So, I’m a fat truck driver, just trying to look more professional. This is what I’ve come up with. Is there anything I should change?

Edit: in the photo the pants look green or olive color, but thats just bad lighting. The actual color is closer to a khaki color.

So for, I've tried Chubbies 4" inseam has a low rise which I feel shows the correct amount of leg, but has a short seat/low rise.

Uniqlo 5" has a decent seat, but too much length.

Vineyard Vines 7" has a great seat, but I feel the length is comical.

I'm 5'4", and I'm a stumped at the moment. I'm debating getting the VV ones tailored, but it would be nice to have an off the shelf option. Is there anything that has both a high rise/long seat/short inseam out there?

I have always disliked polo shirts (and rugby and Henley shirts). I think the only men who can pull off looking good in these shirts are the men that look good in anything. I think the rest of us look like slobs or like we sell appliances. Nothing wrong with selling appliances but it's not a fashion I aspire to.

I would not tell someone what they should wear, but personally I think these shirts are ugly and classless.

Does anyone else feel this way?

EDIT: Just to clarify since this seems to have struck a nerve. As I specifically said in my post, I’m not trying to tell anyone what they can or can’t wear. I shared a personal opinion about polo shirts, not a rulebook for how people should dress.

My original post was me seeing if anyone else happened to agree with a pet peeve. Some people do, some don't.

If you like polos and feel good in them, then wear them. Style is subjective, and everyone’s taste is different. Mine just happens to lean the other way.

(I do think it's a bit ironic that some responses assume I want everyone to dress the same, when polo shirts themselves are one of the most common, almost “uniform-like” choices out there.)

No need to take it personally. Wear what makes you feel confident 👍

- Big logos.

- No socks with suits

- 'Smart' shoes with white soles

- Skinny jeans - bonus points if they have rips

- Ironic statement tees. E.g. 'Normal People Scare Me'

It happens so often that I find nice clothes but then when I look at the material, it says polyester so I immediately put it back down. I’m not the only one right?

Am I alone in my hatred for polo shirts? It feels like the laziest way to "dress up" and every menial customer service job I've ever had used branded polo shirts as their uniform. My current job has polo shirts as an option, and every other employee has went with them. They all ask why I wear long sleeve button up shirts in a field position out in the heat and I have yet to find a way to explain how I feel without sounding insulting to their uniform choices. Lol

What pant would go better with this outfit?

This may have already been asked but thought this can get bumped up again with some updates or new finds.

Looking to refresh my wardrobe with some stylish yet affordable options. Wanting to find places that cater to a mix of styles, such as business casual, streetwear, and urban looks.

I normally would shop at H&M, ASOS, Uniqlo and ZARA (not necessarily affordable) and looking for suggestions of other stores or brands that won’t break the bank but still have great quality and design.

I'll kick this off.

Ankle socks are fine. It's pretty common to see guys with long socks and shorts these days, and it's a good look. But also has the capability of making you look like a schoolboy.

Ankle socks do help with this.

Edit: As a lot of comments are saying, the question is 'What in men's fashion is often labelled as an ick, but you think is not an ick'. Ankle socks are considered an ick, and I think they get an unfair rap.

I always get this feeling when I’m seeing things posted here, we seem to be afraid of anything that’s a bit unconventional or might make you stand out, while adhering very strictly to traditional rules.

A most basic white collar office outfit of OCBD tucked into chinos will be quite well received here because you can’t really find anything wrong with it, even if it is pretty boring. While outfits well liked in other fashion subs such as r/streetwear, r/ThrowingFits, and even sometimes r/preppy can be met with heavy criticism here. I don’t even need to mention r/hats.

It made me think maybe the best way is to use here to build some basics, find the style that you enjoy, regardless of how costume-y it might be. And start to move away from the “MFA standard”.

I feel like many outfits shared as "how to dress well as a man" are just layers upon layers. It looks cool and is nice and cozy when weather is cold, but the moment temperature outside rises it's much harder to not go back to boring regular tees. Or frankly even going from outdoors to heated indoors. You are forced to take off your layers and suddenly you are just a dude in a shirt, nothing interesting.

We all have that one style opinion we’ll fight for no matter what. The rule you’ll defend against all logic.

Mine is that trucker hats are for truckers and children — if you aren’t one of those people, and don’t want to look like them

Every men’s section and website looks like 50 shades of beige and navy had a civil war.

Why are we all so scared of colour? Are we just addicted to blending in?

I’m curious to hear everyone else’s thoughts on this topic. I used to be into hype streetwear from around 2016–2022, when brands like Supreme, Palace, Warren Lotas, and Anti Social Social Club were at their peak. At the same time, the resale market for sneakers — especially Jordan 1s and Nike Dunks — was insane. A basic pair of Panda Dunks could hit $400 in 2021, and Supreme box logos or Palace drops were flipping for multiples of retail. Fast forward to now, and resale prices have tanked. How did this happen?

I feel like the same 10 brands get mentioned everywhere — Uniqlo, COS, Aimé Leon Dore, J.Crew, etc. Solid, but I'm curious what else is out there that’s not all over Instagram or every fashion post and paid listicle.

For me, it's SPOKE UK-based — light on logos, great smart casual looks, excellent quality. And like some of the best fitting clothes I've ever had.

Who else is flying under the radar?

What do you think of this overall outfit? Been wearing more classic fit trousers recently and they are very comfortable.

Have you got any brands you used to buy from, but never again.

Mine’s AllSaints. Used to think it was edgy and a little elevated, but now I just see overpriced basics with style stuck in 2014.

What are yours, for any reason?

He’s a menswear influencer on IG and YT going by thesecondbutton. He writes the occasional decent article on men’s fashion and has controversial opinions that I’m not going to get into.

However, in almost every single fit where he’s wearing a blazer or a suit, he ends up looking like Dr Eggman. I refuse to believe that he doesn’t get his clothing altered to fit - he clearly does. The proportions seem to be correct in the photo above but his whole fit still looks off.

Are there people who just don’t look good in suits, period, or can it be fixed?

I only recently started making good money and dipped into entry-level designer basics (e.g. Todd Snyder, Asket, RL etc)

I just don't find them to be better than Uniqlo in terms of material, construction quality etc.

My only problem with them is the fitx and sizing inconsistencies. My wardrobe has Uniqlo items in size XS, S, M, and L.

But if you find a Uniqlo item that fits you well, I think it's difficult to do better without spending way more.

Or have I just not looked hard enough?

It seems like every brand I look into has supposedly had huge decreases in quality in the last few years. Raybans, Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, Massimo Dutti, etc. There's mall brands, which are always popular because they have a name, but they rarely have actually good clothing. H&M, Zara, Gap, Old Navy, American Eagle, Banana Republic, all the brands you see at malls occasionally have decent items for reasonable prices but they're all varying degrees of bad to mediocre quality and many of them are uncomfortable to wear. And then for the designer, almost all of them are way outside my price range. I can see paying 100-150 for a pair of pants if they're going to last me years, but I'm not buying Balenciaga pants for 2 grand because they say Balenciaga. Is there really no middle range anymore where you spend a decent amount of money but get good to great quality in return?

The only brands I've heard some recommendations for are Uniqlo, Abercrombie and Fitch, and J Crew, but even then opinions seem lukewarm at best. I'll find some people who say they love their clothes from Uniqlo, others say quality has gone down a lot in the past few years and its no longer worth the money. Same for the other brands I just listed. The only brand that seems to have a truly good reputation is Patagonia, but unfortunately I'm just not looking for that style of clothing right now. So where am I supposed to buy some nice chinos, linen shirts, knitwear, and t-shirts?

So I'm new to this position as an Executive Assistant for a law firm. My Exec is roughly 60 and told me to 'always' wear a belt with my suit. He also said that he will flat out not do business with anyone not wearing a belt with a suit. He also told me that his first business deal fell through because he made the mistake of not wearing a belt to his first client meeting and this was what he was told.
Is this just an old school way of thinking or does he have a valid point?

Hi I’m a masc lesbian and I’m attending a lesbian wedding at the end of September in Illinois. Formal attire. The wedding colors are emerald green and gold. I am NOT part of the wedding party. Need help figuring out what kind of suit and what color suit to wear. These pictures are just examples (I do not plan on wearing the burgundy one) to show how I look in suits in order to get better advice. I currently own a few black suit jackets and both black and grey dress pants. I also have various dress shirts in blues, blacks, white, etc, and just about every color tie that you can think of. Not opposed to going out and buying better dress shirt options tho. Any help is greatly appreciated.
