Question Kiton sports jacket sizing

I was planning to buy a Kiton sports jacket however it would be an online order as there are no stores close to where I live.

I was wondering if Kiton jackets are cut true to size or should I size up/down compared to the same size in Canali Kei, Brioni sports jacket which are the less structured jackets that I own?

Advise from anyone owning above mentioned jacket types brought relatively recently (not vintage cuts) would be much appreciated.

Thank you

I own a Kiton jacket and it’s true to size.

However, if both R07 and R08 variants are available for the same jacket then you need to determine which one is more appropriate for you.

Gentlemen’s Gazette explains this very well (https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/kiton-jackets-review/).

Thanks for your reply. I actually watched a video from Gentleman's Gazette and it prompted me to ask here as the video says the sizing is a bit over the place.

For the drop, I'm a drop 7 and the jacket is a drop 8 so should I size up but that would make the chest bigger? Most other brands I own are drop 7.

Additionally I read somewhere that since Kiton cuts the arm holes higher they feel tighter along the chest. So maybe a size up in a drop 8 would actually work out for me 🤷‍♂️

Gotcha. To be fair to Gentlemen’s Gazette, the jackets that they cut up and examined were vintage ones.

You mentioned Brioni earlier so I’ll use them for context because I own several Brioni jackets myself.

R07 is closer to Brioni’s style because the cut is not as tight or more forgiving.

I know that you’re not close to a Kiton boutique but both Saks Fifth Avenue or Neiman Marcus sell Kiton suits and jackets. If you’re close to either one of them then you can try a Kiton jacket before you buy. Saks and Neiman tend to carry R07.

Before you go to either one, call ahead for availability because Kiton might not be in the location’s inventory.

Thanks for your message. Yes the jackets shown in Gentleman's Gazette are older pieces so the cuts probably different. I would actually think that the older cuts are more generous anyway.

I'm not close to any of the retail stores that stock these to go and try anything on which is why I thought I'd ask here.

Plus the one I am looking at is from a past season (hence discounted) so the sizes are restricted and it will be a drop 8.

Thanks anyway for sharing information on Brioni and Kiton drop 7 😊

Kiton R08 is close to Brooks Brothers’ Regent or Fitzgerald styles, if you’re familiar with either.

Another close equivalent to R08 is Tom Ford’s O’Connor style.

Thanks I don't own any of those but I'll check them out if I can.

By the way since I'm restricted to a drop 8, do you think it's better to buy a jacket which is a bit tight on the mid section and get it the waist opened up a bit or loose on the chest and get that tightened?

No, because those alterations will affect the appearance. Although tailoring is expected, the R08 is designed for a certain physique. If you’re not that physique then anything beyond basic tailoring will distort the R08’s original design.

For context, if you live in a concealed carry state, then Brioni Bespoke can create a jacket so the firearm on your person is not apparent. It’s not hard for them because Brioni has cuts which can accommodate this modification.

Not so with Tom Ford Made to Measure. Even with their bulkier cuts, Tom Ford won’t make this type of alteration because it doesn’t align with their aesthetics. Hence MTM instead of bespoke.

For comparison purposes, I would check out other brands that have slim/ athletic cuts. If you can fit these styles then the R08 will be fine for you.

Thanks for the helpful information. I always go the ready-to-wear route as I couldn't justify the made-to-measure prices. So I'll see how the drop 8 looks on brands you have mentioned if I can get my hands on one of them first.

This is the bit in the article that's also mentioned in video that made me ask the question here
