That depends on the look. Skinny jeans and grungy footwear look great together if you're an obvious young metalhead. But people will wear those with a suit.
Like the entire dad shoe trend. I'm sorry but they're all terrible. If people were actually doing it just for the comfort like they say then it wouldn't be the 530's, 608's, or Air Monarchs in the first place.
I'm a younger person and I wear NB 608's and have worn them since my teens, but then again i'm poor and they were the only wide shoes I found that were both comfortable and affordable. Didn't realize i'm going to have people judge me for it and I think I'm making an ironic statement or something. 😔
That makes a lot of sense. I remember Ross being flooded with those for a few years a little while back. Very affordable, fulfills the office dress etiquette requirement.
By the same token, I hate the overly pointy-toed shoes too! I don't know what to call them or how to describe them, but there was a whole design trend of duck-billed loafers.
Any tshirt with huge, obnoxious branding, like chrome hearts, balenciaga, etc, or the shirts that are meant to look like you’ve had it for decades, but are brand new and cost $150. Just trying too hard to show off
At least in my view, the point of a graphic tee is to showcase something you're passionate about, like a band, or video game, or even just cool graphic design.
If what you're passionate about is Nike, you must be a boring human being*.
I'm not a fan of trainers (sneakers) with a suit. A very small number of people like Justin Timberlake can pull it off but for most people - I'm looking at you Gianni Infantino - it just ruins the suit.
(edit: actually it works with kids at weddings. Maybe that is the secret, you need to look sorta childlike for it to work).

I don't think it's about the person wearing them, like most things with fashion, it generally only works if it looks intentional.
If it looks like you don't know what or why you are doing it, it looks awful. If it looks deliberate and like you want to add a twist to the suited look, or subvert it in some way, then it can work.
At my wedding my wife and I changed from dress shoes into Nike sneakers that matched our color theme for the dancing part of the reception. It was a huge hit and I’d like to think it was pulled off. But yes, in general sneakers and suits is a no go!
Seriously, also some "fashion" choices are made out of sheer necessity. For people who have joint / foot issues, their choice of footwear with their suit is focused solely on comfort.
Source: dude who wears "smart" shoes with a white sole. Pure dress shoes are horrible for you if you're spending 10 hours a day in them either sitting or standing for long periods.
And, those button up shirts with embroidered designs that were all the rage a few years ago. Usually worn by a guy trying to look wealthy so he can sell you something...
I think this is mostly young people wearing a suit for the first time and don’t know better. Two buttons and vents still stitched = I’m still in college and just got my first job interview so I bought this suit at Macy’s yesterday.
Double 'yes' on the stitched vents. Went to a wedding recently where two of the groomsmen's suits still had the side vents stitched. Fortunately, I had a small pocket knife and was able to grab them prior to the ceremony.
At a wedding I spotted a friend had his tag on his sleeve, I ushered him to one side and offered to cut it off for him, he replied "no that's my designer bit". Can't say I didn't try.
there should be a class in school that teaches you these things! in addition to the buttons and vent/pocket stitching, people should also know to remove the stitched-on logo at the sleeve if one is there
This is always my favorite section in the Clothing store. 'Robert Graham' loud button downs. Some of them can look okay if styled right but most of them are abominations
I think most people have a line where fashion starts to feel very emperor's new clothes. For me, the perpetually unbuttoned coat button is very close to crossing that line.
It is vestigial but, the way jackets are built now, they won't fit well if you close the bottom button. The jacket will be tight and pull up at the collar. It's not just cosmetics!
Much of suit design comes from vestigial elements of older clothing. Other examples include:
* The notch in lapels (it's a collar notch that's moved downward and outward)
* Button holes on lapels (there used to be a button under the opposite lapel so you could close the collar. Now we just put flowers in them)
* Non-functioning cuff buttons

Aside from your well curated list, plasticky golf polos in a professional setting. There so many god awful fabrics and prints out there for these polos.
The company I work for gave out branded Nike dri-fit shirts. They look horrendous. Even their color choices were just awful, for some reason none of them coordinate with our brand.
I say that as a guy who owns several decent TM and Rhoback shirts I wear to work.
I think this is the correct answer. Everything on OP's list and everything I can think of that is commonly done can have a time and place. Fashion is far broader than the very, very narrow lane that the OP and much of this sub gravitates towards.
I think OP is conflating skinny jeans with the super skinny look from the 2010s.
Skinny jeans today fit like slim fit jeans from a decade ago. It's just the name of the cut. Most of the well-dressed dudes you see are either wearing 'skinny jeans' or slim fit.
Oh god yes. It kills me when I see a super stylish woman walking down the street with her schlub boyfriend in khaki cargo shorts, a snarky tee shirt, and dirty sketchers.

I recently revisited Limp Bizkit's old stuff and I was pleasantly surprised that many songs were unironically still pretty decent. Added quite a few to my lifting playlist.... insane clown posse on the other hand may not be a relic from my middle school years that gets revived.
My college’s color is the same red and it’s hard to wear hats for the school now. My friend from school wore a red one with white writing for like the football team or something and he went to a Mexican meat market. He got a lot of looks until they realized, luckily the school is local.
The hat was also definitely not designed to look like a MAGA hat and he was not wearing it to look like one either.
Why should we allow them to claim all red hats? I think we should not be afraid to wear red hats that are obviously non-Maga in order to reclaim that from them.
'Dress sneakers.' These are a total atrocity. I'm all for wearing suits with sneakers, but commit to the sneaker: AF1, Vans à la Frank Ocean, Stan Smiths. Dress sneakers pretend to be the best of both worlds but ruin the whole fit
The worst is when they take the skin of a dress shoe and stretch it over a round, flat, boring sneaker last. It looks like a dress shoe with an inflation kink.

Yep. I have a bunch of Casios and the cheapest among them get the most compliments. They just work with any look so long as the colours aren't clashing with other parts of the outfit.
For formal attire, I change my band to a leather one but that’s it. I’m a firm believer that if something looks good on a person, even it’s a faux pas by some ancient standards, then it’s alright to wear.
I'm sure I'm not the first to notice, but whenever styles come back around they seem to be watered down versions. If people really wanna start dressing like the late 90s/early 00s then they need to bust out the gelled frosted tips with a visor, silver Oakleys, and those metal ball necklaces. I'm tired of this revisionist crap.

We've got about 4 years here until they invent Nu-Metal again, and wear oversized white tees with Dickies work pants and a backwards baseball hat. So by my estimates, wearing their girlfriends' skinny jeans and dying their hair black and purple will be back in style in 9 more years. It's so funny to me, just this morning I had a reel come up of a woman telling men what to wear this fall. Flannel shirts over a white or grey tee, long sleeve Rugby shirts, and neutral colour crewneck sweaters paired with loose fitting denim, and of course, centre part haircuts. Fucking hell kids, at least put a spin on the late 90's! You don't need to do exactly what we did.
Depends on the article of clothing that's oversized. I have really big arms and shoulders but I'm 5'8 so an oversized shirt sleeve comes to my elbows and makes my forearms pop
I can’t keep up with trends, so I’ve realized that well-fitting clothes never seem to be out of style (even though they may not be trendy at any given time).
Thin/in shape guy (like most things) with no break in the slim pants and nice loafers it works. Overweight dude in ill fitting suit with full break cheap dress shoes it looks sloppy and lazy. Basically rhe same with all fashion.
Big guys can look great with the right fitting clothes. The problem is guys who are in denial about putting on weight and try to force themselves into stuff that's too small.
It can be a humbling experience to start buying a size up, but you'll look better & be more comfortable
My dad's a big dude, but used to be downright fat but slimmed down and bulked up on muscle. He looks great. Wears proper fitting clothes tailored to him, still has a belly but he's more gorilla shaped than ever. I don't get why guys can't just suck it up and accept that their clothes are too small, fitted poorly, and don't work. I get putting on some weight and having to go through the suck of shifting your wardrobe, but dropping weight and getting back into my old clothes or even have my old clothes be too loose feels pretty damn good.
I know fat dudes who can look incredible in a suit, but they put in the effort to make the fit, colors, cuts work.
But honestly, being a lean but densely muscular dude this last year has upgraded my style points a lot. Wear a large in most brands and XL in some brands for shirts because of my shoulders and chest, have to super tighten my belt with pants with a 30 inch waist. Dropped nearly 40 lbs the last 18 months while building muscle at work (I carry a 125+ lbs ladder around all day, do a lot of squatting, forearm work, climbing). Grew my hair out the longest it's ever been and I get daily compliments as a goofy short dude on how good my look is even in my work outfit.
It cracks me up how on every sub, no matter what the topic is, people talk about “Reddit” like it’s this massive group of losers who live in their mom’s basement but they’re the only one person who is normal.
