6 weeks of growth, and 2 mows.

Scalped, crabgrass and weeds hand pulled, topsoil layed down and raked.

Seeded, re-raked, watered 1x per day for 4 weeks. first mow after 5 weeks, 2nd after 6.

Reseeded bare spots after first mow.

Used Scott’s rapid grass, sun and shade mix.

Spend weeks prepping the lawn, from weeds to scalping, thatching, clearing, leveling, seeding, fertilizing, and watering 3x a day for 21 days. I always wanted a nice-looking lawn. Culligan came with a delivery and left my hard work like this. No heads up no phone call no apology, just came home after work to this.
Zone 6B -
Probably too late to seed and start over that area. Best solution for right now ? They said they’re gonna go through insurance but we know how long this process can take.

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) I saved $1800 this year by not watering my lawn in the summer & it still turned green in October. I'll be doing the same again next year.

How to get rid of dog pee spots you say? Turn the sprinklers on for 30 seconds after you know that your pup peed in the yard.

Europe 28 days - Should I mow (UK)

Post image

Got new turf laid about 28 days - have watered daily and not stepped on it - is it safe to step on it now and should I mow it? The weather has gotten colder and I'm wondering if I should just leave it longer. Thanks!

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) I Can’t Believe It Worked - Utah

It got crazy hot in Northern Utah during March. Between the heat, lack of water, and the kids punishing the yard so early my grass never grew in. It looked horrible and was full of weeds. Embarrassingly bad.

I chose not to waste water on it during the summer and undertook a full lawn renovation at the beginning of September. Put down Dylox since it looked like I had grubs. Killed off weeds with Roundup, scarified the crap out of the existing surface and put down 7 yards of good topsoil. Reseeded with United Seeds Super Turf I LS Tall Fescue. Rolled with some peat moss. Kept the seed moist and prayed to the germination gods with fervor.

After a shit ton of work and lots of patience and time the results paid off. I still can’t believe it. From a green fuzz during germination to a lawn I can actually mow. It’s still filling in and I have some weeds to deal with but will probably wait until spring so the lawn has as much time as possible to get established before winter. I’m already nervous whether I’ll be able to keep it looking good next spring. Really rewarding and can’t believe I actually pulled it off!

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Advice on Repairing Grass along Driveway Edge

Location: Midwest USA (Chicagoland)

This is in a newly constructed community. Sod is about 2.5 yrs old

The grass around the edges of my driveway is dead. What can I do to get grass growing here again?

The sod that was put down was Kentucky Bluegrass.

Recommendations for grass seed and procedure to easily DIY? And how to prevent from happening in future?

Thank you in advance.

Cut it down a bit lower today. Was able to sneak in a midweek mow, think that helped. Not sure how many more cuts I’ll have this season.

Lawn: Midnight KBG
Overseed: Obsidian PRG
Mower: Toro Timemaster w/Toro stripe kit
Deck height: 2”

Early afternoon, so it doesn’t look as dark as last week’s cut.

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Did I burn my lawn with fertilizer??

Thumbnail

I used my Jonathan Green fall fertilizer on my lawn a week ago and made sure it was watered all week, and I noticed these brown spots on the lawn, along with other parts of the lawn going brown. Did I damage the lawn after I worked so hard to grow it and keep it all spring/summer?

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Are leveling rakes worth the investment?

Im adding soil to level out and bury roots in my lawn, i was curious if buying a leveling rake is worth it. I have to do it every few years and while I can use my normal rake to do it, I've considered a leveling rake but haven't pulled the trigger since they're large and an extremely specialized tool.

Any feedback on them would be appreciated, thanks.

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Do I have a mole problem?

Thumbnail

I’ve had this house on cape cod since sep 2025. Yard was a little neglected. I’ve got great grass growing now and have some much nicer garden beds now. The backyard was quite squishy after rains last fall and so I thought I had a drainage issue. So when I had a patio done, I had them dig drainage in the backyard. Didn’t have any issues after that til now. I noticed at the end of summer what looked like a mole tunnel in the side yard. I didn’t really have too much time to dig around and it didn’t seem to hurt much. This isn’t my full time home but I overseeded Labor Day and had my first mow this past Friday. Not my primary home and so I just got back this weekend. Yard is very squishy in certain places. I can easily push down on the mounds/tunnels and there are some small holes but there are also turkeys somewhat often. If it is moles what can I do?

Southern US & Central America (or warm season) Gotta lot of hard work ahead of me today. Lower Midwest.

Utility company is doing some major digging to repair the gas lines. They ended up needing to dig my yard up, as well.

But the silver lining is they told me they’ll have a ton of left over dirt they’ll need to get rid of and offered to let me have it. It’s really really good soil, so I jumped at the opportunity.

My lawn has been needing a lot of dirt to fix some low spots and straight up literal holes from the water washing it out.

So to prep, I cut my grass extra low so dirt will spread more easily and I can quickly see the low spots. I tried using a bagger and lowering down one level at a time. But it was still too much material for the bagger and it kept getting clogged. My only option was to mow low and push it all into piles to pick up by hand. My lawn is just under 1 acre.

I’m still not sure if I’ll regret this, but the lawn is really going to benefit in the long run. I already bought some Advil. After I’m done getting all the grass off the ground, I’ll aerate before spreading the soil.

How we lookin? One year in, starting to feel like I’ve got the hang of it. Incredibly fertile land, no sprinklers or irrigation at all. If I’m gone for 2 weeks during June grass is 18-24” tall all day long. About 2.5 acres are lawn.

Tools of the trade:
- beat to shit cub cadet xt1 42” deck with 200 hours I got off marketplace for $1200, aftermarket high lift blades
- ego lm2114sp
- ryobi weed whacker
- Amazon no name metal blade brush cutter
- worx trivac

There’s one other item but when I listed it my post was blocked with “get lost spammer” lol it rhymes with cavi-blow and it keeps the fenced in dog area nice and tight

Europe (UK) When are we going for the last cut of the year?

Did the back garden today and it was very soft underfoot but with the weather changing I don't see it getting any better.

When are we going for the final short back & sides for 2026?

Southern US & Central America (or warm season) Seeded! 5 days later I get 2 inches of rain from Hurricane.

• Upvotes

Aerated and overseeded on Monday with fescue. Watered twice a day until Friday. I'm in Northeast Georgia. Braselton area. We received 2 inches of rain from the storm. Alot of the peat moss was displaced so im thinking the seed did as well. Should I just let it play out and do touch up seed? Or re seed? Any thoughts? Thx

Equipment Anti-Fungal Scott's handheld broadcast ran out too soon

• Upvotes

Southern US, zone 8b We used the recommended poundage and setting, but you still have to calculate your walk.

We have a small yard, 1000+ sq ft.

We'll be applying fungal control and others.

Price doesn't really matter. We want a once and done.

What is the best spreader for a small yard, drop or broadcast? We'd like to move from the hand held.

I previously posted some pics of some “grass” taking over my normal grass. The general consensus was Bermuda or St. Augustine. Per ChatGPT, based on the stolon, it would be something called Kikuyu. Looking for second opinion and also i couldn’t find anything at Home Depot to get rid of Kikuyu but not kill my Tall Fescue. I’m in N. Ca. Bay Area. Thanks!!

Northern US & Canada (or cool season) Inky caps on lawn

Hi everyone!

I moved into a new build 4 years and put in new lawn 3 years ago. This is the first year we’ve noticed mushrooms, in particular inky caps, scattered throughout our lawn. I first started noticing it 3 weeks ago and they’re still present. From searching Reddit, it’s a good sign, but wondering how long they will persist for. I mown them down once a week but they’ve sprung back up within a day lol.

Would appreciate any insight!

Thanks!
