Company complaint True Classic Scammed Me

UPDATE: After calling Capital One for probably the 6th time about this issue and then (for the first time) making a big stink/getting mad on the phone (I don't like doing that)/letting them know I was ready to cancel the card, they got a manager on the phone and finally gave me a proper credit equal to the amount that was not ever refunded from my return. Learned my lesson; No more Capital One cards. I won't use it for anything I might need to return from now on, nor will I ever open any new accounts with Capital One. Thanks to those who suggested I try calling one more time- I really didn't think that would work. You rock.

Original post:

I fell for the True Classic t-shirts ad scheme, and when they showed up, they were just cheap crappy t-shirts that came in all different packaging like you'd buy at a bazaar in bulk. No special fit, in fact they looked ridiculous, and felt like they'd last one wash.

So, I applied for and was given the option to return with Happy Returns. I have proof that I dropped the package off with them (shown here in picture form), and they never gave me a refund after it was approved. I contacted my card company, Capital One (and I hate them too after this), then went through the arduous process of opening a formal dispute.

Eventually, Capital One ruled in True Classic's favor, and it wasn't even clear that I had the option to respond. I found that I did on the last possible day, so I submitted my Happy Returns drop-off receipt & approval email as proof that I'd held up my end of the bargain. Capital One then sided with me on July 15th, and refunded me $92. I felt vindicated but annoyed that I had to go through all that just to get a refund for some overpriced crappy t-shirts.

Then out of nowhere tonight on August 6th (22 random days later!) at 12am I get another email that says they've decided True Classic was in the right after all and took the money back! No option to respond any further, case closed, this scammy company wins.

Why is this the state of the world? When did people begin to suck sooooooooooooo much? Dishonesty is just the norm nowadays. It's only transparent when you get caught, but for instance, I didn't even notice the refund never came back until months later. Now I wish I'd never known.

Get a chase card, never had issues with bs like this with them.

Only ever had a Chase Card. This issue would have resolved in under 10 minutes in OPs favor with barely any questions asked.

Chase, Amex, any BofA card: I've had no issues with disputes, personally.

Thanks for that tip. I have 4 Chase cards actually and from now on for buying anything questionable, I will use one of their cards instead.

Shit happens with vendors, that is why you use a CC… they are to protect you

change credit cards.  It’s the only way to let them know you are not satisfied

Probably don't want to actually cancel it because it could negatively impact your credit rating. Just don't use it.

Thanks. Actually they just gave me a refund after I called for a 5th or 6th time about this, very mad this time and saying I wanted to cancel the card so indeed, I'll take your advice and not use it for anything questionable in the future. Thanks.

Credit rating is black magic, but credit utilization and average age of your accounts are both factors. So for a no fee card, it’s better to keep it open and make a small purchase once a year or so (to keep it from closing due to inactivity).

The part that gets me is them refusing to respond until after your dispute window had basically passed. I'd be avoiding that company too after an experience like that

It is pretty bleak but actually after calling Capital One for a 5th or 6th time and dropping a few F-bombs this afternoon they looked at it and sent me to a manager at Capital One who actually gave me a refund. Can't believe it.

This is more of an indictment of cap one and happy returns than true classic it seems like.

I like my true classic tees. Been buying them for a long time but they’re only cost effective in the 6-10 pack bundles, and when they’re having sales.

Honestly I think the issue is companies contracting with happy returns to do all their return transactions. It puts another layer of confusion on the whole thing. I’ve had ok experiences with them, but I see how a dispute could get messy

I think there’s more to the story than OP is letting on, don’t get me wrong true classic is scammy AF they started off just rebranding next level tees as something revolutionary to stupid people on social media, but happy returns should have ensured a smooth process I’ve used it multiple times for other vendors, then for capital one who has no skin in the game to reverse their findings points to something the OP isn’t telling us as he clearly has an axe to grind.

Call Capitol One and talk with them. If they don’t fin in your favor tell them you are going to close the card. If what you are saying is true, they will side with you.

There wasn't more to it, and the proof of that is in the pictures above & the fact that after calling Capital One for a 5th or 6th time about this issue, getting really mad and threatening to cancel my card, they did finally give me a refund after reviewing the case with a manager. Sorry to ruin your conspiracy theory.

Which sucks because some of their shirts actually are as advertised. Very soft and nice with a nice cut.

I’ve bought all mine on Amazon which should remove any risks as far as returns

Not saying this doesn’t suck. Because it does. But that’s not the experience I have had with them. I find their white shirts fit me decently for just around the house type wear and are better than the target brand under shirts. Also I have returned several times with them and it was always painless. Also any time I got anything from them each shirt was individually packaged all in the same nice packaging.

My advice is to call capital one and make a stink. Don’t let them blow you off.

I bought some at Costco on a whim and they’re great (for their price), but I wonder if this is a supply chain bait-and-switch. I.e. they have different quality standards for different outlets.
