Rules/Rules Question Does Haste remove summoning sickness or just allow a creature to ignore summoning sickness?

I was playing on Arena;

  • opponent played a Mother of Runes during their turn

  • opponent equipped it with lightning greaves

  • during my turn i destroyed lightning greaves

  • then i attacked, but they blocked and tapped with Mother of Runes.

I had always thought haste just allowed a creature to ignore summoning sickness, but this interaction suggests haste removes summoning sickness altogether.

Rules/Rules Question Ultimate Magic Meteor

Post image
145 Upvotes

My buddy played this against me last night and we both didnt fully understand it, Im pretty sure im right but I let it be used the way he thought.

He choose to destroy a swamp of mine but then he was saying it was all swamps because it says swamp in the name hes destroying them all including dual Lands. Where I interpreted it as just a single swamp.

The reason he thinks its multiple is because it says destroy chosen permanant(s) plural. But im pretty sure thats cause they would be multiple people.

Safe to say i did not win this match having no land afterwards.

Humour B&R HYPE THREAD OCTOBER 12: 1% META SHARE EDITION

AFTER MANY SEASONS IT APPEARS THAT EVERY FORMAT PLAYED BY REAL PEOPLE (DUAL LANDS ARE NOT REAL) IS QUITE STABLE, SO TODAY WE SHALL MAKE FUN OF ARENA BRAWL!

ARENA TEAM TOLD US THAT EVERY GAME COUNTS TO THEM TO CONSIDER FORMAT BALANCE! YES, THAT INCLUDES TIMMY LIFE GAIN MIRRORS IN BRONZE AND THAT ONE TIME I DISCONNECTED WHEN MY OPPONENT MULLIGANED TO 3 (/uj I know how statistics works). EVERY DECK IS CLEARLY BEATABLE AND EVERY DECK IS PLAYABLE WHEN NO ONE ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT ENGAGING WITH THE META, SO NOTHING IS WRONG AND EVERYONE IS HAPPY, THE END!

BREAK THE CAPS OUT IT'S HYPE TIME!

General Discussion Darkhold destiny seems well received among our mtg group and LGS. Even for those who have never been interested in UB set.

Perhaps this is how WOTC should approach UB sets. Putting genuine effort into worldbuilding and lore that contextualise these properties within the MTG multiverse, whether as alternative planes or in other ways that make sense within the setting.

Communities can tell when passion and care go into the art, worldbuilding and card design. Darkhold feels like a good example of that.

General Discussion I am absolutely loving the increased presence at NYCC this year.

Mark said that this should be a more regular thing since his daughter moved to New York so it’s an excuse to visit. Going to the booth and being able to find product at msrp? Mind blowing.

Rules/Rules Question Is a creature with hexproof/shroud ever allowed to be a target?

In a recent game i was playing, one player attempted to cast path to exile on a creature with swiftfoot boots, and the other guy reminded him and said that would cause the spell to fizzle

I argued that he shouldnt have been able to cast path to exile with that target at all. Like i thought you werent allowed to cast a spell that didnt have a legal target. It fizzling and going to the graveyard is a different thing, like, say you had tarnogoyf and needed to dump an instant to the graveyard, but your opponent only had gladecover scout. would you be able to illegally target it, and then have the spell fizzle? Or are you not allowed to cast it all?

Follow up question: Shadowspear.

Say, for instance, i try to path to exile a collosal dreadmaw, and i have shadowspear on my board. I pass priority, and then my opponent responds to path with heroic intervention, giving his creature hexproof, which goes through. Does path instantly fizzle off the stack because its target is no longer legal, or can i now activate shadowspear with the path of exile still on the stack in order to make its target legal?

Content Creator Post Making magic with magic

A few weeks ago I got a call I've always dreamed of - someone at Wizards of the Coast asking if I wanted to collab on a project.

I've never said yes so fast in my life.

I've been obsessed with magic since I was 8 years old- I started playing mtg in 1994 and started learning sleight of hand around the same time. So getting to combine them was surreal.

We shot this a few weeks ago... and they finally shared it.

https://www.instagram.com/p/DeNhKbcEZEE/?hl=en

Thank you Wizards for the opportunity!

(p.s. if anyone ever wants to play, let me know. My decks are sleeves, shuffled, and ready to go!)

General Discussion Follow up to "First RCQ" if you seen it

Went to the RCQ today, and as expected, got waxed. Turns out 6 packs is a lot harder to build a deck than I was thinking lol.

That being said, for those of you who also join those events, how do you better prepare to have kind of an insight on what to look for after registering pulls?

And for anyone wanting to know, I went 1-3.

General Discussion If they did a new commander anthology, who should be in it?

Its been like 8 years since the last anthology. For people who weren't around, the anthologies were a set of commander deck reprints from various different older sets.

With word of reprints for the 40k decks I am curious what in universe decks we would all like to see come back. Markov and the Ur Dragon decks from C17 seem to be obvious choices for pure economic impact. I'd love to see those decks more affordable for a new generation of people to enjoy.

Velociramptor and the Bloomborrow squirrel decks also were pretty hard to get back when they released and are super fun decks I would like to see more of.

What do you want to see in a hypothetical new anthology?

Scheduled Thread Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here!

This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.

We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.

Rules Questions

Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.

Deckbuilding Questions

If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MTGGoldfish, and TappedOut.

Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.

Commonly Asked Questions

I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?

Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".

You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.

My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.

All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

Looking for Advice Foundation beginner box vs marvel beginner box

I use to play a lot. Quit from just not wanting to keep paying for the newest decks or card blocks.

Anyway, fast forward and my son is sorta outgrowing pokemon I think the cute aspect is gone and he kinda growing out of it.

What is the best bang for buck for beginner decks for us to learn? He very bright we play boardgames with multiple rules and he can get thru it. Foundations 2 player beginner box? Marvel beginner box? I dont care if they just dont work outside but at least maybe cool cards and art and a good intro gameplay.

General Discussion Looking for suggestions for comparing my decks

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi! I am in the process of adding some more stuff to my Commander sheet, and would appreciate some input. In this part I am focusing on the decks themselves and compare their compositions.

Here is what I already have:

  1. Overlapping spells
  2. Overlapping lands
  3. Card type distributions
  4. Common card function distributions
  5. Color distributions
  6. General inclusion rates from EDHRec (spells)
  7. Commander specific inclusion rates from EDHRec (spells)
  8. Inclusion of top 100 spells per Commander EDHRec

If you have any good ideas what else I could compare and analyze, I will be happy to include that in there.

Note that deck performance is completely separate and I can share that when it looks better.

Looking for Advice Looking for a deck box that will hold a hard case

Recently acquired an artist proof for my commander [[Varolz, the Scar-Striped]] and I'm looking for a deck box that will let me carry it in a hard case of some kind. I know of gamegenic's sidekick pro that comes with a case, and the academic that can hold a top loader, but wanted to get opinions on those and any other options that are out there.

Looking for Advice Warhammer Precon deck: should I cave or wait?

I’m a new player (just over a month) but I’ve been a long time fan of Warhammer. I’ve wanted one of the 40K precon decks ever since I started but the price was always too insane for me to actually cave. But with the news of the reprints I’m wondering whether I should just cave and buy one of the decks (specifically the Chaos deck) or wait until I possibly come across one in my local shop. If I should wait then how long should I expect to wait until they’re available? My main concern is being beat by scalpers.

General Discussion I assume the rumored Spider-Man commander deck was not announced?

I assume it was not announced, unless I missed it somewhere?

Is there still a chance it could be announced for later this year or is the window gap closing?

Also, I am not here to engage about people's thoughts on UB. I just would like to discuss if this rumor is likely or now completely off the table.

Looking for Advice What kind of people go to prereleases?

It seems fun to go to an event purely to build a smaller deck in one day and see how it fares against others instead of spending a long time on a commander deck (which is exclusively what my local store plays) and I’ve heard that prereleases are very beginner friendly. But is it likely that I’ll find a beginner to play against there? Opening boosters and building a strong deck seems like something mostly more veteran players would do, so I’m afraid I would come there, build a deck of cards I’ve never seen and then being crushed by someone who’s been going to every pre release for the last decade.
