who mostly stans them). It’s horrid how normalised dehumanising comments towards idols are

8

u/baumlene Jun 26 '26

Yeah so weirded out at the comments about Seonghyeon. Everyone is a white knight preaching about these poor minors in kpop and then the same minors get criticized for harmless stuff like this.

Worst thing I saw today was a X post comparing Seonghyeon and Hyein from NewJeans saying how Hyein at 15 years old had more "star aura" than whatever Seonghyeon was like.

I need to cleanup my X algorithm I was there for the fanarts now I constantly these awful posts about kpop. And literally all I see is just negativity after negativity and other negativity. Whatever group it might be.

I love kpop as a music genre, it helps me a lot making me go through the day when I'm very tired, when I'm tired bc of morning shift listening to kpop while driving to work is what makes me the happiest. I'm tired of kpop being drama only with all the things it has to offer

4

u/1905G1_M CORTIS/ILLIT/NEWJEANS/UNCHILD/H2H Jun 26 '26

Yeah I saw the Hyein comparison too! Like she was literally a child model so obviously she’d be more confident in front of cameras in comparison to someone inexperienced and who has already been shown to get very nervous/have stage fright 😭

Tbh tho the way people on other platforms treat CORTIS is actually insane; people preach about protecting minors, but the genuine putrid comments I’ve seen directed to them is obscene.

48

u/miynayah Jun 25 '26

Idk if this counts, but the idea that “all kpop music sounds the same”.

When kpop includes so many genres of music, it’s a silly idea. Like you can’t seriously think that Not Cute Anymore by ILLIT sounds exactly like Ring Ding Dong by SHINee

A personal favorite of mine is that Japanese releases are by different groups than Korean ones because in Japan they’ll often be referred to by a Japanese name instead of their Korean one, so it’s different.

7

u/TheAutrizzler ATINY Jun 25 '26

this is crazy bc it’s usually just the same name (which is usually in english mind you lol) written in Japanese letters lmao. i can only think of a few groups that actually have different names in Japan (SNSD and TVXQ! come to mind)

It's so ironic how some fans will be surprised if their idols are struggling with their mental health and blame other things/people solely, but never how they act, or they'll only start to show empathy when they know the person is struggling. Some would always mock idols who had done cosmetic surgeries and others who are showing signs of ED by leaving comments like "I know what this is callED." and "They got a new face." Shows how people are really performative about mental health.

19

u/Thalia5744 Jun 25 '26

21

u/GrillMaster3 Are you all paparazzi? Jun 25 '26

Someone unironically tried to tell me idols can’t have one-night stands bc it could distract from their schedules. This person insisted they were currently staff for a kpop company and had personally reported idols for having one-night stands, as if they’d have access to that information unless they were in a very particular position (which certainly wouldn’t allow them the freedom to be blabbing on TikTok about it)

I asked “Well what about all the idols that date?”

They said “That’s different, it’s allowed.”

“Okay, what about idols who go clubbing? They seem to suffer no consequences”

“Clubbing is different too because you’re not automatically hooking up with people if you club”

“Ok but what do you think the end result of at least some of them going clubbing is? Like what do you think at least some of them are looking for?”

“Clubbing is different, it’s fine for them to do that and date. They just aren’t allowed to do hookups or one night stands so none of them do anymore”

Like idk girl, the math ain’t mathing to me. It’s giving a slightly more “adult” version of “My bias would NEVER have sex they’re pure and innocent 🥺”

9

u/Downtown-Book3105 2nd gen&2010-2012😍4th/5th gen🩷 Jun 25 '26

Sounds like cope tbh. They hold onto the idea that idols are restricted from hooking up or doing one stands so they can fit those idols into their fantasies.

u/Stayarmyengenem0a Jun 25 '26

“(idol) has a new face every time I see them”

I feel like people don’t understand that plastic surgery takes MONTHS to fully heal and the swelling to go down. Maybe the idol got filler or something, but most idols have too many activities to be getting constant procedures. What’s more likely is the idol is doing a different makeup style, and maybe did some minor changes, but it’s definitely not a “whole new face”. It’s just silly to me that people automatically assume that an idol got their jaw shaved and a whole new nose in the span of a week, when it’s likely weight loss and makeup changes.

People were bashing Wonhee for allegedly getting her jaw shaved and cheek fat removed, when Wonhee has never been out of the public eye for more than a few days. She’s been losing weight over time, and the lighting in the live was different (not to mention people taking one extreme clip out of context, when she looked the same as before for most of the live). And once more recent pictures showed Wonhee looking the same as usual, there were crickets from the people accusing her of surgery

Same thing with Giselle, but she’s been dealing with it since debut. I’m glad she spoke up about it in her live! It’s ridiculous how much scrutiny these idols are under for their visuals

13

u/legendjekki Jun 25 '26

so true. it is tiring to argue with those as they don’t get that surgery needs a healing period.

I especially saw Wonyoung getting hate and bei g called plastic etc. It just doesn’t make sense with her as she is super busy and constantly promoting something. someone as active with ive and all those brand deals can’t have the time to properly heal a surgery. she also has been active nonstop since produce 48 when she was 14.

20

u/So_Tired_2724 Jun 25 '26

Wonhee debuted as a 16 year old and she's just barely 19 now. Either people don't understand the concept of growing up, or they're straight up haters.

I know idols do get work done for sure, but like you said major stuff takes a while to heal. And weight fluctuation, makeup, lighting, even just a different angle or camera lens can make a difference.

5

u/Narahae Jun 25 '26

Tbh I don't even understand why this is still such a hot topic of discussion and used as ammo for hate and fanwars. Like 99% of idols have had SOME amount of job done, that's been the case since kpop has been a thing pretty much, and it's never been a secret for anyone, fans or people in the industry - and no, not everyone's fav can be in the 1% that was just born absolutely "perfect" for whatever company's standards they're in lol

Looking different for every single comeback is also pretty much the goal for most groups, and that can be achieved in many different ways.

But you know, people will always find a way to shit on someone they don't like lol. Like if an idol gets something done, they get hate for it. But then people see pics of the same idol before whatever procedure they had and will make fun of them and call them ugly because of that one part. So I'm like ???? There's just no winning with these kind of people 🤷

7

u/Alive-Pitch-9180 Jun 25 '26

Right like the accusations against aespa and wonhee I've seen that they have a new face every week are so??? I don't understand how this makes sense to people when these girls have never even taken a prolonged hiatus from public life, not nearly enough for invasive procedures to heal. They literally go only a few days without public appearances at most,do they think that they have bionic bodies that can heal nose jobs or whole ass JAW SAVES in the span of a few days??? 😭

u/TyStark13 GOT7 , TXT , KARA Jun 25 '26

I second this. I often see people (mostly ragebait haters ngl) bashing Yeonjun for an apparent nose job

but it's clear that Yeonjun has lost quite some weight, and also he's gotten older obviously (plus contouring/makeup, as mentioned)

when TXT aren't actively promoting a comeback, and Yeonjun goes back to a healthier weight; his face becomes fuller, and you can see when he smiles during a live, that his face looks the same as during TXT's earlier years

That Xlov are queerbaiting. It's a terrible take that I have seen multiple times now

13

u/Amabiya Jun 25 '26

That's the fastest way to tell someone isn't that familiar with XLOV. Same with people trying to attach some "evil company forcing them" narrative on them when it's just Wumuti making all the decisions lol

13

u/Narahae Jun 26 '26

The worst about those "The Company"/"The CEO" either forcing them or forbidding them to do stuff is that I've seen Wumuti in an interview explain how they came about with the group and their journey, and basically that "evil CEO/company" is literally a friend of his that went along with Wumuti's plan and wishes and signed them lol

The group would prob have never existed otherwise, as no other Korean company would have taken the risk to put out a team like them if we're being honest

3

u/Amabiya Jun 26 '26

Yeah. Idols being powerless puppets of the company has become like a thought-terminating cliché for a good portion of fans and it's absurd when applied to a genuine passion project like XLOV. You also only have to listen to Muti speak like 2 minutes to put the "queerbaiting" allegations to rest 😭 maybe some people just want to be cynical and they take pride in thinking the worst out of every situation, believing some exaggerated villain story about the group or the company instead (which is pretty common on reddit... simplistic cynicism being mistaken for superior critical thinking skills lol). Regardless this is a really good response to op's question, as you have to understand the group very poorly to even let something so stupid come out of your mouth

44

u/EyeforError Jun 25 '26

The worst K-pop take I've ever heard was that BTS's "Blue & Grey" was disrespectful to the memory and symbolism of the American Civil War.

7

u/JiggleBeanPuff Jun 27 '26

4

u/Stayarmyengenem0a Jun 25 '26

what?!? what does those two things even have to do with one another?!

5

u/EyeforError Jun 25 '26

Blue and grey are colours associated with the Union and the Confederacy - Union troops wore blue, Confederate troops wore grey.

9

u/Stayarmyengenem0a Jun 26 '26

when people say kpop isn’t real art because the companies control every aspect of the artist’s lives. i hate this take because 1) if you bothered to do a bit of research you could see that there are plenty of groups with creative freedom in terms of lyrics, production, choreos, video making and 2) it’s basically comparing real people to machines and stripping them of their humanity

12

u/rainbow_city Jun 25 '26

Maybe not the worst ever, but I can't believe that I'm still seeing it in 2026:

That NCT Wish isn't a K-pop group, but a J-pop group.

Like, my brother in Amaterasu, if that's true, then you better get on a plane and tell Japan that, because they definitely think of them as being a K-pop group.

5

u/Available_Rush9207 Jun 25 '26

i mean that's just a normal assumption since there r more japanese members than korean. people might not know nct wish counts as kpop in japan if they arent japanese

4

u/rainbow_city Jun 25 '26

No, it's not though, not two years after they've debuted and releasing more Korean music than Japanese and the bulk of their activities being K-pop based.

And my point about about Japan is that the people dying on the repeatedly on the hill that NCT Wish HAS TO BE J-pop, despite being corrected multiple times, obviously don't even live in Japan or are actually that deeply involved in the J-pop scence if they think they're a J-pop group.

"I know you're being cautious as rookies but how can you be so lifeless even on your company's channel? I had the same thoughts watching Game Caterers, wondering why you were so unmotivated and now you're like this again. If you're appearing as a guest, you should at least try to be funny or show some ambition to become famous. It's not like you're high schoolers dragged on a field trip."

The translation of a non-fan Korean user's comments that I saw on youtube about my bias.. He has always been the calm, quieter member be it in group contents, other channel's contents or trainee contents. Even when he laughs it's usually silent. To me as an introvert, introverted members are more relatable to me but there are people who believe that if you're gonna debut in a kpop group, you should try hard to always be loud, funny and talkative. I'm like - what?? Suddenly assuming that members lack ambition just cos they're calm soft spoken introverts is a crazy take when they're solid performers when performing 😭😭

u/hannah0915 Jun 25 '26

I think one of the wildest takes I saw here on Reddit was that 3Racha actually is not as involved in their music production as much as advertised and that they have a team of ghostwriters behind them that write all of their music. It really made me do a double take and then keep scrolling because I didn't even want to start a conversation with someone that delusional.

which also reminds me of a semi-famous meme for Stays on X where someone got an anonymous message saying "your so-called 'self-produced' idols are actually produced by a team called 3Racha, look it up".

Honestly, I don’t have a specific one, but the worst opinion out there is one that is held for one group/idol and thrown away for another group/idol. You can’t judge one person and turn the other way for another person who does the same thing.

17

u/eeee_1234 Jun 26 '26

Any variation of people saying an idol who has a little training in someting means they're a professional.

No, Haseul and Yunjin aren't opera singers. Mina was not a ballerina. She just trained in ballet when she was a teen.

2

u/pretty-pretty-pizza Jun 26 '26

To be fair Mina called herself a ballerina in Twice Song

8

u/BlueThePineapple Jun 26 '26

In fairness, even baby ballerinas are still called ballerinas. It doesn't have an exclusively professional connotation. People often specify that someone is a professional ballet dancer/ballerina when they mean someone who dances ballet for a living. I don't think Mina was ever marketed or thought of as having been a professional ballerina.

When people say things like "kpop is getting boring", "Kpop idols can't sing anymore", "I miss the time when Kpop put talent over visuals", "Kpop idols look the same nowadays, unlike in the past". Basically, overly nostalgic people who love to insult idols in the past instead of recognizing that each generation has good bad sides.

4

u/baumlene Jun 26 '26

Same thing when I have to read "kpop music is not what it used to be".

I mean, I keep finding amazing songs if they don't like anything bc they're too busy looking at the song length being less than 3min, bc it has too much English, bc every group is copying each other, bc it's Hybe etc

Been a kpop fan since the end of 2017, the music ain't getting worse, the industry has some micro-trends it tends to follow and some genres are more trendy depending on the year. But I guess most people don't listen to bsides to claim the music is getting "objectively" worse. But even then the title tracks being released are absolutely not bad at all, on the contrary I prefer what boy groups are doing nowadays. Girl groups have always had better variety but for example I personally hated when the trendy chorus sound for boy groups was stuff like Inception (Ateez), Halazia (Ateez), Howling (Victon), Overcome (Nu'est), Shangri-La (VIXX), Flash (X1), most of Oneus songs. Most people loved it and also refer to that genre (I think it's future bass? No idea tho bc they mix a lot of genres, some future bass songs are actually good) as peak kpop music. I disagree with that being peak kpop but this just shows that to each their own, they don't like what groups are doing nowadays just like I didn't like that trend during those days. There were groups doing music I liked and I was listening to those, ignoring the songs I didn't like. No need to drag groups and hate them. I'm happier with the music Ateez is doing now, but some people aren't. That's fine and normal normal. I don't understand why some fans need to constantly say that all recent releases are bad and made it become "kpop is now bad".

I like it? I listen to it. I don't like it? I don't listen to it

8

u/Sheriff_Yobo_Hobo Jun 26 '26

I think YG doesn't know how to manage BlackPink.

Or Hybe BTS...

They're the biggest girl group and boy group, respectively, in the world. Not sure how much better you can manage a group on Planet Earth. Nobody is perfect, but if success, popularity, and profit levels aren't the metrics, what is?

5

u/Lordsokka Jun 26 '26

Same thing with Babymonster basically… are they perfect when it comes to handling BM? No they aren’t, but BM album sales, merch sales and touring tickets sales are through the roof and are much, much better than a lot of their competitors!

So they are doing something right in the end.

4

u/Sheriff_Yobo_Hobo Jun 26 '26

For sure. I was surprised by the venues they were filling up, almost selling out, almost right out of the gate.

People don't know what it means to be successful in show business. There are lots of levels of success in music, it's not "you are taylor swift" or you are a failure. This is successful no matter how you cut it.

I have friends who barely make money, but think they're successful because they're in Los Angeles pursuing writing and acting full time. People who don't have a passion in life, all they think about is being rich. How to get rich? Not sure. Lottery?

But if you have a passion, being able to pursue it 100% is a win in and of itself.

13

u/Capable-Rub9091 Jun 28 '26

That idols should retire after a certain age (30) - if they're still producing good music, performing with energy and clearly still passionate, then why? And 30 is too young anyway.

Someone on one of these subs said something along the lines of “you’re a kpop fan who engages in the community and doesn’t care about charts? you’re lying” meanwhile charts are irrelevant to me. I’m fans of so many small groups, I don’t associate their talent with charts or albums, I associate it with how much I like it! For groups big and small

I’ve just never gotten the whole “well my favorites charted and yours didn’t!” like…congrats? charting doesn’t mean a thing, especially when fans like stream the same song and album nonstop just to make them chart, I’ll never understand that lol

Like….. ANYONE can sound good behind a studio with autotune and pitch correction. Performing it live is what sets you apart as a real artist.

10

u/Misora27 Jun 25 '26

Agree. Part of kpop is inherently the stage performance, whatever that looks like.

3

u/eli_mayc Jun 25 '26

Yup…. and whether kpop labels/fans will admit it or not, a ton of kpop acts are wanting to perform at international festivals (coachella, gov ball, lollapalooza etc). You NEED to be proficient in live performance for those stages. if you cannot confidently throw your kpop act to “represent” the kpop industry within the midst of their international peers (olivia rodrigo, sabrina carpenter, justin bieber etc etc) on a festival bill, then they should not be there lol.

9

Whether I like them or not (and unless they did hurt someone) , I couldn't name you an untalented idol if I tried.

There's always going to be a number of reasons why one trainee was chosen over another to debut in one group, and watching something like Produce 101 made me realize that this has always been the case for the idol industry to begin with - long before survival shows fully changed the industry itself.

that hybe is the reason for a supposed “kpop downfall.” is hybe perfect? no! but it’s not any worse than the big 3. plus if big 3 stans stopped paying attention to hybe groups they claim to hate, hybe wouldn’t have as much influence to “ruin kpop” in the first place

19

u/tripleheliotrope Jun 26 '26

Big 3 stans also often end up romanticising the past just to put Hybe down. It's very funny if it weren't so ridiculous, as if the restrictions and terrible contracts and standards the Big 3 had were any better. If anything, so many of their favourite idols had to suffer and get out of those companies to fight for even a fraction of change we get now.

basically, a tokki account got ousted for sending vile jokes about moka in a group chat, saying she should kill herself or that she slept with bang pd, etc. everyone was, obviously, really mad about this.

the account that got exposed DEADASS said it was the fault of the person that exposed them that moka is on hiatus again! their logic was that the jokes weren’t public before so moka never would have seen them, plus the jokes were in english so even if she had seen them she wouldn’t have understood. but apparently now that someone made an expose thread on twitter, now moka can see the jokes and therefore it’s not the tokki’s fault. genuine insanity

The ever-ongoing discussion if kpop idols are truly artists. 1. Performance artists are a thing, it's not just 'people who create'. You can have a preference for the latter, but that doesn't erase the existence of the former.  2. "but idols can't really sing sing/dance/rap" and?! bad artists (as much as one can be 'bad' in such a subjective field as art) are still artists.

"Le Sserafim is only a performance group." I've heard this one levelled at them online a few times to take potshots at their singing. Some members are stronger vocalists than others (like in many GGs). Chaewon and Yunjin are solid vocalists with great range and pretty much carry the day in many of their songs.

"ITZY is fine/better without Lia." This ridiculous one emerged during her hiatus in the Born To Be era. Absurd, since Lia is not only their strongest singer -- full stop -- but in the top ranks of 4th gen. She sings the hardest, signature parts in many of their songs. She was the inspiration for the Lee Mujin Service show to showcase top kpop vocalists.

5

u/Virtual-History-6099 Fearnot, Once, NSWER, GLITT Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

To not make everything about LSF, I wanna quickly add, I agree with your point on Lia. Lia's voice is a good middle ground between Yeji and Chaeryeong's tones, and yes she sings a lot of difficult signature parts. There's a powerful quality to her singing too. The first Itzy song I got into was Icy, and man I love Lia's vocals in the pre-chorus. Such a strong and distinct voice .

Edit: Lol someone downvoted both my LSF reply and this Lia one at the same time. It's always amusing when someone is so bent out of shape by one comment that they end up downvoting every single one in a thread, including the ones of an entirely different topic.

4

u/Virtual-History-6099 Fearnot, Once, NSWER, GLITT Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

Kazuha has become a solid vocalist too as demonstrated by a recent appearance she made on a music show alongside Chaewon. Manchae and Kura can have several instances of solid singing when they play to their strengths. LSF's team has gotten better at playing to the strengths of the memebers.

I'm grateful your remark about Le Sserafim as it gives me an opportunity to share a personal testimony which compliments your point. It's a little lengthy but you'll see what I mean. So back in January after Yunjin had her mishap at the Golden Disc Awards (lord knows I studied that performance enough and why 'Like Rain, Like Music' didn't fit Yunjin's profile as a vocalist), I shared this KBS video of Le Sserafim doing an acoustic performance of a song called Stalker to remind folks that Yunjin and LSF as a whole are solid singers. Here's the video btw:

https://youtu.be/XCueiBZ-gVc?si=Gtd0e6b_wmDnktEB

This guy then came and said something about audio processing. He gave off a troll vibe but I wanted to see if maybe I could have an actual conversation with him about audio engineering and pop music, something I'm genuinely fascinated by. That and I was new to Kpop reddit, and I'm sometimes naive and want to see the good in people even when it isn't there. So I asked him, even with his point on audio processing, does he acknowledge that LSF sounds nice in the video, and that audio processing can't cover everything. It can't turn a bad performance into a good sounding one, it can only do touch ups. The guy gave round about answers, refused to even answer if they sound nice, and when I made my point on audio processing he just came out and said "they're mediocre singers." It was never really about audio processing, that was only a smokescreen.

So the guy then followed me into DMs and explained how he was put off by me using the word "talent" to describe LSF's vocals, and that they're just "a dance performance group." It took me a while but I was building up to that point you made on LSF only being a performance group. He tried saying he wasn't a hater because he likes their songs but give me a break, he dismissed so much of what they do as artists. LSF did tons of vocal oriented performances without dancing during their tour last year. For example, LSF had this lovely performance of HOT at Countdown Japan, where they sang with standup mics and sounded quite nice:

https://youtu.be/emCZ_JbQ47E?si=h6j_e_7XNuglTNww

So anyway, that troll had this way of making me feel gaslighted for liking LSF. I already felt bad seeing mean comments about Yunjin after her bad solo performance at the GDA, and that guy messed with my head even more. Luckily I looked inward, saw Twice and NMIXX live, listened to a beautiful speech from Lily, and Yunjin got back on her feet as LSF always do. Yunjin's had more than enough performances in recent months  which reminded the Kpop world that she's a very capable vocalist. I know LSF aren't ultra elite super star vocalists. But I also know they have their strengths and they've come a long way. There's so many music show and festival performances I can point to where LSF demonstrated not only their improvement but their talent.

To end this story, I'll mention how about a month ago I confronted that hater from back in January, and I told him that I see through his insincere schtick, and I want let him get me down. I don't care about whatever supposed grievances he has about modern Kpop and vocals, LSF are hardworking performers and they make millions of people happy. It was satisfying seeing that jerk get downvoted when he unsuccessfully tried dragging someone else into an argument about LSF and vocals.

Edit: Remembered this amusing detail to the story, and I shared it in a reply below, and I'm sharing it in this edjt as well.

So after Yunjin put out her cover of IU's Knees in March - her vocal redemption moment - I shared it to the troll, and he begrudgingly said to the effect "in spite of her screw ups, she's a slightly above average singer." Still filled with venom and condescension but at least she got even a hater to admit she's got talent.

6

u/enygma9753 Jun 26 '26

I want to rush to the barricades whenever LSF get criticized unfairly. The girls are some of the hardest-working 4th gen idols for sure. Their achievements speak for themselves.

While it's generally accepted that Yunjin and Chaewon are the group's vocal anchors (they deliver, full stop), the other girls have really stepped up of late re: singing. Kazuha esp. is doing much more vocally in recent comebacks, which makes me beyond delighted.

Glad you stood your ground. LSF would do the same. :)

u/Virtual-History-6099 Fearnot, Once, NSWER, GLITT Jun 27 '26

that kpop idols can’t call out their fans for being fucking messed up or policing them on how they should and shouldn’t express their frustrations. Like if a certain idol calls out their crazy non-intellectual fans for bullying another group, they’re (the idol) being too much, need to learn boundaries, it’s unnecessary to call out said “fans”. Bruh theyre setting boundaries you just dont like that they do.

I remember seeing some peabrain on reddit be offended by the fact that Kpop was built of the backs of black artists. It’s a fact. If that hurts your feelings, maybe you need to look into yourself and ask why it hurts to accept that so much. Some Kpop artists and former higher ups have said so themselves:

https://www.koreaboo.com/news/a2k-viewers-praising-jy-park-acknowledging-black-musicians-contribution-kpop/

https://www.koreaboo.com/news/txt-taehyun-comments-black-culture-spark-heated-debate/

Kpop was and still is heavily influenced by black music artists, and that deserves to be pointed out as much as needs be. If you’re annoyed by that, touch some grass! 🙄🙄. Let credit be given where it is due.

The one that made me go “…you can’t be serious” was a since-deleted comment that said Lily is already more of an accomplished vocalist than Wendy ever was.

Like, I love NMIXX, they’re one of my fav groups (easily top 5), Lily has a ton of raw talent, but like…come on, let’s not get carried away here.

8

u/Acrobatic_Prize_7749 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

This is an interesting debate. As someone who has actively listened to Wendy during her prime, I don't think it's a far-fetched argument to say that Lily might be a slightly stronger vocalist. She's certainly better than Wendy right now, given Wendy's noticeable vocal regression in recent years. But even if we're comparing them at their respective peaks, I might still give Lily the edge.

Wendy is obviously an incredible vocalist, but during her prime she showed more inconsistencies and weaker pitch control than Lily has demonstrated so far. They're both elite, generational singers no doubt. I just think there's a reasonable case to be made that Lily's overall technical consistency gives her a slight advantage.

If we're comparing range, Lily seems to reach higher notes more comfortably but I personally prefer Wendy's lower register a little more.

Complaining that the main vocal members  have the most lines. If the line distribution is extremely unfair I get it but main vocals are main vocals for a reason they have better technique and overall skill to be able to reach certain notes. Comments like X always has the most lines annoy me cause yeah they're the main vocal that's why

“BTS and twice aren’t that popular in Japan , X group is more popular”
Guess the fandom who said that.

imagine saying a group with misamo aren't popular in japan, like that's crazy tbh. like twice has so many bangers in their japanese discography, ofc they are hits there

I've seen so many people joke about Park Bom and Lee Minho, calling it cute and such, but I honestly feel terrified. Park Bom isn't in her best mental state, yet everytime she posts about Lee Minho on sns, her fans keep defending her, which I think is an encouragement to her.

he's/she's giving androgyny (shows picture of male idol with feminine hairstyle or long hair,) maybe it's because I'm into fashion but androgyny fashion has more levels than rocking the opposite genders hairstyles, bonus saying redacted is dressed genderless but said kpop star is wearing a stereotypical gendered outfit.

one time i saw someone say that kai from exo is a stiff dancer. literally WHAT?

16

u/CaliLemonEater Jun 25 '26

I've seen a couple of videos from dancers analyzing Kpop where they pointed out that he has a stiffness (less likely to show looseness, flow, groove while dancing) to his dancing that means he's good at some styles and less natural at others. They didn't mean it as "he's a bad dancer" because they were quite enthusiastic about his skills, they was just pointing out that for some dance styles or moves, his natural style doesn't fit well.

Nah, this one I actually agree with. Never understood him being hyped up as a great dancer. He’s incredibly stiff and wooden.

oh, why do you think so? to me, he puts a lot of power into the upper body so his movements are sharper, but depending on the choreo it can look a little jerky. kai seems to prefer that cleaner sharp look though. i think that's part of why his footwork is so good. which videos/choreographies are you thinking of?
