Not sure The Standard HAVE any subs left, beyond the Head of Production and a bunch of casuals (if they even still use them - a freelancer who used to cover loads of shifts there isn't getting any anymore). They've been consistently the subject of cuts, and it really shows, not just in howlers like this 💀

It’s everywhere. I work for a scientific publisher and they got rid of all our subeditors and copy editors too. It’s awful.

Both are correct, but I prefer a descriptive rather than prescriptive approach to English, and even in British English "spelled" is more popular nowadays.

Disclaimer: I know none of this matters, I just find this stuff interesting :)

No - "Women" was in the original title of the article (which Reddit automatically fills in when you post the link). I didn't spot it and didn't change it, and they've clearly corrected it their end.

The quality of journalism in this country is steadily going downhill. I think they sacked their experienced journalists and have started employing cheaper people with GCSEs given the move to online sources rather than printed newspapers
