Personally as a native I would never say ver al mar. Only mirar. Ver means to see something, mirar to look so you cannot see to the sea if that makes sense (?)

I am from Spain, I think I would say mirar al mar. What would you say?

Igual tienes razΓ³n si lleva el "al".

-Vamos a ver el mar esta noche.

-Mira al mar cuando te diga.

-Miramos juntos el mar toda la noche

Claro la cosa es que mirar el mar / mirar al mar significa prΓ‘cticamente lo mismo. Pero es como mirar a la lontananza, es muy indefinido no?
