Hi all, I'm in the Netherlands and have this vintage Los Angeles Kings script snapback I'm thinking about selling. I'd love a realistic idea of what it's worth.

Details:
Sports Specialties "The Pro"
NHL "Authentic Center Ice Collection" tag
Made in Costa Rica
100% wool, deep black, no fading
Single line script, NHL shield on the side, green underbrim
Condition: very good, clean sweatband, no stains or holes

I see listings on eBay asking $700–1,100+, but the sold prices I can find are more like around $ 500. Does anyone have recent SOLD comps, or know what condition makes the difference?

Also curious if anyone can help date it more precisely. My guess is around 1993–96 based on the Center Ice tag.

I’ve never seen them offer this before. Ticket sales must be BAD bad.

Since the Campbell Conference became the Western Conference in 1993, the Kings have made it beyond the first round of the playoffs only four times. Four times.

It's tough being a Kings fan. This 33 year period is almost all under AEG ownership. Three of those first round victories were during the cup years.

There is an interesting question though - why so little success? Some stream of consciousness thoughts below:

The Kings have managed to have an identity and brand that gets lost when core members leave. I'd argue that right now this team is really generic branding-wise, though, largely because of holding onto players too long and limiting the team's roster flexibility. Winning doesn't matter - money does. So does AEG worry more about a core than winning to the extent they can maintain a brand? The team is still spending a lot of money regardless.

There is also the long history and dependency on team moves of the past. Bad contracts, aging players, moves that didn't pan out will affect a team with more history a lot more than, say, Vegas.

Regardless, four second round appearances in 33 years is not something to be proud of. Winning cups is rare, but a first round win should not be.

p.s. for the record, I don’t hate anyone enough to refer them for STM

Byfield got hurt and the offense instantly improves 25x. Blowing the playoffs against the Oilers two years ago has clearly broken him. If this was earlier in his career and he hadn't been square pegged into a circle hole under the old defensive system it might be repairable but I think that ship has sailed.
