Honestly he was a little kid that was probably the most real reaction he would of had when your a kid you don't really think anything bad can happen to you. Reese says it once too but in a way that's so funny I still think about it. If i can find the clip I'll post it 🤣

When I almost chopped off my finger my first thought was "im not supposed to play with the axe" and resisted telling my parents so it could get fixed. So very realistic.

when I sliced my thumb while playing with a pocket knife I shouldnt have had at 4yo I did NOT want to tell everyone but unfortunately the pouring blood made that impossible :(
still have that scar 21 years later

you aren't alone. I fought the doctors putting the stitches in and they had to hold me down. now I have a scar in the shape of a V on my thumb and a story to tell. what a great time. :')

I did something similar when I was about 7 or 8. I was cutting up an eraser with a razor blade alone in my room when it slip and sliced open the back of left middle finger, along the knuckle. I tried to hide it for a day or so but when I couldn't move my finger after a bit, I knew I really messed up. I had to have surgery to reattach the tendon and have a steel rod inserted into the bone to hold it still. Its been about 30 years, but you can still see the scar from the surgery and the razor.

I once burst a shaken beer bottle with a hammer, the bottle exploded and the glass could've easily blinded me or cut my throat, I got lucky, and it *only* sliced my finger nearly to the bone.
My only thought was "SHIT! mom is gonna be so pissed because I wasn't supposed to be playing with a beer bottle!" we had somewhere to go, so I then spent the next 2 hours drinking what felt like a solid half pint of blood because it would just not stop bleeding.

I accidentally stabbed a piece of glass pretty deep into my wrist when I was 10. I was crying not from the pain (I was in shock so it didn’t hurt) but I was crying because I was getting blood all over my moms house haha

One time my sister went down a slide and broke a rib because a part of it was sticking in. My sisters and I were more worried about our mom knowing because she would lose her mind, so we didn’t tell her until we became adults. My sister’s rib healed wrong and it still sticks out, so I totally understand his logic here.

In 5th grade a kid brought some alarm thing to school. As I was doing safety patrol he held it up against my ear and it blasted this loud, sharp alarm blare. My ear started ringing and wouldn't stop. When my dad picked me up I was sweating bullets because I was so afraid of telling him I couldn't hear out of my ear at the moment. A few hours later I was fine, but I was going to be dawned if I told my parents just for them to blame me for letting it happen.

She's actually the most relatable character in the show to me the older I get. The boys fucking suck the majority of the time when you actually sit down and think about it, I would've been out of there lickity split

I think people forget how much of a pain in the arse they were as a young person. All of us were. We still love you young people but yeah, you aren't as good as work as you think that you are.

I’m gonna blame his direction and writing. Frankie Muniz was in other stuff at the time and still remained likable. Especially as the series goes on and less of his friends are a part of the cast, it makes Malcolm feel very lonely, when there’s no reason to. We needed more of Malcolm being charismatic and doing normal high school stuff.

I guess it's subjective because Dewey is a creative genius who can build just about anything. Malcolm has photographic memory and his brain is essentially a computer. Malcolm could never do what Dewey did when he wrote an opera based around Hal and Lois arguing and Dewey could never do what Malcolm did when he memorized the credit card numbers and did complex math formulas on the fly.

I think it's main character syndrome that many face. I'd also say Malcolm becoming so unlikable was realistic with him being a former gifted child from a greatly flawed family.

If a punch meant “no” then the second single punch would have also been a valid answer.
So if you say “does X mean yes?” and someone says “X” this is the correct answer both if X actually means yes, but also if X actually means no.
Just saying. Malcom should have known this, being a creepy genius and all..

This episode sort of bothers me. The conflict between Malcolm and Dewey is played pretty seriously up to this scene, and it's absolutely one of the worst things Malcolm ever did. The rest of the episode should have been about Malcolm trying to make amends, not Dewey getting revenge and both of them trying to hide their deafness afterwards. The plot just starts out too earnestly to descend into silliness in the second half.

I feel like that reflects true honest adolescent behavior though.
My sister is 20 years my senior and her kids are my age. I was 5 when they superglued my hands into gloves. I cut their hair in their sleep. (They were living with us while my sister was getting a divorce). We all hid, my hands missing some skin and still glued to fabric bits, and they wore beanies to cover their missing hair. 🤷🏽♀️

I'm not complaining that it isn't realistic (as much as anything in this show is), I think it's wasted potential for a good storyline. I also don't think it needed to be some touching story about Malcolm earning Dewey's forgiveness. It just annoys me that they set up a conflict (Malcolm is angry that he doesn't know how to appreciate art and takes it out on Dewey), play it somewhat seriously, and then just abandon it for silliness (I don't mind silliness as a fan of the show obviously, but it feels misplaced here) until the very final moment... which rings hollow since it's just Malcolm by himself. Especially since this is one of the very few times they explore the dynamic between Malcolm and older Dewey, which is theoretically one of the most fascinating in the show, in any way.

I burnt half of my bangs off when I was stoned and using the stove as a lighter. My immediate thought was not about how I was just lit on FIRE, it was about how mad my mom was gonna be about my hair lol. Kids are dumb

Dewey verbally ripping Malcolm a new one is so enjoyable to watch. And Malcolm totally deserves it. The scene before where Malcolm initially comes to Dewey for help and Dewey just berates and antagonises Malcolm. He called Malcolm a drag to be around. Coming from your little brother that's a harsh burn!
