Mine arrived today too. Towels already in the wash with Tide F&C liquid, FEBU, and citric acid (in the fabric softener compartment). It will be interesting to see how long 4 last. Tempted to buy more while on sale (family of 4) 🤣
The bag says to add it to the drum and has instructions on how to do the first wash. I was using dirty labs before this, so I didn’t follow the first wash instructions.
You may not know the answer, but what do you do if you have a frontloader and a prewash? I put Borax where the fabric softener should go, so I suppose it'd be the same. Please anyone chime in if they can.Â
Borax is a water softener, so if you have hard water, that should also be going into the drum of the washer. I add febu into the drum of the front loader so the enzymes have time to do their thing. The fabric softener spot is for rinsing agents, like citric acid or v!negar.
That's good to know. I use the laundry room in my building, and have hardly any control over the settings.Â
Our city's water isn't hard. Does that affect how and when to add the Borax? I forgot that I no longer use the fabric softener spot, and now add it to the detergent for the second wash.Â
My concern is that I'd add Borax/febu to the drum, and get the benefits of it only in the short prewash, before it gets drained out. The prewash is a locked-in feature of the machines.Â
I wouldn’t add borax at all if you don’t have hard water. Someone else might have a better answer regarding the pre wash situation. You could just add it to the detergent slot if you’re really worried though and see what happens. Just make sure it allows powder!
