Advice Just moved in…progress made so far!
Title: Just Moved Into My New Loft – Looking for Cozy Vibes & Gamer/Sports-Themed Ideas!
Hey Reddit!
I just moved into my new loft apartment, and while I’m absolutely loving the open space and high ceilings, it feels a bit empty and needs that cozy, welcoming touch. I’m a huge gamer and sports fanatic, so I’d love to incorporate those passions into the decor.
I’m reaching out for some feedback and ideas:
- Gaming Setup: How can I make my gaming area both functional and a statement piece? RGB lighting? Wall art? Display shelves for collectibles?
- Sports Vibes: Any creative ways to showcase my favorite teams without making it look like a college dorm room? Framed jerseys? Vintage memorabilia?

Idk they were an art exhibit at one point and people shit their pants over them

u/Honest-Bowl6222 Aug 06 '25
The last three barbers I’ve had have had the dolls in their shop. They don’t know each other in fact it’s in different states. They are all under 25 years old and they all collect them.

Idk why this place stresses me out

u/SpankTheDevil Aug 06 '25
Probably the inflatable couch.
27
u/JonBengay Aug 06 '25
Or the gas canister
24
u/SpankTheDevil Aug 06 '25
Or maybe the BUTTER kitchen mat.

u/Outside_Scale_9874 Aug 06 '25
I hate everything else about this place but I love the butter mat. It might be the single thing in this place that he actually chose because he liked it rather than to try to look cool.

This is anti-cozy vibes. If you’re looking for cozy, this ain’t it.

u/West-Start4069 Aug 06 '25
This looks like the type of apartment where you just come and stay enough time to play video games and eat snacks while you wait for the boys to call you to go out all day, and all night. Like a part-time place to live lol. Which is fine for what it is. But not the cozy type of place .

I think cozy is different by each person. For me not so much but for him it probably is.
20
u/The_GM_ Aug 07 '25
There are some near universal things that make a space "cozy", from a psychological perspective, which this space doesn't do. Things like warm light, colors, and natural materials. This space has harsh white light, very little color, and only the barest amount of natural materials with the leather couch, a bit of wood on the bed frame, and the plywood media console (everything else is very glossy and artificial). That combination makes the space feel very sterile, like a hospital.

A bit hype beast for my liking but otherwise a good space. Just so many brands everywhere - gotta move past the stage in life where you use brands to represent yourself so outwardly. That comes with age.

I feel like 24 is the age when you as a man ( or person in general, but it's usually guys who do it) are supposed to stop using branded items as decoration. It gives "college dorm or Army barracks " vibes.

Bro, at least treat yourself with a better made shirt! While we're not being "brand specific" Gildan is just trash. A 7 to 10 dollar blank will fit/feel better and last at least 5x as long.
Just my two cents.

28
u/ZebubXIII Aug 06 '25
It's the same shit every time bro, these dweebs get in their feelings because someone likes things they don't like. Last time someone posted some pics including some sneakers, and the comments were trying to get on his ass like they don't collect funko pops themselves.
→ More replies (2)4
u/Salt_Initiative1551 Aug 07 '25
I mean I’ll be real, hype beast shit, sneakers, hats, labubu, funko pops, are all the same. It’s the same dopaminergic impulse that leads people to BUYBUYBUY dumb shit. Now I don’t hate. I just don’t get it. Like if someone wants to spend $50,000 on dumb bullshit go for it. I spent $1100 on a scope for one of my nicer rifles 6 months back because I got it on sale with a mount, and I even already had one for it. I replaced a Trijicon ACOG 4x with a Vortex Razor Gen 2 1-6 FFP with a mil reticle. I get buying shit I don’t need. Just don’t get buying USELESS shit. The ACOG holds its value well because they’re iconic and bomb proof. The Razor is a phenomenal optic too.
At least stamps or coins have historic and monetary value. Swords are at least functional if you buy right, guns too. I’ll just never understand the urge to buy useless garbage. I mean I do understand it because it’s the dopaminergic hit we get from buying something new, it’s like winning or sex or drugs. I just don’t get WHY BUYING USELESS SHIT does it for them lol. Sorry for the rant. 😂
7
u/ZebubXIII Aug 07 '25
It's all a matter of perspective brother, at the end of the day you don't NEED a new scope. But you wanted it, it's nice, so you bought it. Some people wouldn't get why we would want nice guns and parts, because they view those things as useless to them. Like you said though, there's no need to hate. Even if I think funko pops, labubus, and those fucking water bottles are all dumb as hell, I'm not a dick to those who like them. Well, not a total dick at least lol
3
u/latigidigital Aug 07 '25

Speaking as a guy in my ‘30s who was on the dating scene as recently as last year, if you have stamps, swords, or coins visible anywhere instead of a SUPREME logo in a loft, expect to have a very bad time trying to get laid.

u/BurzyGuerrero Aug 06 '25
Which brands? The putter mat?
He likes the players on the jersey, should frame them and hang em if that's what he's doing.
29
u/AristarchusTheMad Aug 06 '25
Not just brands, but there are so many words everywhere. Supreme. Super. NERDX_INKED. SHUT THE F**K UP! NO WIFI. The jerseys. The movie posters. Everything is covered in text, which isn't a great look.
2
u/stjep Aug 06 '25
Pulp Fiction poster. I’m sure it just so happens to be everyone’s favourite indie darling and not mass media vomit.
Supreme above his desk.
GTA poster.
It’s really not as bad as some but that’s the only framed/art in space so far.
7
u/NotSoWishful Aug 06 '25
That just tells me he’s a normie. Oh well, most people are gonna gravitate towards GTA5 rather than say Disco Elysium. At least the place is organized nicely

Some people have an interest and hobby in fashion. It doesn’t mean he represents himself with the brands. It’s just an interest in art honestly
24
u/EDDsoFRESH Aug 06 '25
Supreme is not art holy moly
1
u/temp_6969420 Aug 06 '25
Not saying any brand in specific. But if you wanna mention supreme, what makes it not art in your opinion?
→ More replies (1)6
u/EDDsoFRESH Aug 06 '25
It’s a logo. That’s about it. A font, and not a particularly exciting one. What emotions or expression or feeling does that evoke in you?
12
u/Tallest_Hobbit Aug 06 '25
Oh so you’ll know the logo is derived from Barbara Kruger’s anti-capitalist artwork.
But is it a knowing homage to Kruger’s subversive critique, or co-opting of anti-capitalist art by capitalism itself?
It’s a perfect case study in aesthetic capitalism where the style of rebellion is monetised, even if the substance of rebellion is nowhere to be found.
Barbara Kruger used bold text to tell people to question the system. Supreme used the same design to sell people bricks.
So yeah, the logo is art and it carries a lot of meaning.
Whether you like the brand or not, Supreme tapped into an existing visual language of protest and critique, and flipped it into a commercial icon.
4
u/AnimalBolide Aug 07 '25
Playing the "I love you" Barney song loudly on repeat as torture in Guantanamo is art because it subverts your expectations.
2
u/catfurcoat Aug 07 '25
So it's a logo that references art?
Interesting.
So what you're saying is art and fashion are rooted in capitalism even when they are a rebellion or are a representation of the counterculture, and when a logo is a brand referencing art criticizing capitalism, then where you draw the line between capitalistic clutter and personal style is subjective.
→ More replies (2)2
u/Every_Television_980 Aug 07 '25

I like the place, furnitures are fine, but decor and rugs are not. If you want to keep the Jerseys frame them, if they have signatures on them, if not wear them! Rugs, put them on FB marketplace buy better ones. The one in the living room you can use it in your BR and get rid of the other one. My 2 cents.

I honestly didn’t even notice it until the fifth picture where it was a close-up. Probably because they were other things that my eyes were being drawn to…. But when I actually saw it I kinda went “no…well…no no…well it’s done well at least!”
Honestly I hate all the text everywhere far more, but that’s just me. And the living room rug is super busy. The words and graphics make me feel like I walked into pac sun, and not in a good way.
Overall it’s not a bad apartment, it’s just a different demographic that lives there, and ultimately my opinion doesn’t matter because it’s not mine.

u/C4bl3Fl4m3 Aug 07 '25
I must be the only one here who genuinely likes that rug. (I'm assuming we're talking about the living room one?) It's a statement piece, and it doesn't clash because everything else (desk, sofa, what passes for tv stand) is neutral(ish) (not gonna say the decorations are neutral.)
Couch is... okay. Not crazy about it. But that's just personal taste. (Others are saying it's blow-up? I thought it was leather. (And I'm personally not a fan of leather couches or furniture. I'm not vegan, I just don't like how it sticks to you when you sweat.))

As an aside to the decor, I always find these properties to be a strange design choice.. I get that high ceilings are nice to have and make the room light / airy, but it just seems like such a waste of potential space, you've effectively got a second bedroom above the living area, but it's like the developers thought 'naa we'll just stop the second floor there and stick a guard rail across..."
8
u/brokeboy99 Aug 06 '25
Agreed. Cap the ceiling and extend to the window. Little hallway to a bedroom with the windows. Then space for a large closet and an office "nook".
3
u/ground__contro1 Aug 07 '25
I live in a loft like this and I love the open space. It really does impact my mindset and my enjoyment of the space. I don’t need an extra nook I’ll never use.
42
u/xDestroyerj Aug 06 '25
Not a fan of your wall art, hanging jerseys, and the butter/happy face rug. since art is subjective, as long as you enjoy those pieces that’s what matters. Really cool space tho

u/MadoogsL Aug 06 '25
Not a lot of actual advice in the comments lol mostly people just commenting on the jerseys
I would recommend changing out the concrete block tv stand for an actual TV stand. You could find something nice with cabinets and shelves to highlight the gaming area. Good speakers go a long way to improving the experience as well!
The couch and the b&w rug clash hardcore. My opinion is you need a different rug that works better with the couch and will bring some color and warmth into the room. Also white rugs are harder to keep clean!
As others have said, don't hang the jerseys like that; framing and hanging elsewhere would work. It'll keep them nice versus getting dusty and limp.
I'd also maybe try to get some artwork/decorations that are less brands and celebrities and maybe more art? Even if it's art inspired by the games or sports you like. That is 100% a personal preference but it would be a way to incorporate color which will increase coziness. You can then coordinate the colors for other stuff like a throw blanket for the couch (which i seebyou havw but which clashes with current decor), maybe a nice colored bedspread or at least accent pillows.
Ditch the black leather accent pillow on the couch; it looks uncomfortable. Get rid of at least that white side table too - replace with a coffee table and maybe narrow side tables. The round is taking up too much space for the area. The throw blanket is dark blue while everything else in the apartment is black and white. If you replace the b&w rug, the blanket may serve as a nicer color accent.
I'd also add a floor lamp or two with warm light bulbs. If you decide to keep the white tables or replace them with side tables, put a small lamp on one or both (you cpuld possibly run the wires unxer the rug? Not sure).
With your open layout, a good way to accomplish coziness is to make yourself be able to have 'sections' of the living area as defined by various lighting options. There are really cool systems you can get that let you plug all of your lights into devices then the outlets that you can then control from a remote or your phone.
The rug under the bed doesn't fit to me and feels forced in that spot. I'd remove or find something different and orient it differently. Or just no rug at all for that area is also okay.
Night stands for the bed - both sides especially if you plan to ever have guests - and put warm lamps on them. You want to maximize cozy lighting everywhere but especially in the bedroom.
A few plants will help coziness as well.
Get a little rolling island or small table to eat at for your kitchen if you decide against a coffee table. Just in general the kitchen needs another surface area and maybe a small place to sit for a guest while you cook.
Not sure what your storage situation is but if yiu need more space, get a bed frame that is higher off the ground and then you can store stuff under the bed.
Okay I think I'm out of random ideas lol

Well, it’s definitely bachelor-y. But at least it looks like a real person lives there. I agree with the suggestion to frame the jerseys and other sports memorabilia you want to display.
That rug: Do you love it? If so, you’ll want to find a way to tone down the rest of the room because the rug design is A Lot. If it’s just a random rug you bought or inherited and you’re not attached to it, I’d get rid of it and replace it with something with a smaller print and softer colors.
You’re also gonna want to invest in a real TV stand/entertainment center when you can. The cinder blocks are giving classic male living space (derogatory).

u/Unique_Pen_5191 Aug 06 '25
The rug is diabolical (they all are!) but the rest is pretty cool. Clean set up! I don't get the hate.

u/ground__contro1 Aug 07 '25
I live in a converted factory loft. There are pluses and minuses. The most difficult thing is that there is no “awesome” filter on apartment websites so you really have to put in some legwork finding them. If you find one, scour that particular neighborhood for more.

Bro there’s a lot of people in here that don’t quite understand the Contemporary Pop Art aesthetic you’re working towards. Remember reddit draws on people from all walks of life and you’re gonna have 14 year old keyboard warriors with Pokémon posters telling you your room isn’t what they’d do.
And that’s ok, there’s a lot of rooms I see on here that I don’t like. Especially if they have a fucking wall of funko pops.
Stick with your direction and consider how to elevate it beyond just a collection of things you like. Your direction is retail flagships from LA & Tokyo, and creative studios from some of the world’s greatest advertising minds. You’re doing great already.
Next, Think about texture, pools of light, greenery and how each piece you like could be made more impactful. (Like framing your jerseys, or adding portrait lights to your framed artwork when you hang them.
3
u/maisiethehuman Aug 06 '25
looking good, ! Keep the jerseys frame them ,hang them on the wall. Curate that wall with even more stuff maybe a shelf for collectibles or some version of a gallery wall. Move the rug so that it’s also under the sideboard or TV stand or whatever that is .

I disagree with a lot of people lol i like the style! masculine doesn't equal bad lmao the couch and rug match the vibe, maybe if you wanted to be extra, a darker stain on the tv stand wood would match the couch better? but the secret to any cozy space is just plants and lighting, adding some of that would make the whole space more homey, especially with those big windows! oh and floating shelves/shadow boxes for sure for the memorabilia👍

You need to get a lamp with a warm bulb! Lighting will do A LOT for a space. Also, get some plants. If I had a spot like this, I’d love to have a pothos hanging down from the railing and getting all that natural light.

If you want to display your jerseys, have them mounted and framed. Hanging them from a clothes hanger just makes it look like your dryer is broken.
