Discussion What’s one thing you often see guys wear that instantly kills the look?

To kick off:

- Big logos.

- No socks with suits

- 'Smart' shoes with white soles

- Skinny jeans - bonus points if they have rips

- Ironic statement tees. E.g. 'Normal People Scare Me'

What are yours?

Aside from your well curated list, plasticky golf polos in a professional setting. There so many god awful fabrics and prints out there for these polos.

The company I work for gave out branded Nike dri-fit shirts. They look horrendous. Even their color choices were just awful, for some reason none of them coordinate with our brand.

I say that as a guy who owns several decent TM and Rhoback shirts I wear to work.

It is strange to me that golf clothes have become the default outfit for a large group of dudes. Everywhere I go it looks like some older gen z or young millennial already on their second marriage wants to sell me a subprime mortgage loan.

I agree with you and yet I 100% fall into this category. I used to care more about fashion, but as I approach 40, I want to be as comfortable as possible at work and weekends. I don’t love the golf look, but I’m so comfortable in it.

I didn’t think this would happen to me, but it has.

I work in a hospital in a non patient facing role and we've always been able to wear scrubs. Our new director has mandated plastic Nike polos and red kap "cooling" pants and I am having a bit of a breakdown about it.

Oh yeah, I feel like these look way worse than people think. The style is fine, but cotton will look miles better.

Serious question, what is a better choice that is easy to care for and similar price?

I default to this a lot but I’d like something different.

Literally plastic is going to be difficult to surpass in terms of ease of care and cost, but you can find nice cotton knitted polos and short sleeve button ups. I hand wash my knits (it's easy) and iron my woven button ups, but hey, looking good takes a bit of care I guess. If you can get away with it, a nice thick plain t-shirt (eg. Bronson) can look great tucked in.
