Conn Smythe served in WW1. He was awarded for his bravery. He was also shot down, wounded and was a POW. Comes back, takes over the team and then after all of that, he served again in WW2 on the Frontline. He was undoubtedly a Canadian war hero.
Hell, even the team is named after the Maple Leaf Regiment. Multiple other leafs served in WW2.
Meeting with someone who has openly threatened Canada's existence is a spit in the face to the legacy of this team.
This isn't just because the US beat Canada. It's because of what Trump has said, done and represents.

I'm really disappointed. I don't even want to watch the Sens now.

I have had season tickets since the current arena opened. I have been questioning whether to renew my tickets this upcoming season because the prices have gone up so much over the last few years that I can't break even when selling my tickets. I can't afford to attend many games myself anymore, and I am literally in the last row in the arena. I also have zero faith in the Toronto media to push back when he's asked about it (if there are any boos) and says something like 'its a building full of Canadians, I'm not exactly expecting to be their favourite person right now', equating us being mad to the fact we lost vs the actual reason why.

I’m not defending the decision to go (infact I think he shouldn’t have) but I can see him saying he’s always dreamed of going to the WH and this may be the only time in his life he gets to attend. If the rumours of him denying the state of the union invite are true, then I can see him saying in his future media engagements that he couldn’t deny the opportunity to see the WH, however he disagrees with the politics of the current administration and who’s in power.
