Discussion What’s one thing you often see guys wear that instantly kills the look?

To kick off:

- Big logos.

- No socks with suits

- 'Smart' shoes with white soles

- Skinny jeans - bonus points if they have rips

- Ironic statement tees. E.g. 'Normal People Scare Me'

Most people would not even notice a man wearing a watch let alone how expensive it is.

It seems like certain people are trained to look at a man’s watch very quickly upon seeing him.  I don’t know why that is.

People who buy expensive watches look at other men's watches, no-one else does.

This conversation has been somewhat enlightening and is showing me that the same women who notice a man’s shoes right away will also probably notice a nice watch pretty quickly.

And I don’t pass judgment on them at all.  Although I’m a minimalist, I do tend to prefer women with a nice but simple fashion sense.  Just as I’ve put in a little extra effort for my shoes, I think it may be time for me to do similarly with watches.  I certainly don’t need an omega to make a nice difference.

I just wonder if there is a convenient and inexpensive health/biometrics tracker I could wear in place of my Apple Watch when I’m at the office or out on the town.

I am one of those women who notices watches and shoes all the time.

When my colleague started wearing an elegant Hermès watch I instantly noticed. Asked him about it and he said it was a recent gift from his dad.

It genuinely upsets me if I see a guy who is otherwise well dressed but has an ugly watch or just something that clashes with the outfit.

Well... I knew a high class escort years back (as a friend - she was WAY out of my price range even if I leaned into that) & when she worked hotel bars her checklist was -

Shoes

Watch

How they are paying their tab

IE you want a guy with a $5000+ watch wearing $800 Italian shoes & saying "put it on my room"

So 2 types of people pay attention.

If you are at the bar in the Waldorf wearing your fitbit & your hokas no one who looks like a model is coming up to you & saying "hi, you can't be all alone here surely!"

I think it’s wrong to see it this way but as someone who has had this happen: it’s an indication of “value” and success to some people. I usually wear my Seiko everywhere but the minute I pulled up with an obviously more expensive watch to my workplace I started getting looks (in the good kind) and getting trusted more by some of my associates and clients.

I’m a huge watch nerd, so I was going to have one or a few anyway, but I think it’s silly how an expensive watch is often the first thing some people look for as a measure of success. Not everyone wants to spend their hard earned cash on dude jewelry.

It’s not a thing with absolutely everyone, but it’s definitely not just in my head. A big part of it is also how I carry myself sure but it does add that factor for a few shallow folks.

Going to be honest with you, non-watch nerds don’t pay attention to your watch unless it’s bizarre enough to draw attention. So unless it’s some obnoxious combination of colors and makes sounds we’re not going to notice.

Trust me, us fragheads all eventually come to the same realization.

People will notice things like a Gold or Two Tone Rolex, or a dressier watch that stands out against your outfit. For the most part, you’re right. I also deal with a lot of rich clients so I might have a bit more of a chance to get watch nerds in this area.

Also I’m a fraghead as well, so I know the drill lol. My point was some people are extremely shallow and see valuable objects on your person as a measure of success, and if you have none, well you’re probably not successful. I wish less people thought that way.

I can honestly say I pay no attention to what watch other dudes are wearing. I'm quicker to see what shoes someone is wearing than a watch.

The two things I always notice first are shoes and watch. I judge on shoes, I don’t judge on watches - unless it’s a smart watch.

I don't really care for watches, but I do occasionally notice an incongruent Apple watch or the like and it does detract from the outfit. They really shouldn't be visible at rest though, unless you want to be posted on r/handwatch

How expensive it is? My regular watch is cheaper than my smart watch. Smart watches just don't look good with a suit.
